She sipped on her newly procured Chinese tea, eying him with a diamond hard stare. Her other hand held a second cup and saucer, brimming with hot liquid. Having already made her rounds Colonel Gentleman was now the only one without a cup. However she made no move to cross the distance, simply staring at him, cup in hand, stone still. The room was deafeningly silent, thick with the quiet of all the conversations not going on. Out of the corner of his eye, Colonel Gentlemen caught Ting Wu's icy stare and realized that the jig, as they say, was up. "Miss Dodge, would you kindly take the helm. I believe I need a moment to compose myself up after these, uh, most recent revelations..." he said, at last breaking the silence. Making subtle eye contact with Ting Wu, Colonel Gentlemen left the helm under Verdie's control and excused himself to the rear cabin. After a suitably proper delay, Ting Wu politely excused herself, bowed, and followed after him. She closed the door softly behind her, and approached him with a calm but icy stare. "I suppose we have much to discuss here," said Colonel Gentlemen with a distinctly American accent. Ting Wu's eyes grew slightly wider as yet another deception was revealed. Crossing the distance, she shoved the cup and saucer into Colonel Gentlemen hands, sloshing some on his shirt. “What is next Colonel Gentlemen? Will I find out that you are perhaps the Emperors own long lost son?” Her voice was low and calm. Even though she looked up at him, her ferocity was not diminished and perhaps was enhanced by the fact that she did not rant or rave. “I have had some experience with Dragons, Colonel.” She turned her back to him, walking to the far wall by the door, her own cup in hand. “None of it good.” She turned to lean against the wall, sipping her tea. A well trained eye could see that her at ease look, masked the fact that every muscle was tensed. “Now I can't fault you for your ... condition. It wasn't your doing. Nor the fact that we all assumed you human. The question was never presented so was never in need of answering.” She looked up from her tea, “No, that I do not care about.” "Calm yourself my good lady, please. First off, my real name is Dirk Smallwood, Colonel Gentlemen is just a pseudonym under which I travel." Ting Wu remained silent and Colonel Gentlemen continued. "Yes, uh... Well I did hide my true nature and I am glad that you hold me blameless for those actions. Most people, given a choice, would rather not deal in the affairs of my kind. And even though I am only half-dragon, the average man or woman doesn't seem to care of the differences. So when you have lied and hidden your true nature for as long as I have, the lying becomes almost second nature. There was no malice intended I assure you." Colonel Gentlemen cleared his throat and took a sip of tea. “I do not care about all that!” The verve of which she made the statement was unusual for Ting Wu, and the cup she had been so calmly sipping from was flung to the floor, it's contents darkening the carpet. “What I need to know,” she advanced upon him once more, “is who do Dragons talk too? Are you sent by the Emperor?!” she stabbed one graceful finger into the low of his chest, being what she could reach. “I will not go back!” she growled in a low tone. Colonel Gentleman was, for perhaps the first time ever, speechless. His eyes grew wide with confusion and he stammered a bit. "Th-The what? Emperor? Emperor of where? I have absolutely no idea what in the blazes you are talking about!" Ting Wu reached up with both hands and grasped him about the collar. With a hard jerk, she brought him down to eye level with her, which was probably a most uncomfortable position for him. Staring hard into his eyes, searching into them, she waited for any response, his eyes dilating, sweat to break from his brow, even a slight twitch to give away any more lies. None appeared and all his eyes spoke of was overwhelming puzzlement. She waited a few more moments, her nose almost touching his. “I suppose, Dirk Smallwood, I shall believe you for the time being.” And thus released him from her iron grip. Colonel Gentlemen stood back up slowly, quietly pulled down on his shirt, re-tucking it where it had come loose and adjusted his jacket. "Of course now I am all the more curious as to whom you were referring to just now..." he half spoke, half muttered. “And by what rights should I tell you Mr. Smallwood? You whom I've known as Colonel Gentleman coming on nigh three months.” She took a polite step back off his toes. Keeping her eyes off his waist where his shirt had come loose. "Well, I suppose you needn't reveal anything. However in the spirit of openness I have revealed information about myself which I have been keeping secret; my true identity in more ways than one... I believe it to be only fair that you