n6:abstract
Alphonse Six (Bruges, 1890 - 1 January Boutersem, August 19, 1914) was a Belgian footballer. He knew success in Belgium if attacker at Cercle Brugge and in Franceat Olympique Lillois. He also played nine games as international, in which he scored eight times. Six was educated at the youth of Cercle Brugge. In season 1909/1910 obtained Alphonse for the first time a basic place in the a-team of Cercle. Alphonse knew year 27 times to score. On 13 March 1910, he made his debut for the Netherlands against Belgian national team , where he immediately scored (the match ended 3-2). In the1910/1911 season he managed to score 38 times, and he picked up the first League title with Cercle Brugge from the club history. In February 1912 he set a club record that would last in the 21st century: he scored 5 times in one game, more particularly in a 0-6 victory at Excelsior SC de Bruxelles. In season 1912/1913 he received an offer from the successful club Union Saint-Gilloise. The club promised him not only a place in the team, but also a job. When this last promise was withdrawn, refused to draw Six to Union. Six was eventually suspended by the Belgian football association. He sought his salvation then in Lille, where he signed for Olympique Lillois for the season 1913/14. He won the French Championship titlethat season, making him the first Belgian champion title that a foreign player was picked up. The European leagues were interrupted by the first world war and Alphonse, who was back under the Lancer weapons in August 1914. He died already after 4 days to Boutersem. Alphonse Six (1 January 1890 in Bruges – 19 August 1914 in Boutersem) was a Belgian football player. Six is mainly remembered for his goal-scoring capacities. In his period with Cercle Brugge he scored 93 times in only 89 matches. His 1910-1911 season was especially remarkable, when scoring 38 goals in 20 matches, half of the goals Cercle Brugge scored that season. In 1910 Six received his first cap for Belgium, winning 3-2 against the Netherlands and scoring once. Six played nine times for Belgium, scoring eight goals. Six still holds two Cercle Brugge team records: * An average of 1.045 goals per match. * Five goals in one match, against R.E. Sport's Club In 1912, Six left Cercle for Union SG. Due to Union SG not keeping their promises about a job for him - professional footballers were unheard of at that time - he moved to Olympique Lillois, a predecessor of Lille OSC. That season he became the first Belgian football player to become a champion in a foreign country.
