Er kehrt zu den anderen Göttern zurück und klagt ihnen sein Leid. Seine Tochter, die Landesgöttin Inara, läd daraufhin, auf Anraten des Menschen Hupasija, Illuyanka und seine Kinder zu einem Fest ein. Sie betrinken sich und werden von Hupasija gefangen und von Tarhunna getötet. Inara hingegen heiratet Hupasija, lässt ihn aber ihr Haus auf einem Felsen nicht verlassen. Er darf nicht einmal zum Fenster hinaus sehen. Als er dies doch tut, bekommt er Heimweh, da er seine Familie erblickt, und wird von der Göttin getötet. Die neuere Fassung beginnt ebenfalls mit Illuyankas Sieg über den Wettergott, unterscheidet sich aber ansonsten. So stiehlt Illuyanka nach seinem Sieg die Augen und das Herz des Wettergottes, während Tarhunna mit einer Menschenfrau ein Kind zeugt. Dieser Halbgott heiratet Illuyankas Tochter und erhält als Hochzeitsgabe Tarhunnas Augen und Herz. Er gibt sie seinem Vater, der daraufhin wieder seine alte Kraft erhält. Tarhunna tötet nun nicht nur Illuyanka, sondern auch seinen eigenen Sohn, der durch die Hochzeit ein Teil von Illuyankas Familie geworden war. In the second, Teshub loses instead, and Illuyanka takes his eyes and heart as proof of victory. To retrieve them, Teshub has his son Sarruma marry Illuyanka's daughter and ask for the return of the eyes and heart as a wedding gift. Restored, Teshub again challenges Illuyanka and is triumphant. However, Sarruma realizes he was merely used, and as the dragon dies, he demands his father destroy him as well. Teshub complies, killing Illuyanka and Sarruma with a raging storm.
