Supreme Commander Supreme Commander
rdfs:comment
Successful game designer Chris Taylor went on to make another RTS game called Supreme Commander, which is widely considered to be the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation. For more information, see the Supreme Commander Wiki. The title of Supreme Commander has traditionally always designated the Galactic Imperium Officer executively in charge of all of the Navy and Army. In the Galactic Imperium, the one who held this rank was also second in command of the Imperium. This role was assumed by Patton during the first decade and a half of the Imperium's years. When Emperor Ramsay died at the end of the Shrike War, Patton took charge of the Imperium but kept the title of Supreme Commander. From then on, the Supreme Commander officially became the rank of the leader of the Galactic Imperium. Supreme Commander is a real-time strategy video game that has been hailed as the Spiritual Successor to Total Annihilation, which is not surprising as they are both designed by Chris Taylor. Set in The Future, man has used quantum tunnels or portals that are opened from the fabric of space leading to a designated location that can be light-years away. Earth is unified into the Earth Empire and man starts to explore and colonize the stars with the development of this technology. Then it all goes sour. It was followed in 2010 by Supreme Commander 2. Supreme Commander (SupCom) is a large scale RTS that plays out titanic battles on land, sea and air. Its fought between generic forces, each commanded by a giant, singular robot commander that represents you on the battlefield. Your commander or Armoured Command Unit (ACU) is the seed that grows into an impressive military machine that covers nearly every niche of land, sea, air and strategic weaponry. Tanks, bots, planes, ships, subs, turrets, shields, nukes, and Godzillan superweapons - they're all there. Battles between opponents can easily take about an hour, and can easily involve hundreds, if not thousands of units, depending on how many players are involved. This is an appointment of command, not a rank. Supreme Commander is a rank given to the leader of the Visitor's Earth and possibly more forces in the original series. The title was originally held by John, but has been held by Charles, Diana, Lydia,Pamela, and Philip in the Second Invasion. The rank Supreme Commander is one of the highest ranks used by the Covenant Navy. The rank is only known to be issued to the Sangheili. They command large fleets and armadas. Despite the high status of the title, a Supreme Commander is likely lower in rank than an Imperial Admiral. For most of the Covenant's history, this rank was held by the Sangheili race until the Great Schism, when the Jiralhanae assumed most of the Covenant's higher ranks. The Supreme Commander is the former antagonist in The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars. He is voiced by Alan King, while Jim Cummings did his singing voice. The Supreme Commander was the ultimate leader of the Galactic Alliance Military Forces. The Supreme Commander is the overall commander of the Galactic Republic Military. Since the Supreme Chancellor has the power to appoint military titles such as honorary "Republic General", it is surmised that the Supreme Commander is appointed by the Supreme Chancellor. The Supreme Commander is the main antagonist in The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars. Supreme Commander was a high rank borne by military and paramilitary officers in the service of most of the major Galactic powers of the Imperial and post-Imperial eras. As most major states and powers at this time are known to have used at least one version of this rank, full information is divided between several pages: * Sith Empire of Dol Glorath * New Republic * Jeeno Empire The Supreme Commander is actually the Hearing Aid's long-lost twin brother in a smaller icebox within a giant icebox, which is his suit. His "disguise" is bigger than all the other appliances, and the Supreme Commander uses it to rule Mars, which he once moved to. He is only Supreme Commander due to electing himself as such and being inside a giant refrigerator that is his assistant. A rank in the Federation military, held by Servalan, before becoming President - it is not indicated whether she held both roles simultaneously. In episode Gambit Krantor makes play on calling Servalan 'Commander.' During Generation One, the Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan?) was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them. The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction. The title of Supreme Commander was the highest rank accorded in the military of the Black Star Confederacy After the Confederate Civil War, military authority was concentrated in a new post of Supreme Commander. Officially, this post replaced the Minister of Defense, but with the office filled by the High Admiral of the Navy, and no civilian ministries to get in the way, it represented in practice a concentration of military authority in Fleet Command. The Chancellor of the Klingon Empire also bore the title of Klingon Supreme Commander. When Chancellor K'mpec requested that Jean-Luc Picard mediate the contenders for his replacement as Chancellor, and Picard respectfully declined, K'mpec told him that such a refusal to the dying request of the Klingon Supreme Commander would be an insult by the Federation to all Klingons. (TNG: "Reunion" ) Supreme Commander was also the title given to Quark by Nog when they were being interrogated by Earth United States Army Air Forces Captain Wainwright in 1948. (DS9: "Little Green Men") Supreme Commander was a title bestowed upon Vorian Atreides for the supreme command of the Army of the Jihad, sometime