Bird-Man Contest
rdfs:comment
The Bird-Man Contest is a mini-game from The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. It is held on the Flight Control Platform in square B7 of the Great Sea. The only "land" there is a raised wooden platform that hosts the Bird-Man Contest. This contest, run by Obli and Willi, tests Link's ability to maneuver in the air while floating with the Deku Leaf. The goal is to float as far as possible and is attained by shifting the wind to a favorable direction and making the most of the whirling updrafts throughout the course. Rewards for passing the goal line and setting a new record include Rupees and a Piece of Heart. It is impossible to beat without the extended Magic Meter or the Tingle Tuner's Green or Blue Ting.

This event was likely inspired by a real world event called a Flugtag in which people jump off a pier in an attempt to fly in homemade flying machines. The flying machines are usually launched off a pier about 30 feet high until they crash into the sea (or suitably sized reservoir of water).
