"Joan Corrie (n\u00E9e Nugent) was a sister of Emily Bishop. One of six children in the Nugent family, her mother died when she was young and she was taken care of along with her sisters and brother by Emily, without the help of father James. Joan went on to get married. It was Joan who arrived in Coronation Street in February 1966 to inform Emily that their father had suffered a stroke and due to his ill health she would be forced to put him into a home unless he was nursed by Emily as her other sisters had also refused to look after him. While Emily initially agreed to this, by 1967 she had persuaded her sisters to share the responsibility for their father's care in turn. Joan has not visited Weatherfield to see Emily since."@en .