share some such information about yourself." Smirking a little, he adds "However if you are too prideful to share such things then perhaps I have assumed too much." “I should cook you where you stand.” Ting Wu drew her self up her full 5ft 2 inches. Then moved over to the table, where she perched, fiddling with the folds of her silk before looking up at him, resolved. “Do you remember our first voyage together? Strange men in black robes? Olive complexions?” She folded her hands in her lap. “Almond shaped eyes?” She blinked. “Who do you think they were after? The crew of that barge?” She smirked back. “Shirley a wise dragon would have figured it out sooner.” She brushed a hand down her beautiful silk cloths. “And of my cloths and accessories, fine silk, jewels to adorn my hair. From whom would I have gotten them? And for that matter, who would send so many men after one... little... spell caster?” She tisked at him. A coy smile spread across his face as he spoke. "I have made it a point in my many years to never jump to the obvious conclusion. Making connections in one's mind often leads to false assumptions. Were those men after you? Neither the color of their skin nor the shape of their eyes are proof of that. Your clothes are, as far as I am aware, merely the customary dress of your homeland. Many far off lands are said to be full of riches and splendors. I would never have assumed that you had simply pilfered them from your former employer." He stopped to take a sip of the now quite cooled tea, waiting to see how Ting Wu would react. “If we do not take intuitive leaps Mr. Smallwood, then we are but creatures mucking about in the dirt.” She cocked her head to one side, looking up at him. “But I digress. I shall give an answer, but mark me, should I find that you have played me false, you WILL live to regret it. Of that I will make certain. And regardless of my previous ... affection for you, I will spare you no pain.” Her eyes flashed a warning at him. “I have angered the Emperor of China, himself. The Dragon Emperor.” She emphasized Dragon. “He who hordes not treasure or things, but people themselves, power over a nation.” Colonel Gentlemen was visibly taken a back. "I... I do not know what to say to that... Well you obviously know better than I do what the consequences of your actions are. But still your revelation does convince me of one thing I had not been sure of before. If you have truly made an enemy of this great dragon, then you would be wise to seek allies of similar strength and abilities. I am willing to be one of those allies if you would but ask. Dragons do not make friends lightly, as you undoubtedly already know, and we will fight tooth and nail to protect them if endangered. So it comes down to this; shall we be allies and friends or merely cheerful strangers sharing tea and a cramped cabin in some horrid flying machine?" Ting Wu looked away, “You do me an honor, Mr Smallwood.” she smiled thoughtfully, “Perhaps it is time to accept a friend.” She thrust out one small hand in facsimile of English men she had seen do the same. “I would be privileged to have you as a friend and Ally.” Much to Ting Wu's surprise, Colonel Gentlemen smiled and bowed in a traditional Chinese manner before accepting her outstretched hand and giving it quite a hardy handshake. "I hope I did that right. My father always tried to teach me the common courtesies of the foreign lands... I suppose I paid attention to at least some of it." Ting Wu's eyes sparkled as she smiled up at him, pleased. Colonel Gentlemen spoke again with his previous British accent and smiled broadly. "Well, jolly good then. Shall we rejoin our compatriots in the fore-cabin? I suspect that they are growing rather curious as to what the two of us are doing here in such secrecy. I dare say we don't want to raise any untoward notions!" And with that he strode briskly towards the door pausing just before opening it. "Oh, and incidentally, I would appreciate it if you would continue to refer to me as Colonel Gentlemen. Partially because I've become rather fond of the name but mostly because I do not believe the others would quite understand my need for such deceptions as you do. Oh, and of course Masterson should probably not be informed of any of this. Who knows what one such as he is liable to say when soused and in need of a boast to best all others!" Ting Wu let out a genuine laugh. “I suppose I can continue to call you by the name I've known you so long as. And I wouldn't tell that mongrel of a man ANYTHING if I can at all help it.” He opened the door, and held it. "After you my lady." She headed to the door, but as she passed by the Colonel she whispered, her eyes on the floor, “You know, untoward notions would not be SO unobjectionable.” she passed hurriedly through the door and headed off to her quarters.
