Nemean Lion Nemean lion
rdfs:comment
In Greek mythology, the Nemean Lion was a monstrous lion with hide so thick, no weapons could penetrate it. It lurked in Nemea and devoured many villagers. The 1st Labor given to Hercules was to kill the Nemean Lion and bring back its hide. Hercules tried to kill it with arrows, a wooden club, a bronze sword, but nothing could penetrate its skin. Hercules was able to kill it by fighting it with his bare hands and strangling the beast. Hercules had difficulty skinning the beast, but eventually managed to do so by using the Nemean Lion’s own claws. Because of their strength and near- indestructibility, Nemean Lions are required to follow the Nemean Code to protect others from possible harm, and the Avalon Elders have the power to revoke medallions if this code is broken. If a Nemean Lion refuses to swear into the Code prior to their turning, they will not be allowed to recieve a medallion, and as a result, prohibited from turning. The medallion of species was available for purchase as a Medallion, but is currently unavailable. The lion is usually considered to have been the offspring of Typhon (or Orthrus) and Echidna; it is also said to have fallen from the moon as the offspring of Zeus and Selene, or alternatively born of the Chimera. The Nemean lion was sent to Nemea in the Peloponnesus to terrorize the city. The Nemean Lion is a monstrous lion, the son of Typhon and Echidna. The Nemean Lion lived around Nemea and made the life in the valleys nearby dangerous. It played a role in one of Hercules' labors; Hercules was told to kill it. Since it could not be harmed by any weapon, Hercules suffocated it to death. From its body Hercules took its skull as a helmet and from its skin he made a mantle. The Nemean Lion was the scourge of Nemea who was feared by all its inhabitants. In the film, the Nemean Lion appeared in the Zero to Hero segment wherein he was sent by Hades to kill Hercules, however Hercules easily defeated him with a swift punch and a kick to the rear thus increasing Hercules' fame. He also appeared in the animated series where it is revealed that he also fought a young Hercules but believed that Hercules' friend Icarus was the one who defeated him. In the episode, after having defeated all of Nemea's warriors he grew bored and came to Athens hoping to find some half worthy heroes to fight him. The Nemean Lion possessed two characteristics which made him a powerful foe: First, his skin was invulnerable to any weapon, melee or ranged. Second, he was larger than a regular lion The Nemean lion (In Greek: Λέων τῆς Νεμέας (Léōn tēs Neméas); Latin: Leo Nemaeus) was a monster in Greek mythology that resided at Nemea. It is said that the Nemean Lion could not be killed with mortal weapons because of its golden fur which gave him imperviousness to attacks. The creature's claws were sharper than conventional swords and could cut through any armor. The Nemean Lion is usually considered to have been the offspring of Typhon and Echidna; other origins states that the lion fell from the moon as the offspring of Zeus and Selene, or that he was born of the Chimera. Hercules saved the people of Nemea from the Nemean Lion by killing it. For his troubles, he received a scar from the savage beast. He kept the Lion's skin and would use it to play with his children; pretending he was a lion. These creatures are based on a monster of the same name in Greek myth. The Nemean lion is a monster that is best known for being one of the beasts fought by Hercules as one of his twelve labors. The Nemean Lion is one of the children of the faded Titaness of the moon, Selene, and Zeus, which she bore on request of Hera and fell from the moon so the latter could send it after Hercules. It is also said to have been the son of Echidna and Typhon or the offspring of Orthus and the Chimera. The Nemean Lion was the fearsome offspring of the legendary Typhon and its mate, Echidna, and participated with both monsters in the battle against the Gods. When the Typhon was defeated by Zeus, the Nemean Lion, along with its siblings Cerberus, Chimaera, Sphinx, Hydra, Ladon, and Orthus were allowed to live to pose challenges to future heroes. The name Nemean Lion refers to the city, Nemea, near which the beast had its lair. The Nemean Lion is a Greek Heroic Age myth unit available if worshipping Aphrodite.

n12:abstract
The Nemean Lion was the offspring of the monsters Typhon and Echidna. Its siblings were Chimera, Cerberus, Orthrus (a 2-headed monster dog), Hydra, Ladon, Ethon, and the Sphinx. The Nemean Lion is a Greek Heroic Age myth unit available if worshipping Aphrodite. The Nemean lion (In Greek: Λέων τῆς Νεμέας (Léōn tēs Neméas); Latin: Leo Nemaeus) was a monster in Greek mythology that resided at Nemea. It is said that the Nemean Lion could not be killed with mortal weapons because of its golden fur which gave him imperviousness to attacks. The creature's claws were sharper than conventional swords and could cut through any armor. It was said to have had great cunning, further emphasized by it's capacity to shapeshift into the women in distress that it kidnapped from other cities, tricking would-be slayers to lower their guard in its lair before devouring them and later offer their bones to Hades. The Nemean Lion is usually considered to have been the offspring of Typhon and Echidna; other origins states that the lion fell from the moon as the offspring of Zeus and Selene, or that he was born of the Chimera. The Nemean lion was sent to Nemea in the Peloponnesus to terrorize the city. It was ultimately slain by Heracles (Hercules) as part of the first labour, which earned him the Nemean Lion's hide. The Nemean Lion possessed two characteristics which made him a powerful foe: First, his skin was invulnerable to any weapon, melee or ranged. Second, he was larger than a regular lion The Nemean Lion is a monstrous lion, the son of Typhon and Echidna. Hercules saved the people of Nemea from the Nemean Lion by killing it. For his troubles, he received a scar from the savage beast. He kept the Lion's skin and would use it to play with his children; pretending he was a lion. The Nemean Lion was defeated by Heracles as the first of his Twelve Labors. Since the Nemean Lion's skin was impenetrable, Heracles chased it from its lair, bashed it with his club, and strangled it to death. He then skinned it with its own claw and used the skin as an impenetrable coat of armor that protected him in his later labors. The name Nemean Lion refers to the city, Nemea, near which the beast had its lair. These creatures are based on a monster of the same name in Greek myth.
