"It's been three years since the events of Empty Night. The operatives active on that fateful day had since been reassigned to various tasks. Agents Salisbury, Jane, Cormac and Taylor were recalled to Antwerp for a week for a quick assignment. The Orpheus Corporation, a semi-autonomous front for the Void Engineer's NSC, announced an important presentation to occur tomorrow. Initial information is that they reached a breakthrough in cryostasis. However, some side effects are troubling for the NSC as a whole; while so frozen, there are reports that patients temporarily become something akin to post-life extra-dimensional entities. Luckily, agent Quicksilver and asset Colin, plus other agents, are in place to monitor. First, however, our agents have to deal with a problem in a local church. It appears there is a lot of entropic activity near that church. An initial scouting doesn't show any major points of interest, so it was decided to head there the following day, a sunday, to attend mass. Once there, it quickly became apparent that something was amiss - the preacher appeared ill, and under the influence of a post-life EDE. Furthermore, while the crowd seems moved by the preacher, detailed observation revealed that they appear more addicted to his words than anything else. Once it becomes clear that the mass is a front for some ritual, our agents decide to quickly end the proceedings. To preserve cover, a call is made to the local police force - who were put on alert earlier - and the priest is quickly arrested. Not, however, before he throws a suspicious substance at one of the officers, which seems to resonate with entropic energy. The officer in question is sequestered for analysis and treatment, while our operatives make a clean getaway. Later, it's time to attend the meeting at the Orpheus Corporation. Our operatives are listed as investors, and appear as such. Once good and well inside the meeting hall, however, we notice a familiar face - one of the associates of Merces. While most of the team was stunned, unsure of what to do, agent Salisbury sprang to action, activating his combat suit and engaging. Noticing Salisbury, the man smiled, took out a detonator, and activated it. The building immediately erupting in noise, all the team could do was evacuate - Salisbury by suit, and Taylor using a Blatant Procedure to recall to Antwerp Construct via Quantum Teleportation. Ally Colin sacrificed himself to safe others and in the process was cured of his deviancy. Once safely back at the tower, however, the full scope of what they were facing became clear. The mysterious man didn't just detonate the local building, he - simultaneously, appearing at once all over the world - destroyed all of Orpheus' locations, taking with it a good chunk of NSC's operations as well. Faced with an immediate crisis, the team were reassigned back to Antwerp indefinitely, as they prepared to salvage what resources they could."@en . "Masculin"@fr . A corporation called the Orpheus Group has learned and perfected the art of projection, allowing people who have undergone near-death experiences to leave their bodies and enter the spirit realm. The company uses these employees, along with allied ghosts, as agents, and contracts them out to clients for investigations into hauntings, fumigating raging spirits, and other spooky tasks. Orpheus is unique among the Classic World of Darkness lines, as from the beginning it was planned as part of a limited run, a practice that set the basis for newer Chronicles of Darkness games such as Promethean: The Created and Changeling: The Lost. Only six gaming books (one core book and five supplements), plus a fictional anthology, Orpheus: Haunting the Dead , were released. The Orpheus story is specific, and completely told through the six books, via role-playing scenarios, fiction, and a set of signature characters. While Orpheus does tie in loosely with White Wolf\u2019s previous effort at the afterlife, Wraith: The Oblivion, it is not treated as a true sequel or continuation, although players of Wraith will certainly find parts of Orpheus familiar, especially towards the end. Orpheus is also unique in that other supernatural characters, such as vampires and werewolves, have no real place in the game. The Core book states that if, in your game you want them to exist, you can, but the Orpheus characters would be heavily outmatched as they are essentially plain, run-of-the-mill humans. The book also notes that the Werewolves and Vampires have done a good enough job of hiding from the Mortal world, and Orpheus, at the moment, does not know about them either."@en . "Orpheus, the bard of Greek myth, is here revealed as the son of Oneiros and the muse Calliope. On the day of his wedding to Eurydice, his bride tragically dies from a snakebite. Overcome with grief, Orpheus petitions Oneiros' help to revive Eurydice, but ends up disavowing his father when he is unwilling to help. His uncle Olethros and aunt Teleute prove a bit more cooperative, and send Orpheus to plead his case before Hades, the ruler of the Greek underworld. He succeeds in convincing Hades to return Eurydice under the condition that he not look back. However, out of doubt that Hades kept his word, Orpheus looks over his shoulder and Eurydice is taken back into the Underworld. Orpheus is later torn apart by the Bacchante, the mad worshipers of Dionysus and only his head survives. He is condemned to eternal life as a severed head. In 1789, Lady Johanna Constantine makes a deal with Dream, and in June 1794 she is tasked with retrieving his son's head. Dream tells her that she is contracted to do this because he can't take part in the action directly. Johanna finds its to be a difficult task, but she finally accomplishes it. After that Orpheus is taken to a remote island by the name of Naxos, and Dream creates an order of priests who are charged to take care of Orpheus. The order of priests protects Orpheus until the events of \"Brief Lives\", in which Dream meets his son for the first time in centuries. He is reluctant, but his son is the only oracle that can tell him where to find Destruction. Orpheus tells Dream Destruction's location, but in return he asks that Dream kill him. \" At the end of Brief Lives, Dream finally ends his son's life.