* Written by Steve and Sarah via Email"@en , "Trust was a game designed and hosted by based on Boquise's and Shadow own idea. They had all looked out for her as Xethra’s ward beyond Xethras wishes. Keola was a part of Guardian now, a big one – she was their main healer now, and ascended to Xethras primary consort after the betrayal of Seton. She hardly needed looking out for anymore, but being an ever coveted medic…perhaps it was just habit. Most of the everyday runnings of the guild were still handled by Xethra, but the field work was taken care of primarily by Devesh and Mirrass. Xethra occasionally stepped in to wield her authority where it was needed, with Keola being the little messenger girl. She now knew every corner and crevice of the Citadel, every trick of the Coliseum, and could counter virtually every malignancy into the madness of Ulduar. Keola had become a very powerful druid in a very short time. She had grown into a strong girl – woman now. She was grown, with a mate, she was a woman. Keola still wasn’t used to thinking of herself in that way. But now standing before Xethra, beside her fellow officers of Guardian, being stared down as if she were a steer for slaughter...Keola hardly felt the confident being that she had become.Heading the line of scrimmage was Devesh. He was extra large and scarred for a Tauren, and never spoke of his service to the Lich King. He was an ever loyal member of the guild probably somehow related to Horarz, and usually a silly one. Humor could have been a defense mechanism, but there was one hardly more reliable than Devesh. Just having him take those two steps ahead of the group, hefting his huge axes, ready to defend to his death…no one could deny his presence was a breath of confidence. Xethra had been immediately suspicious of the Death Knight like everyone else, but now they could hardly imagine a crusade without him.Beside Devesh was another strong Tauren bull, the steadfast and tactical commander Mirrass. He exuded peace and tranquility like any other deeply imbued and trained shaman. He was the level headed voice of reason whenever lids had been flipped, and was usually the one breaking up the venomous beratings before they even happened. Mirrass had done most of the battle plans for their expeditions into the Icecrown Citadel, with careful treading and collaboration with Devesh. His depth of knowledge was vast and he was forever researching, studying, and analyzing the enemy.Keola stood immediately to Mirass’ right and beside the childish assassin, Destiney Giver. Despite his youth, Destiney was as experienced as they rest of them. He never stepped forward to be as strong a commanding presence as the others, but his silliness and his deadly stealth were an important part of the equation still. He was one of the few people in the entire world who could get away with pestering and annoying Xethra to the point of murder…and somehow avoid her wrath. Perhaps they had some kind of understanding, seeing as the both of them were afflicted Forsaken.Bringing up the end of the line, the newest but certainly not the weakest officer to Guardian’s line up was the brash, egotistical, ruthless hunter Koden. Koden was very much full of pride like any other Orc. Sometimes, perhaps a little too proud. His prowess as a hunter was known across the lands, and he was another member who would be loyal to Guardian to the death. His wolf, as stupid as the creature was, shared his masters’ zeal. Always alert and carrying out his duties without questions, he was a reflection of Koden’s loyalty and passion as well. Currently, he was sniffing around Destineys crotch, suspicious of something or other. Destineys death grip on his poisoned dagger did not deter the creature as Koden hid a smug smirk behind his huge helm. Destiney’s silliness seemed to be rubbing off at the wrong time, as usual.“Our progress seems to have stymied.” Xethra said, tapping at her chin. “We need more experienced soldiers. Keola and Devesh especially are tiring.” With that, Xethra launched into a short status of the other main soldiers in the guild’s order, with varying good and bad news for each.“I’m fine, Miss Xethra.” Keola spoke up during one of the warlock’s pauses. “I don’t need a break. I make sure that I’m rested for every run.”