Hippolyta Hippolyta
rdfs:comment
Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons. She wore the Ring of Behemoth as a necklace that she was given by her mother. Hippolyta's mother is the wife of Metz. Hippolyta is the Classical Age hero for Poseidon. She wields a bow. Hippolyta is the Classical Age archer Hero for Poseidon in Age of Mythology. MID as of 2006-12-13: In a letter sent by the Committee for Quadcentenial, Jean-Luc Picard received confirmation that he would be attending a series of commeration activities in honor of the Apollo 11 moon landings. The activities would last for four days. Concluding the confirmation, the writer quoted this charater's lines from the play. The lines were, Four days will quickly steep themselves in night; Four days will quickly dream away the time. And, then the moon, like to a silver bow, New-bent in heaven, shall behold the night Of our solemnities. (Act 1, Scene 1) Hippolyta was the daughter of Ares, the God of War and Otrera, the former Queen of the Amazon Warriors. Ares eventually gave Hippolyta a girdle that signified her authority as the new Queen of the Amazons. Hippolyta may have had several different names, or she may have had sisters named Antiope, Melanippe, and Penthesilea who were also Queens of the Amazons. The ninth labor of Heracles was retrieving Hippolyta’s girdle. Hippolyta was a daughter of Ares and a former Queen of the Amazons. The character Hippolyta (then spelled "Hippolyte," although the spelling changed to "Hippolyta" during the 1960s) first appeared in All Star Comics #8 (1941), the same comic book that introduced her daughter, Wonder Woman. This original version of the character possessed black hair. According to this story, Hippolyte and the Amazons once resided in "Amazonia" in the days of ancient Greece, until they were beguiled and bested by the demi-god Hercules, who had been sent after her by the Wargod Ares, now named Mars. She was able to beat him using the girdle, but he seduced her, and tricked her into allowing him to see the girdle, allowing him to steal it. This caused them to lose the favor of their patron goddess, Aphrodite. Eventually she and the other Amazons were forgiven, but had to wear Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons, and mother of Diana. She is the wise and fair ruler of Paradise Island. Years ago, under guidance of Athena, goddess of wisdom, Queen Hippolyta molded a young girl out of clay. She fell in love with her creation and cried out to Aphrodite, goddess of beauty and love, to bring the child to life, so that it could be her daughter. Aphrodite appeared and granted her wish. She then instructed Queen Hippolyta to name her after the moon goddess and call her Diana. __TOC__ Hippolyta appears in the myth of Heracles. It was her girdle that Heracles was sent to retrieve for Admeta, the daughter of king Eurystheus, as his ninth labor. When Heracles landed the Amazons received him warmly and Hippolyta came to his ship to greet him. Upon hearing his request, she agreed to let him take the girdle. Hera, however, was not pleased, as was often the case with Heracles. To stop him, Hera came down to the Amazons disguised as one of their own and ran through the land, crying that Heracles meant to kidnap their queen. Probably remembering all too well what Theseus had done, the Amazons charged toward the ship to save Hippolyta. Fearing that Hippolyta had betrayed him, Heracles kisses her for about two minutes then hastily killed her, ripped the girdle from her lifeless bo __FORCETOC__ Image:Help.png Otrera & Ares When Heracles sought ought her girdle as part of his 9th labour, she willingly gave it to him. Hera appeared and spread a rumour Heracles was abducting her. Heracles, seeing the Amazon warriors approaching, took her onboard and gave her to Theseus as a wife. Later, the Amazon warriors were defeated by the Athenian forces in the Attic War in an attempt to get her back. Queen Hippolyta was the daughter of Ares and a devout follower of her grandmother Hera and leader of the Amazon tribe near Gargarencia. She believed that men were hardened creatures who could never learn to respect women. Hera ordered her to kill Hercules but when Hercules began to show that men could be different, Hippolyta fell in love with him and disobeyed the goddess and slept with Hercules. For this, Hera took over Hippolyta's body and began a battle with Hercules. When Hercules revealed his love for Hippolyta and refused to kill her, Hera threw Hippolyta over a waterfall, killing her. She was later resurrected when her grandfather Zeus helped Hercules to go back in time. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons and the mother of Wonder Woman, had taken on the role of Wonder Woman for a time and is the ruler of Paradise Island in the DC Universe. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons of Paradise Island. Queen Hippolyta is the mother of Wonder Woman and the adoptive mother of Donna Troy. Hippolyta was the Queen of the Amazons, ruler of Themyscira, and mother of Diana. Hippolyta was a cavewoman brutally murdered by her mate more than 32,000 years ago. Her soul was deposited in the Well of Souls with that of other slain women. She is the first to be reincarnated by the Olympian Gods thus becoming Queen of a new race that would become the Amazons.

