Airspeeders were really fast—whoops, there it went. But seriously, folks, airspeeders were flying cars that could zoom around within a planetary atmosphere, but couldn't leave the planet like starships. They were kind of like landspeeders, but with fewer traffic jams... and a much lower survival rate when it came to crashes. Airspeeders were repulsorlift vehicles. They were distinguished from landspeeders by a higher operating altitude and normally higher top speed. Sometimes, they were also equipped with boosters. They were not designed for orbital flight, but could attain high altitudes. Airspeeders were used for transportation, recreation and combat. Coruscant's skies were clogged with airspeeders, which made their way about the planet-wide city via invisible expressways. Airspeeders, also called air speeders or simply speeders, were repulsorlift vehicles common throughout the galaxy. On extremely urban planets such as Coruscant, airspeeders were controlled by skylanes to allow them to maneuver between the dense streams of traffic and skyscrapers.

On Coruscant, airspeeders were everywhere. Oy, vey, you could literally hop from one skyscraper to another just by jumping on airspeeders, like a bizarre game of Frogger. On Bespin, they used cloud cars, ugly orange airspeeders (Lando Calrissian later ordered them to be painted purple and gold and covered in spangles and rhinestones).