“Leigheas will be back with us shortly. ““No need to rush him back into duty,” Keola said, stealing a glance to Mirrass on her left.“Both crusades need experienced healers. If he is fit, he will be on the line.” Xethra said, leaning back against her desk. “If you continue to sleep for days, I will remove you from service.”“I was fighting off a cold, I am better now.” Keola said, picking at a small fray on her leather belt.“I can’t have you holding the team back. I am sure a week off will be good. Geranguas will take you somewhere to rest.”“Ger goes with Devesh and Mirrass into the Citadel. He won’t really be happy about being told he can’t go, and you need more people for the team. I won’t stand back.““Are you trying to defy me?” Xethra stood up, visibly angered judging by her unusually stiff posture.“We can work something out to give Keola time to rest this week,” Mirrass said. “I am sure it would do her well.”Xethra didn’t seem to hear him, her gaze hard on Keola. “It would be wise for you to do as I say.”“Miss Xethra, I don’t think we can afford it. We’re so close to the Lich King…we can’t just give up now.” Keola pleaded, hands clasped before her.“I’m not asking you to give up. I am telling you that you need to rest.” Xethra said.“I’m not going home, I’m going with the rest of the team into the Citdael,” Keola said simply.“You will do as you’re told.” Xethra said, her slight form almost shaking now with rage.“I think it’s time that we left, ma’am.” Devesh said brightly. “Unless there is anything else?”Xethra waved him off. “Dismissed. Not you, Druid.”Keola looked down at the floor, suddenly full of fear as the other officers shuffled out. Xethra was not in a good mood, if she was beyond familiar pleasantries. Destiney gave her a pat on the arm as he passed, as if reassuring her. As soon as Koden was through the door, Xethra yanked it shut loudly and turned to fix her fel glare upon the younger woman.“What. Was.That.About.” Xethra barked.“I just don’t think-““I don’t really care what you think.” Xethra spat, clenching her fists in rage. “I will not lose you, or any other member of this team. I will order Geranguas to lock you up, if I have to.”“He wouldn’t do it,” Keola said slowly. “At least he trusts me-““It’s not a matter of trust!” Xethra screeched. She launched herself forward to attempt to frighten Keola, but succeeded only in hopping around on her tip-toes in an attempt to scream in her face. “It’s a matter of survival. You never were very good at looking out for yourself. Why do you think I tolerate Geranguas?”“I was just fine before I met Ger!”“Only you would call rolling around in bed with an elf ‘fine’. “ Xethra mocked.“People make mistakes,” Keola said, turning her head to the side to stare at the wall.“Of course you do,” Xethra said, finally turning to throw herself down into the large chair behind her cluttered, oversized work desk. The tiny office was just as small and sparse as Xethra’s own apartment, and just as confining at times.“I don’t want to take the potions anymore, either.” Keola said quickly, turning her gaze the floor. She was prepared for the verbal onslaught, or for things to be thrown at her. A book, quills, shadow bolts, something…but the silence was eerie. Keola blinked and counted slowly to ten before trailing her eyes up the desk to Xethra’s frozen stare.“What brought this on?” Xethra said slowly, fighting to control herself.“I just am not sure what exactly is it they are, or why I’m drinking them. I mean, I think I know…but I really don’t see why you are so worried about me when I should think about me on my own, and just kinda deal with things as they come at me instead of being all paranoid about stuff all of the time.” Keola rambled a little.“I suppose you thought it up yourself. “ Xethra surmised.“I really did.” Keola said, looking back down at the floor again.“Do you know what may happen to you? Your career? Or this guild if you cease the treatments?” Xethra asked, standing with both hands flat on her desk.Keola shook her head ‘no’, glancing at her matron…she was very glad the large desk was still between the two.“Knowing you, and the eyes you bat at your mate…you would end up with child. Sooner than later.” Xethra said, tossing one arm out in some angry gesture. “You can’t expect to keep up a full pace. Not in that condition. Not for very long. Even if I let you, one day Geranguas would step up. True, you would not be with child long.”