He travels throught the jungle swinging from vines, and he wears nothing but a loincloth. He has a knife that he uses to hunt, fight and shave. He is John Clayton, the son of Lord and Lady Greystoke. One day, they were travelling by boat with baby John when their ship sunk and they were marroned in the coast of Africa. The savage lion Sabor killed them soon after, but the gorilla Kala rescued the baby and raised him among the apes as one of their own. Years later, when he was an adult, an American girl named Jane Porter arrived to his jungle. They met, and quickly fell in love. It was Jane who taught him the basics of the human world. Jane took him to the US, but he preferred to live in the jungle, so Jane moved with him to the African jungle, where they live as husband and wife. His partner are the ape Cheetah and the elephant Tantor. Tarzan holds the Guiness World Record for being the most filmed character in the history of cinema. Among his countless movies are: -the Johnny Weismuller ones, that helped bring Tarzan into popular culture and defined Tarzan as we know it. -\"Greystoke\", with Christopher Lambert as Tarzan, an accurate adaptation of the book. It warranted a sequel that was less true to the original material. -\"Tarzan the Ape Man\", a softcore movie with Bo Derek as Jane. -the Disney movie \"Tarzan\". There, Cheetah is replaced with Terk, who in the original story was a mean gorilla who bullied the pack and who was defeated by Tarzan, thus gaining the respect of the pack. Sabor is changed to a leopard, since in real life there are no lions in the African jungle. Jane is changed from a blonde American to a redhead British woman. Also, the movie takes a minor character from the story, Tarzan's cousin William Cecil Clayton, and makes him the villain. Also, Professor Porter, Jane's father, joins her and Tarzan in the jungle in this version of the story. This version of Tarzan appears in \"Kingdom Hearts\". There, Clayton tries to use the Heartless to hunt down the gorillas living in the jungle, so Tarzan teams up with Sora, Goofy and Donald to defeat him. \"Tarzan II\" tells us more about the origin of this version of Tarzan. Tarzan also has several cartoons made about him, and they are all about Tarzan and Jane's further adventures in the jungle. He is also a character in the Dark Horse Comics universe, where he met Batman and Superman, and fought against the Predator. He speaks in broken English, similar to the Incredible Hulk."@en . . . Though he befriends other gorillas and animals, including the young female gorilla named Terk and the paranoid male elephant named Tantor, Tarzan finds himself unable to keep up with them, so he takes great efforts to improve himself. As a young man, Tarzan manages to kill Sabor with his crude spear and protect the troop, gaining Kerchak's reluctant respect. The gorilla troop's peaceful life is interrupted by the arrival of a team of human explorers from England, consisting of Professor Porter, his daughter Jane, and their hunter-guide Clayton. Jane accidentally becomes separated from the group and chased by a pack of baboons, and Tarzan saves her. He recognizes that she is the same as he is: a human. Jane leads Tarzan back to the explorers' camp, where Porter and Clayton both take great interest in him \u2014 the former in terms of scientific progress while the latter hoping to have Tarzan lead him to the gorillas so that he can capture them and return with them to England. Despite Kerchak's warnings to be wary of the humans, Tarzan continues to return to the camp and be taught by Porter, Clayton, and Jane to speak English and learn of the human world. He and Jane begin to fall in love. However, they are having a difficult time convincing Tarzan to lead him to the gorillas, due to Tarzan's fear for their safety from the threat of Kerchak. The explorers' ship returns to retrieve them. Jane convinces Tarzan to return with them to England, but Tarzan in turn convinces Jane to stay with him when Jane explains the unlikelihood of ever returning to Tarzan's home. Clayton convinces Tarzan that Jane will stay with him forever if he reveals the gorillas. Tarzan agrees and leads the party to the nesting grounds, while Terk and Tantor lure Kerchak away to avoid having him attack the humans. Porter and Jane are excited to mingle with the gorillas, but Kerchak comes back and threatens to kill them. Tarzan is forced to hold Kerchak at bay while the humans escape, and decides to leave the troop himself, now humiliated by his actions. Kala takes Tarzan to the treehouse she found him in, shows him his true past, and tells him that she wants him to be happy whatever he decided. Tarzan puts on a suit that belonged to his Father, signifying his decision to go to England. When Tarzan boards the ship with Jane and Porter the next day, they are ambushed by Clayton and his band of stowaway thugs and detained in the brig. Tarzan flees with the help of Terk and Tantor, and he returns to the gorillas' home ground. Clayton mortally wounds Kerchak and then engages Tarzan in a fierce battle across the vine-covered trees. Despite Tarzan sparing his life, Clayton inadvertently lynches himself with a vine tangled around his neck as he falls. Kerchak, in his dying breath, finally accepts Tarzan as his new son and names him new leader of the gorilla troop. The rest of the gorillas are freed after scaring away the rest of Clayton's men. The next day, as Porter and Jane prepare to leave on the ship, Tarzan planned to stay to take responsibility with the gorilla troop. As the ship leaves shore, Porter encourages his daughter to stay with the man she loves, and Jane jumps overboard to return to shore; Porter shortly follows her. "When John and Alice Clayton, Lord and Lady Greystoke are marooned on a jungle shore, they make a treehouse wherein to live while awaiting rescue. There, they have a son. Around the time of the child's first birthday, the Claytons are killed by Kerchak, leader of the Mangani (great apes). The baby survives and is adopted by an ape named Kala. Kala names him Tarzan (\"white skin\"), and he eventually kills Kerchak in a fight. At around the age of 20, Tarzan meets an American woman named Jane Porter, and her father. He travels to the United States to find Jane, but soon returns to Africa, becoming the chief of the Waziri tribe, and leading his men to find the lost city of Opar. After learning that he is actually Lord Greystoke, Tarzan marries Jane and returns to his ancestral home in London. Tarzan and Jane have a son named Jack who takes the ape name, Korak (\"killer\"), Son of Tarzan. Eventually, Tarzan becomes unhappy with civilization, and the family returns to Africa. Tarzan possessed nearly superhuman strength and agility, and fought in the ferocious style of the apes. He was an expert climber, diver, swimmer, and was proficient swinging on vines. He often carried a knife, spear or bow. He was able to speak to apes and some other animals using the Mangani dialect, but he also learned to speak fluent English and at least some Waziri, French, Swahili, and Arabic."@en . "Tarzan (John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke) is a fictional character, an archetypal feral child raised in the African jungle by the Mangani great apes; he later experiences civilization only to largely reject it and return to the wild as a heroic adventurer. Created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, Tarzan first appeared in the novel Tarzan of the Apes (magazine publication 1912, book publication 1914), and subsequently in twenty-five sequels, several authorized books by other authors, and innumerable works in other media, both authorized and unauthorized."@en . . . . . . . .