after the death of Iblis Ginjo. Since the title is not mentioned, before, it is possible the title was invented especially for him, due to his great longevity and experience on the War. While bearing this rank, Vor initiated The Great Purge which finally trapped the Thinking Machines on one world, Corrin. Eventually the title was reformed as Supreme Bashar. It is unknown if anyone succeeded him. The Supreme Commander is responsible for managing all of the lower commanders, such as Commander Veldaban and Captain Lawgof. As the Black Guard's leader, he is also responsible for making many of the army's larger decisions, mainly concerning the management of funds. The title of Supreme Commander is the highest rank accorded in the New Republic Military. The New Republic Military currently consists of three major branches, those being FleetOps, GroundOps, StarOps. However, a liason-type of Council position was required as part of the Ministry of Defense, so that general commands from the Chief of State (who acted as Commander-in-Chief) could be effectively distributed to the three military branch commanders. It is the Supreme Commander's responsibility to ensure that the Commander-in-Chief's primary objectives are actualized through the New Republic Military. On Cybertron, the Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan) was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them. The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction. The Supreme Commander is chief lieutant of the Galactic Emperor, and chief officer and commander of all Imperial Forces. Darth Vader, current Supreme Commander, also holds the position of Dark Lord of the Sith. The positional rank of Supreme Commander refers to the military officer who commands all the military forces of a nation or alliance. Similar to the position of Commander-in-Chief, the leader of all armed services of a nation. However, this was often referred to a civilian head of state or government, such as the President of the United States. Note: This article is about the video game: Supreme Commander. If you were looking for information on the Commanders found within the game, check out the Armored Command Unit Page. Supreme Commander is a real-time strategy RTS game designed by Chris Taylor, set in a far future world. Although it was designed by Chris Taylor, it is not a sequel to his previous RTS, Total Annihilation, but rather a "spiritual successor", which implements the same gameplay mechanics and physics logic which was pioneered in Total Annihilation. Supreme Commander is a title which was used within the Vedran Empire and its later descendant, the Systems Commonwealth. The title was given to the commander of the entire High Guard and all of the forces involved with it, and is known to have been given during pre-Commonwealth times; however, no definitive use of it has been found during or after the Vedran Empire's evolution into the Commonwealth. It is notable that the known holders of the title were married to an Empress. This, in most European forms of aristocracy, would probably make them some manner of Prince Consort. The Supreme Commander originally was the second-in-command in the hierarchy of the Global Community that reported directly to Nicolae Carpathia. This role was filled by Leon Fortunato from the time of his resurrection until Carpathia's death, where he temporarily assumed the role of Potentate until Carpathia was resurrected. With Leon later given the role and position of High Reverend Father of Carpathianism, the Supreme Commander role was reduced in position and given to Jim Hickman and then to Walter Moon before it was completely dissolved. The Supreme Commander is responsible for managing all of the lower commanders, such as Commander Veldaban and Captain Lawgof. As the Black Guard's leader, he is also responsible for making many of the army's larger decisions, mainly concerning the management of funds. Bisi is currently stationed in Keldagrim, hidden in the Black Guard headquarter's upper level. Guarded by several Black Guard Berserkers, he is often overlooked by visitors. The Supreme Commander is the commander of the Galactic Weeiner Dog Empire. The Supreme Commander is responsible for managing all of the lower commanders, such as Commander Veldaban and Captain Lawgof. As the Black Guard's leader, he is also responsible for making many of the army's larger decisions, mainly concerning the management of funds. He is stationed in Keldagrim, hidden in the Black Guard headquarter's upper level. Guarded by several Black Guard Berserkers, he is often overlooked by visitors. Upon completion of The Giant Dwarf, he also begins to investigate The Red Axe. Supreme Commander is a military rank among the Asgard. Thor is titled Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet, acknowledging his position as the Asgard's commander-in-chief. (SG1: "Thor's Hammer", "Thor's Chariot") The Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al later styled himself Supreme Commander of the Goa'uld Empire, essentially taking over the functions that Ra held as Supreme System Lord (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1") The title of Supreme Commander is the highest position available in the New Republic Military. The Supreme Commander acts as the CoS's military deputy and advisor, acting in the CoS's stead when needed or desired. The Supreme Commander also serves in a similar role in the Ministry of Defense. Ostensibly, the Supreme Commander is responsible for advising the civilian authorities overseeing the military in their decisions, and then seeing that those decisions are put into practice properly. The title of Supreme Commander is appointed to a military officer by the Ministry, subject to the Chief of State's approval.