“But!” Xethra barked for emphasis. “Then comes the care of a child. I’m no babysitter. None of us are. You will be at home, with the child. Watching the skies. Hoping we come home. And the day we don’t…you will forever wonder if it was because of you.”“I don’t even know if that’s possible, with someone like Ger.” Keola murmured.“You would rather tank the chance?”“I think I would.”Xethra threw herself down into her chair again, burying her face in her hands. Keola fixed her gaze on the floor again.“You are so stupid." Xethra murmured. "Fucking stupid. You always have been.”“Then when you retire you won’t make me guild leader.”“Who else?” Xethra asked quietly.“I can think of a lot of people who would make a better leader than me.”“It would be you. How you delegated things after that is up to you.”“Miss Xethra,” Keola started, and then sighed. “I appreciate everything you’ve done for me really I do but…I don’t think I can be what you need me to be.”“I suppose I have made my own mistakes.” Xethra grumbled. “You will make a fine leader for Guardian. When the time is right, of course. If you take what you learn from me, and your fellow members, seriously.”“I do! I swear upon the Earthmother, I do!” Keola choked, pausing to rub the tears from her eyes. “I just want…I just…want you to trust me too, Miss Xethra. I want you to trust me as much as I trust you, and as much as you trust everyone else in Guardian. I’ve done everything that I can to try to make you happy and it’s never good enough. Why am I not good enough for you? What have I done wrong?”Keola covered her face in shame when Xethra turned away from her. She couldn’t help the tears streaming freely down her muzzle, couldn’t hold her breath to stifle the sobs. She felt confined and restricted as she always did in Xethra’s presence. So much…that she didn’t notice when the tiny warlock pulled Keola down to her to wrap her in a surprisingly tender embrace.“I do.” Xethra said. “I do trust you. I still worry.”Keola burst out into wailing, crying buckets of tears, gripping Xethra to her as she bawled. Tears of fear, joy, fright…she didn’t know. Xethra for once just held her.Keola finally pulled away and wiped at her eyes again, staring at the lapel on Xethra’s robe rather than at her face. “T-t-thanks. I’m ok.”“Look. I am not going to go easy on you. But I won’t make you do anything that you don’t want to.” Xethra said, trying to seem aloof with her arms crossed over her chest. “But I will tell you when I disagree.”Keola smiled shakily. “That’s fine. That’s ok. I think I need it sometimes. Thank you so much..I’m sorry…”“Just be alright? Maybe you should find Geranguas, spend some time with him.” Xethra said between gritted teeth.“No, he’ll be fine as long as I am home on time.” Keola said, giving Xethra one more brief hug. “I think I will go make a new friend…” Tags: Keola, Xethra"@en , ""Trust" is a song from the 2008 musical Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Trusts are created in one of two ways:
* An explicit trust, where there is a clear intention to set up a trust; or
* An implied trust, where the circumstances create an obligation to act as if a trust exists A trust does not exist merely because there is a fiduciary duty. For example, depositing money into a bank account does not create a trust even though the bank is being "trusted" with the money and must deal with it in a prudent manner. At law, that money still belongs to the depositor and must usually be returned on demand or on notice. Similarly, shareholders in a corporation are not beneficiaries of a trust, even though the directors and managers of the corporation must use the money provided by shareholders for the benefit of the shareholder - no trust exists because there is no obligation to ever return the money provided by the shareholder. Hallmarks of a trust are generally:
* That the trustee has the authority to deal with the property in the trust as they see fit, without the permission of the beneficiary as long as it is consistent with the intention of the trust.
* The beneficiary is entitled, on adequate notice, to an accounting of the property in a trust.
