His abilities are weak compared to others, so he relies on his intelligence to get him out of a jam and away from the slag pits. Fear of reprisal keeps him in line, and he follows orders only to the point of self-preservation. These skills, combined with his cowardice and adherence to self-preservation, make Whitenoise a rather ineffective warrior, but still one who is useful in group tactics.