During Generation One, the Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan?) was the absolute leader of the Autobots and, at first, sole bearer of the Matrix of Leadership. Later, Autobots were appointed the rank of Supreme Commander without having the Matrix passed down to them. The Supreme Commander rank can be considered the Autobot version of the Decepticon rank of Emperor of Destruction. By the era of the Beast Wars, the rank of Supreme Commander was appointed to high-ranking Maximal generals, usually of Convoy status. The task of ruling over the Maximal race as a whole was the job of the Maximal Elders. For most of the Covenant's history, this rank was held by the Sangheili race until the Great Schism, when the Jiralhanae assumed most of the Covenant's higher ranks. This is an appointment of command, not a rank. Upon completion of The Giant Dwarf, he also begins to investigate The Red Axe, but he loses Commander Veldaban after a particularly tense disagreement over how to contend with the Red Axe. He subsequently appoints a successor. The Supreme Commander is the main antagonist in The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars. Supreme Commander was a high rank borne by military and paramilitary officers in the service of most of the major Galactic powers of the Imperial and post-Imperial eras. As most major states and powers at this time are known to have used at least one version of this rank, full information is divided between several pages: * Sith Empire of Dol Glorath * New Republic * Jeeno Empire Supreme Commander is a military rank among the Asgard. Thor is titled Supreme Commander of the Asgard Fleet, acknowledging his position as the Asgard's commander-in-chief. (SG1: "Thor's Hammer", "Thor's Chariot") The Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al later styled himself Supreme Commander of the Goa'uld Empire, essentially taking over the functions that Ra held as Supreme System Lord (SG1: "Reckoning, Part 1") The Supreme Commander is chief lieutant of the Galactic Emperor, and chief officer and commander of all Imperial Forces. Darth Vader, current Supreme Commander, also holds the position of Dark Lord of the Sith. The positional rank of Supreme Commander refers to the military officer who commands all the military forces of a nation or alliance. Similar to the position of Commander-in-Chief, the leader of all armed services of a nation. However, this was often referred to a civilian head of state or government, such as the President of the United States. During the Great World War II, the Allied Forces choose Gunther von Esling as their Supreme Commander to lead their combined armies. By the start of the conflict, civilian governments were unable to coordinate efficiently or were otherwise defunct. As the only effective authority, Esling created a modified junta to govern the Allies. following the war, Esling returned governmental control to their member governments. With the formation of the Global Defense Initiative, the position of Supreme Commander was again the head of all GDI military forces. In the 1990s, the Supreme Commander was subordinate to the UN Security Council. In the mid-21st century, the Supreme Commander was subordinate to the Director-General. Finally toward the TCN conflicts, the Supreme Commander was subordinate to the General Secretary. Within the Brotherhood of Nod, Kane serves as Supreme Commander and Head of State. During the Great World War II and the World War III, the supreme commander of the Soviet Red Army would be Generalissimus of the Soviet Union, a rank which only the Premier of the Soviet Union could receive. The Empire of the Rising Sun had the word Supreme Commander to become the Supreme Shogun, a rank which is a memory from the old feudal Japan, there the highest shogun ruled before the emperor took the power in the 1880s. The supreme shogun was subordinate only to the crown prince and the emperor of the empire. There is little information, if none, on The Forgotten's rank system and as so, is unknown if they possess a Supreme Commander or not. A rank in the Federation military, held by Servalan, before becoming President - it is not indicated whether she held both roles simultaneously. In episode Gambit Krantor makes play on calling Servalan 'Commander.' The title of Supreme Commander was the highest rank accorded in the military of the Black Star Confederacy After the Confederate Civil War, military authority was concentrated in a new post of Supreme Commander. Officially, this post replaced the Minister of Defense, but with the office filled by the High Admiral of the Navy, and no civilian ministries to get in the way, it represented in practice a concentration of military authority in Fleet Command. Constitutionally, the