* That, at some point in the future, the beneficiary will be entitled to payment from the trust or delivery of all the property in the trust and may legally enforce the payment or delivery at law. For example, a wealthy person may place all their property within a trust during their lifetime. They may be both the trustee and beneficiary during their lifetime, but on their death another person becomes the trustee and uses the property for the wealthy person's beneficiaries. This is usually common to avoid complications like estate taxes or the prohibition against disinheriting a spouse. A trust has a distinct legal personality apart from its founder, trustees and beneficiaries. Since it is not a corporation, it is not subject to reporting requirements."@en , "Emily namierza swój kolejny cel, Billa Harmona, zamożnego menadżera funduszu hedgingowego i zaufanego przyjaciela rodziny, który zeznawał podczas procesu, w wyniku, którego jej ojciec został niesłusznie skazany. What feels like a belt is holding my head in place to the backrest. I move my eyes down; I can see most of another man's face there. His head is also strapped down. His eyes are darting left and right, teeth clenched, struggling to free himself. I make my own attempts, knowing they would be useless, but trying anyway. The chair is bolted to the floor, it won't move. The man is pretty close to me, if we could move, we could probably touch. I'm scared. I have no idea how this will play out. "Hey," I say, "you know what's going on here?" "No! I went to sleep and woke up tied to a fucking chair with some asshole in front of me who's apparently in the same fucking situation!" Stupid question I suppose, "Can you move anything besides your eyes and mouth?" He tries again. "Just my fingers and toes, damn much that can do." "Ok," I sigh, "looks like we're stuck here until whoever did this decides to do what they're doing. What's your name?" "Mike." "I'm Chuck." I'm curious about this man. Why is he here with me? "Can you think of any reason you're here? Did you hurt anyone? Steal from anyone? Anything?" "Man, I've never done anything," he cries, "couple speeding tickets, that's it. You think someone would at least tell you why they kidnapped you." "I can't think of anything either," I say truthfully. I look at him, try to think if I know him, or if I had even ever seen him before today. I hadn't. "Any chance you recognize me?" "Don't think so." "Alright, we're two innocent strangers. I guess it's just random. Pick the first person they happen to get, but for what?" I look around as much as I can. The ceiling is high and I can't see any walls. There is a spotlight high over head illuminating us. All my fingers can feel are the edges of the armrest. I can't hear anything beyond my own breathing and the attempted movements of my newfound companion. What could have brought us here? Is this torture? Is there some psychotic force that brought us together? Whatever the answer is, I can feel in my gut that someone's going to die. Hopefully not me. "Shit! I just cut myself, I think! Something hard and sharp is around my right arm." I look back down at him; it's a strain to keep my eyes pointed down so far. He's staring at me, panicking, mouth wide open, and panting. I move my arms as much as I can. "It feels like straps or something are holding down my left arm and metal bands are around my right." "What the hell? What are they going to..." A loud screech. Deafening sounds. Speakers crackle. A booming voice. "Good evening gentlemen. As you have no doubt discovered, you have been restrained and are now part of our little game. Between you is a table. On this table is a gun. In some time the restraints on your right arms will be released. The first to get the gun and kill the other will win their own life. An associate will put you to sleep and you will be released, a free man. The other will be disposed of and you will never be bothered again. If neither of you shoot the gun within five minutes of your restraints being released, a lethal electric current will be sent through your chairs killing you both, quite painfully in fact. It's better for one to live than both to die." Silence. We wait for the restraint to be released. It doesn't come. "What the fuck, Chuck?" "I guess we'll have to wait. Maybe they want us to get to know the man we have to kill." "I don't want to kill anyone! But I sure as hell don't want to die!" I yelled, "Well, would you rather kill me or die!? That's the important question! Is your life worth the death of someone else? Could you live your life knowing that you murdered someone just so you can live?" "No," he said, "I'd rather die than kill someone, but I'd rather live and not kill even more!" "I feel the same, Mike, but unless you think we could untie