n48:abstract
(VOY: ) The Ankari were a spacefaring humanoid civilization in the Delta Quadrant. They had access to warp technology, but used a form of propulsion that was difficult for sensors to detect. They harbored a great respect for what they termed "spirits of good fortune", nucleogenic lifeforms from another realm, which they could summon using a summoning beacon. The crew of the stranded USS Equinox discovered their homeworld sometime before 2376, where they were provided with supplies and food. They also summoned the lifeforms in their sacred ritual to bless the Equinox's journey. The Equinox crew members were able to barter for one of the devices to summon the lifeforms themselves. In 2376, the USS Voyager sought out the Ankari for help in negotiating with the lifeforms, who were attacking them as a result of the Equinox crew's actions. (VOY: "Equinox", "Equinox, Part II") At least one member of the Ankari species was seen in the audience of several Tsunkatse matches. (VOY: "Tsunkatse") According to the short story Brief Candle, the Ankari were known to the Borg as Species 7690.