Supreme Commander was appointed by the President. The Senate confirmed the appointment, and could also recall the Supreme Commander by a Vote of No Confidence. In practice, the Supreme Commander was the most senior serving Admiral answerable to the government he served. The title of Supreme Commander is the highest position available in the New Republic Military. The Supreme Commander is the overall commander of the Galactic Republic Military. Since the Supreme Chancellor has the power to appoint military titles such as honorary "Republic General", it is surmised that the Supreme Commander is appointed by the Supreme Chancellor. The first nail in the coffin of this golden age is the Cybrans, humans enhanced with cybernetic implants-the chief one being having their brain merged with an advanced AI computer in a process patented by Dr. Gustav Brackman. Unfortunately, the Earth Empire treats the Cybrans more like slaves then real people which is something the Cybrans and their father figure Brackman don't particularly like. So Brackman and a group of followers rebel, set up their own country - the Cybran Nation - and start waging a guerrilla war to liberate their fellow Cybrans. The next and probably biggest nail in the coffin of the Earth Empire is the formation of the Aeon Illuminate, that got founded when human colonists on one planet ran into alien intelligent life, the Seraphim. See, the Seraphim had a peaceful and advanced society, complete with a quasi-Buddhist philosophy they called The Way which they shared with the human colonists. Unfortunately, the local Imperial military commander overreacted, and caused the genocide of the Seraphim with a bioweapon. The Seraphim's human cohorts didn't like that too much, formed the Aeon Illuminate and pretty much told the rest of the galaxy to join or die. Then, the Earth Empire collapses and is reformed into the United Earth Federation. And then you have a thousand year long three sided war being waged by these factions. These are the events leading up to the first game. Then the expansion pack, Forged Alliance, comes out and we find out the Seraphim are actually Not Quite Dead. The colony that was destroyed was only a very small fraction of the entire Seraphim race. Naturally, they are pissed at what happened to their colony and proceed to attack humanity. This causes the Aeon Illuminate to break in two with one faction siding with the Seraphim and the other forming an alliance with the other two human factions to stop the Seraphim in their tracks. It was followed in 2010 by Supreme Commander 2. The Supreme Commander is the commander of the Galactic Weeiner Dog Empire. Supreme Commander was a title bestowed upon Vorian Atreides for the supreme command of the Army of the Jihad, sometime after the death of Iblis Ginjo. Supreme Commander is a rank given to the leader of the Visitor's Earth and possibly more forces in the original series. The title was originally held by John, but has been held by Charles, Diana, Lydia,Pamela, and Philip in the Second Invasion. There are two games and one expansion in the series so far. RTSC will fixate primarily on the standalone expansion, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, and treat that as the "definitive" version of the game. The sequel, Supreme Commander 2, while snappier looking, is far smaller in scope and more accessible to a wider gaming audience. In other words, SupCom2 got dumbed down, lost most of its epic flavour and grandeur, losing a lot of old SupCom and Total Annihilation players in the process. The first Supreme Commander was the long awaited "spiritual successor" to Total Annihilation, and came arguably close to being a perfect game sequel. Starting off from where Total Annihilation left off, Supreme Commmander pushed the basic premise further, updated the graphics, sound, units, and networking and presented the player with an almost infinitely configurable GUI that never seems to get in the way. The game can be serviced and maintained using Gas Power Games' GPG.net service. GPG.net applies patches, provides an online gaming environment, multiplayer replays and a ranking system. It's more than just an echo of the old Total Annihilation's Boneyards multiplayer service. Its quite obvious that the developers have not only reprised TA in all its glory, but they paid close attention to the extraordinary output of the fans over the years as well. Supreme Commander appears to be the distillation of every custom mod, unit pack, and home grown add-on built by the TA modding community over the last decade, with all the repetition and dead wood stripped out. What you get is a very polished - if not demanding game - for your PC that has at least five years of life built into it. You'll need a solid