In 1967, he was one of the directors approached to helm Jim Henson's TV movie concept Moki, about an androgynous man mistaken for a woman. Morris's response to Bernie Brillstein was a polite refusal: "This guy Henson's obviously got a nutty visual mind, [but] this story scares the bejesus out of me. It's not exactly dirty—it just ain't quite clean... the guy is very talented and it's a funny idea, but I guess I'm just old fashioned." __NOEDITSECTION__ Image:Information-silk.png|Character Template rect 0 0 20 20 Staff Template desc none Howard Morris Real Name Unknown Job Titles Voice Actor First publication Unknown Howard Morris (September 4, 1919 - May 21, 2005) was an actor and director who did the first voice for Gopher in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. He also voiced Maltese de Sade in the Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers episode; "Le Purrfect Crime". And played Dr. Zidell in the Touchstone Pictures film Splash. Howard "Howie" Morris (September 4, 1919 - May 21, 2005) was a Jewish American comic actor and director the voice of The Hamburglar in The Adventures of Ronald McDonald: McTreasure Island as well as the appearances in commercials prior to that. He would also provide the voice for Mayor McCheese in commercials. Morris was born in the Bronx, New York, the only child of Hugo and Elsie Morris. His father was an executive of the U.S. Rubber Company until he lost his job during the Great Depression. Morris, after his father death, graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, where he was involved in school plays and playing the drums for a band that specialized in weddings and bar mitzvah, receiving a scholarship from New York University. He dropped out of the university, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, first as an infantryman who saw action in such places as Guadalcanal and The Philippines, in the Pacific Theater, and later, after the war, when he was a first sergeant, he was a member of an entertainment unit, where he remet an old friend, Carl Reiner. After leaving the army, the two went back to New York, where they would perform in several Broadway plays, including the play, Call Me Mister, before they became part of Sid Caesar's television show Your Show of Shows. After working for Caesar, Morris went off on his own to establish his own identity. Although trained as a Shakespearean actor, he began his acting career playing such characters as the wily and over the top "mountain man" character Ernest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show. He would reprised the character in the 1986 television movie, Return to Mayberry. During the 1960s and 1970s, Morris performed in such comedies as Boys' Night Out, The Nutty Professor, Way... Way Out, High Anxiety and History of the World: Part I. At the same time, he directed comedians Danny Thomas and Andy Griffith on their respective shows, as well as the black-and-white pilot for Get Smart. Morris also directed several episodes of the sitcom Hogan's Heroes. Morris was also the director of such films as Who's Minding the Mint?, With Six You Get Eggroll and Don't Drink the Water. Morris also did voices for a number of animation series over the years, including doing the boings and sound effects for the voice of Gerald in the Gerald McBoing-Boing animated feature and The Gerald McBoing-Boing Show. He has also appeared in a number of Hanna-Barbara series, such as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, The Atom Ant Show and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo. Morris also appeared in such animanted shows as the various Archie series, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, The Secret Lives of Waldo Kitty, DuckTales, TaleSpin, and Galaxy High, where he did the voices of Professor Icenstein and Luigi La Bounci. In the 1980s, he did the voice of Wade Duck, a duck who was afraid of almost everything, in the U.S. Acres segment of the Garfield and Friends animated series. He was also the voice director for Police Academy, Richie Rich, Bionic Six, Galaxy High, The Snorks, The Mighty Orbots, Rose Petal Place, The Dogfather and Kidd Video. Morris also directed commercials including several McDonaldland commercials for McDonald's. He also did the voice for the Qantas Airline's Koala mascot. He died in 2005 from a heart ailment. Howard Morris (September 4, 1919 - May 21, 2005) was an actor and director who did the first voice for Gopher in The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. When he retired, Michael Gough took over. Howard Morris was an American comic actor and director, best known for his role as Ernest T. Bass on The Andy Griffith Show. He was the voice of Grandpa Jetson on The Jetsons, and Flem on Cow and Chicken. Morris' best known on-camera role was deranged rock-throwing hillbilly Ernest T. Bass in five episodes of The Andy Griffith Show, and he became a notable director in TV and occasionally in movies. It's not exactly dirty—it just ain't quite clean... the guy is very talented and it's a funny idea, but I guess I'm just old fashioned." Morris began his acting career during World War II, appearing in army productions of Shakespeare tragedies, where he first met Carl Reiner. Post war, both Morris and Reiner became staff writers and performers on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows; Morris' notable roles included a member of the rock trio The Crewcuts and, in one well-known sketch, the hysterical Uncle Goopy, who appears on a reunion show, affectionately latches onto Caesar's leg and refuses to let go. From there, he went on to appear on such series as Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Twilight Zone, Make Room for Daddy, and even the 1967 Tarzan TV series. Morris also directed episodes of Andy Griffith Show, as well as The Dick Van Dyke Show, Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C., Hogan's Heroes, and the pilot for Get Smart. In films, he helmed Who's Minding the Mint (with Milton Berle), With Six You Get Egg Roll, and The Cocoanuts (with Donny Osmond and Marie Osmond). He also produced the short-lived 1972 TV series The Corner Bar. In films, Morris played Jerry Lewis' sad-sack father in The Nutty Professor and also had roles in 1960s comedies like Forty-Pounds of Trouble and Boys' Night Out with Tony Randall. Later on, Morris appeared on-camera in films directed by old colleagues like Andy Griffith Show alum Ron Howard's Splash (as a professor) and several films from Your Show of Shows writer Mel Brooks (High Anxiety, History of the World: Part I, and Life Stinks). Morris's voice roles included playing Beetle Bailey in the 1960s King Features animated series and he was heard in the Oscar-winning short film Munro. He originated the part of Gopher in Disney's Winnie the Pooh featurettes and was a favorite of Hanna-Barbera Studios, with turns as rock star Jet Screamer in The Jetsons, many roles in The Flintstones, Mr. Peebles in Magilla Gorilla, and the original voice of Atom Ant, until the actor told Joseph Barbera to perform an "anatomically impossible" task, and was replaced by Don Messick. He was the original voice of Hamburglar for McDonald's commercials, which he often directed. His last roles included guest spots on Baywatch and an appearance on the 2004 TV Land Awards. __NOEDITSECTION__ Image:Information-silk.png|Character Template rect 0 0 20 20 Staff Template desc none Howard Morris Real Name Unknown Job Titles Voice Actor First publication Unknown Howard Morris (September 4, 1919 – May 21, 2005) was an American comic actor and director. He was the original voice of Atom Ant, and provided the voice of Mr. Peebles and Mushmouse in the Magilla Gorilla series, teaming up again with Allan Melvin, who performed the voice for Magilla. In another series, Morris was heard as the voice of Breezly Bruin, which was similar in tone to the Bill Scott vocalization of Bullwinkle.