ourselves in five minutes with only one hand..." He was silent for a moment, then started whispering. "Yeah? What if we could?" "What?" I yelled, "How can we trust that we actually have five minutes? How can I trust in you? If I reach over to untie myself, how do I know you won't go for the gun?" "Like I said! I'd rather die than kill someone. A shot at us both living is better than the alternative." "I guess it's the only way to not be a murderer." I smile, even though he can't see me, "I trust you, you can trust in me too." So that's our plan, we'll attempt to free ourselves and hope we can do it in time. I know I'm not going to be getting anything off that table before I free myself, and I really think that Mike won't try to kill me. I start going over plans to get myself free. Would it be easier to undo the other arm first? Would I need to see my other arm to free it? If not I would need to remove my head restraint so I could look, but could I do it with only one hand? I decide that when the time came I would just go with my instinct. "It feels like there are three straps on each limb, one on my head, one under my shoulders and one around my waist." "So not counting the ones on the right arm, that's," Mike thought for a second, "twelve straps? Or belts? Whatever they are, I'm sure we have enough time." We wait. "So, you got a family or anything Chuck? "No, not really," I say. "My parents are around and I see them every once in a while. I have a few friends, no one really close though. You?" "I have a girlfriend and a kid, and the rest of the family. I really want to get back to them. I just got a new job, planning on getting a house. Things are going pretty well. Man, why did this have to happen now?" "Why does this have to happen at all? Why are people so fond of death?" The life of someone like me against someone like him didn't seem fair. I still want to live though. I don't want to kill him, but I'm not going to offer myself as a sacrifice so that he can live. The only thing a reasonable person would do is our plan. We talk for a while. He tells me about where he grew up, what he does for a living, how he met his girlfriend, about how wonderful his daughter is. He starts getting choked up and I take over. I talk about just anything, school, friends, my plans in life. We keep talking about the lives we very well might lose until we can't bear to talk about it anymore. We wait for what seems like an hour in silence. Still, nothing happens. Mike started yelling "Hey! Come on! We gonna sit here all day?" Nothing in reply but silence. Mike is shaking, as much as he could anyway. "I want to see my kid again. I want to get out of here." "Mike, just relax. Think about how you're going to get out of here, think about getting your other arm free, your head, your chest, your legs." "Alright, alright. I'm cool." He doesn't seem cool. We wait some more. Every time I look down, Mike seems worse. I try talking to him, get him out of his own head, but he won't talk back. I wait a while, hoping that we can both be free of this accursed game. As I look at him, it feels to me that I've been here for years, just sitting here, looking across this table. Eventually he starts muttering, but I can hear him. "We just assume that we can get out of here. They could have us locked in. They could have people kill us the minute we walk out. I don't even know where we are. Could be the middle of the desert or Antarctica for all I know. Hell, there could be someone six feet to the left and I wouldn't know. They could be listening in the whole time and know what we plan to do. I don't even know what's holding me down. They might have to cut me out of here and there's no way to get out with just my one hand. Someone has to die, and it sure as hell won't be me." "Mike," I try to reassure him, "focus. Focus on getting out. No one has to die. I know it. You have to know it too. Twelve straps, that's it. We walk out, finally free." Restraint is released. I lift my right arm to the belt that's on my head and start to undo it. I see Mike reach across the table, I know I can't win. "Sorry Chuck, I have a family. I've got more to live for than you!" "Don't do this! There's plenty of time! Don't go home to your family a murderer!" "Fuck you." The belt on my head is loose, I look down quickly. His hand's waving back and forth on the table trying to find the gun. It's not there. "Five years," I say standing up, reaching for the kill switch. "Five years of endless variations, and they always reach for the gun." Written by Naheenanajah"@en , "The Trust is an interplanetary terrorist group based on Earth, composed of rogue ex-NID operatives and the political and business cabal that funded them."@en , "Mit einem lauten Knall fiel die Tür ins Schloss. „Was ist los?