PC to get the most out of it, though. There's been a big trend in the last decade towards the hands on, micromanaging "twitch" style of the WarCraft RTS, or the more recent "Defence of the Ancients" game style where players focus entirely on a Hero and their character progression in a small team game. The whole game centres around these heroes, and a lot of the complexity comes about from insider knowledge of how each Hero plays differently to the rest. Starcraft, Warcraft and the DotA's of this world restrict your access to the game's GUI, limiting your perspective, imposing limits on the number of units you can control and relying on a lot of high speed, stimulus-response "gamer athletics" to prevail. Winners show off considerable mouse and keyboard skills and timing to pull off a win - whilst at the same time demonstrating some big picture strategising, usually at high speed. This combination of fine control and big picture strategy is why Starcraft deserves its legendary status in the gaming world, and why South Koreans have all but turned it into a national sport. However, Supreme Commander's a different kind of beast. Its more austere, less intimate, and more about crowd control. There aren't any charismatic units; your forces are made up of disposable and anonymous drones, built and lost in swarms. The only intricate magic spells you'll find here are On/Off switches. You can upgrade Mass Mines and factories, and there are some seriously expensive upgrades on your commander. But essentially all units are completely without upgrades or improvements. The small tank you build at the start of a six hour marathon game will still be exactly the same small tank at the end of it. Some games give you one tank with three magic upgrades: SupCom gives you three different tanks - small, medium and big, each produced from a small, medium and big factory respectively. The Supreme Commander is actually the Hearing Aid's long-lost twin brother in a smaller icebox within a giant icebox, which is his suit. His "disguise" is bigger than all the other appliances, and the Supreme Commander uses it to rule Mars, which he once moved to. He is only Supreme Commander due to electing himself as such and being inside a giant refrigerator that is his assistant. He (secretly) despises human beings due to their abusive nature. He also states that the Wonder Luxe Appliances (his henchmen) were built just to fall apart, making them obsolete. However, a gentle touch from Robbie (the Little Master), causes him to turn inexplicably pink and smile at the child, as it made him remember something about humans in which they are not all bad, but then reverts to his original color and pushes Robbie aside. However, he secretly reforms after the election between him and Toaster for Supreme Commander, and reveals himself to be the Hearing Aid's long-lost twin brother. After being reunited with the Hearing Aid, the ex Supreme Commander travels back to Earth with Tinselina, Toaster and his companions, but not before deactivating the Missile which was set to destroy Earth when he was in charge. He is also responsible for maintaining discipline and standards within the Black Guard. When Commander Veldaban refused to apprehend a thief and went off drinking with her instead, he reprimanded the commander, reminding him that he was supposed to be focusing on crimes in West Keldagrim, as nobody cared about what happened in the East. Upon completion of The Giant Dwarf, he also begins to investigate The Red Axe, but he loses Commander Veldaban after a particularly tense disagreement over how to contend with the Red Axe. He subsequently appoints a successor. (TNG: "Reunion" ) The title was utilized in the Federation Alliance during the Dominion War. On Benjamin Sisko's recommendation, Martok was made Supreme Commander of the Ninth Fleet in 2374, following Operation Return. Martok resented the position because of all the paperwork and bureaucracy involved in commanding an entire fleet. (DS9: "You Are Cordially Invited") Supreme Commander was also the title given to Quark by Nog when they were being interrogated by Earth United States Army Air Forces Captain Wainwright in 1948. (DS9: "Little Green Men") Dwight D. Eisenhower was Supreme Commander of Allied forces in Europe during World War II. The Supreme Commander is the former antagonist in The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars. He is voiced by Alan King, while Jim Cummings did his singing voice. Since the release of Forged Alliance, it has been referred to as Vanilla SupCom, the Old SupCom or Classic SupCom. Successful game designer Chris Taylor went on to make another RTS game called Supreme Commander, which is widely considered to be the spiritual successor to Total Annihilation.
