In 2155, Commander Jonathan Archer stated that the Empire had existed for "centuries" (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly") and thus the Empire can be traced back to at least 1955, suggesting that it existed on Earth, perhaps as a political party or movement before it became an interstellar empire. One of the Empire's early outer space conquests was a landing on Earth's moon, Luna, where it planted its flag. (ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly", "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II" opening credits sequence) The Terran Empire are a corrupt version of the Federation from the Star Trek series, centred around the alternate-reality known as the Mirror Universe. They have similiarities to extremist dictatorships such as Nazi Germany or Communist Russia, but they are also in some ways similiar to Ancient Rome or Fascist Italy in the fact they will allow other species into their Empire but only if they comply to its rigid rules and imperial will, while those who resist are either destroyed or annexed via force. The Terran Empire is a the mirror universe equivalent to the United Federation of Planets. It is much more militaristic and positions are gained by successfully assassination of one's superiors. The Terran Empire fell in 2367 when the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance swept through Wolf 359 and razed Earth. The Terran Empire existed for several centuries. The Terran Empire was the dominant Empire in the Galaxy during the First Age The Terran Empire (Terran Imperium or Terran Sovereignty or Neo-/New Terran Empire) was the repressive (for most non-Terrans), totalitarian, and militaristic interstellar power of the Mirror universe. It dominated 85% of Federation territory by the 24th century, and more than the prime universe in the 25th century due to a socioeconomic boom. If the opening credits of the two Enterprise mirror universe episodes are any indication, the time of the Empire's formation can be pushed farther back than the above-mentioned 1955. A scene cut from ENT: "In a Mirror, Darkly" had Archer invoking the blessings of "the gods", hinting that the Empire may be a continuation of or successor to the Roman Empire. Marlena Moreau mentioning Kirk becoming a "Caesar" would add support to this notion, as may the fact that "Terra" is the Latin word for "Earth". The salute used by officers (closing the fist over the heart and then extending the arm in front, saying, "Long live the Empire") is also reminiscent of the Roman soldiers' and gladiators' salute to Caesar. Indirect support for the idea that the Empire had a relatively "ancient" origin may be found in a statement made by the mirror Phlox in "In a Mirror, Darkly, Part II". In that episode, he revealed that, although he had found significant differences between the great historical works of literature in the mirror universe and those of the prime universe, he had discovered an exception in Shakespeare, Phlox expressing that the works of Shakespeare were "equally grim in both universes."
