Capitalizing on his success, the Hall of Famer later ventured into Hollywood with various television, film, and music projects. Lou Albano was born in Rome, Italy in July 29, 1933. His family moved to the United States of America preceding his birth. In his adolescence, Albano enjoyed playing football, and after high school, he joined the U.S. Army. At the end of his military career, he was introduced to professional wrestling. He began working in a tag team called the Sicilians, but he got put right off after people started to throw rocks and snowballs at him, and basically he'd had enough. Another contributing factor is that Mafia members harassed the Sicilians, and demanded that they dissolve because their gig was being too resemblant of the actual Mafia. In addition, he broke his back twice. So he quit. Louis Vincent "Captain Lou" Albano (b. July 29, 1933 - d. Louis Vincent Albano (born July 29, 1933), better known by his ring name Captain Lou Albano, is an American former professional wrestler, manager and actor. With an over-the-top personality and a penchant for boisterous declarations, Albano was the epitome of the antagonistic manager that raised the ire of wrestlers and incited the anger of spectators. Throughout his forty two year career, Albano guided 15 different tag teams and 4 singles competitors to championship gold. A unique showman, with an elongated beard, rubberband facial piercings, and loud outfits, he was the forefather of the 1980s Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection. Collaborating with Cyndi Lauper, Albano helped usher in wrestling's crossover success with a mainstream audience. Capitalizing on his success, he later ventured into Hollywood with various television, film, and music projects. Louis Vincent Albano (* 29. Juli 1933 in Rom, Italien; † 14. Louis Vincent Albano, more often known as "Captain" Lou Albano (July 29, 1933 – October 14, 2009), was a professional hall of fame wrestler-turned-manager, known for portraying Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show! in 1989 . Albano was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1933. As a teenager, Lou did well in football, but failed to impress scouts sufficiently to qualify for a football scholarship. After graduating high school, Albano enlisted in the US Army. Following his military career he got a job as a nightclub bouncer, where soon he was introduced to professional wrestling. He formed a tag team known as the Sicilians, whose gag was dressing in expensive suits and adopting wiseguy personas, but he soon gave up on that image after received harassment from people outside of wrestling, as well as threats from actual mobsters that his act was too akin to the real thing. In 1969, Albano retired from active wrestling to focus solely on management. His record on managing champions is still one of the highest today. In addition to wrestling, Albano also managed singer Cyndi Lauper, and was featured in her music video Girls Just Want to Have Fun. Lou Albano was featured as Frankie the Fixer in the 1986 film Wise Guys and also spoofed his wrestling persona in the 1992 film Stay Tuned with John Ritter. However, his role as Mario was arguably his best known role outside of the WWF. In a 1989 episode of Regis & Kathie Lee, Albano hired a barber to shave off his trademark goatee on the set in order to prepare for the role as Mario. Sometimes Albano, along with his costar Danny Wells, would play other characters in the Mario family, such as Aunt Marianna or Mario Bob. Albano played himself in the live action segment, "Captain Lou is Missing!". In addition to the live action segments, Albano also voiced the animated cartoon version of Mario. In 1995, he was inducted into the WWF/E Hall of Fame.