Otrera & Ares __FORCETOC__ Image:Help.png MID as of 2006-12-13: Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons. She wore the Ring of Behemoth as a necklace that she was given by her mother. Hippolyta's mother is the wife of Metz. Hippolyta was the daughter of Ares, the God of War and Otrera, the former Queen of the Amazon Warriors. In a letter sent by the Committee for Quadcentenial, Jean-Luc Picard received confirmation that he would be attending a series of commeration activities in honor of the Apollo 11 moon landings. (Act 1, Scene 1) The writer advised Picard not to be solemn. The letter containing this information was included in the Picard family album during the filming of Generations. However, the information is non-canon as the letter was never seen on-screen. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons and the mother of Wonder Woman, had taken on the role of Wonder Woman for a time and is the ruler of Paradise Island in the DC Universe. Hippolyta was the Queen of the Amazons, ruler of Themyscira, and mother of Diana. Queen Hippolyta is the mother of Wonder Woman and the adoptive mother of Donna Troy. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons of Paradise Island. Eventually she and the other Amazons were forgiven, but had to wear bracelets to remind them of the chains which once bound them. To regain their status, the Amazons were forced to leave the mortal world and relocate to Paradise Island. There they established their own society, free from the evils of man's world. So long as they remained there and Hippolyte retained possession of her magic girdle, the Amazons would be immortal. Much of this history was adapted and expanded upon in the modern version of the Wonder Woman comics. For the most part, Hippolyte remained on Paradise Island during the Golden Age era, rarely interacting with the modern world to which her daughter had journeyed. Her role was that of the Amazon Queen and mentor to Wonder Woman. She was devoted to the Olympian goddesses, particularly the Amazons' patron Aphrodite, and was adamant that man never be allowed to set foot on Paradise Island. Although she remained mainly on the island, in one memorable story from Sensation Comics #26 (reprinted in Wonder Woman: The Complete History), Hippolyte travels to Man's World and briefly assumes the role of Wonder Woman. In the first appearance of Villany inc she is kidnapped to lure Wonder Woman into a trap. In the 1960s when DC Comics introduced the concept of the Multiverse, this Hippolyte was established as existing on the world known as Earth-2. This incarnation of Hippolyte was phased out around issue #97 of the original Wonder Woman comic when the focus shifted from Earth-2 to the more modern versions of the characters on Earth-1. The Silver Age Hippolyte continued thereafter and had blonde hair. Her history was largely identical to the Golden Age version, though a few significant Silver Age stories diverge from the original. For example, it was established that Hippolyta had crafted a second daughter from clay, a dark-skinned Amazon named Nubia who was to be Wonder Woman's twin sister before she was spirited away by the god Mars. She was also the adoptive mother of Donna Troy, who had been rescued from a fire and brought to Paradise Island. As before, Hippolyta's role in the Silver Age era was primarily that of Paradise Island's queen and mentor to Wonder Woman. She was frequently shown interacting with her daughter as well as supporting characters of the era such as Wonder Girl and Wonder Tot. According to the DC Comics 1976 calendar, Hippolyta was born on January 8. Hippolyta was also instrumental in several of the continuity shake-ups for the Earth-One Wonder Woman. Enraged that her daughter, recovering from amnesia, had submitted to trials by the Justice League to prove her worth to rejoin, she created her own test which involved resurrecting Steve Trevor to lead an assault on Paradise Island. The goddess Aphrodite granted Diana's wish to allow the resurrected Trevor to continue living (although he was later revealed to be Eros animating Trevor's body). After Trevor had again been killed and a grief-stricken Diana returned home, Hippolyta erased Diana's memories of him; when a Trevor from a parallel universe burst through the barriers between worlds and crashed off Paradise Island, Hippolyta asked Aphrodite to alter the memories of the entire world to allow the new Trevor to embark upon a life on Earth-One. The Hippolytas of both universes used a Magic Sphere, which could peer into the past and future. In 1985, the Crisis on Infinite Earths miniseries revised DC Comics history and combined the multiple Earths into one world. The modern version of Hippolyta would combine elements of her earlier incarnations and take on greater importance in the series. Hippolyta was a daughter of Ares and a former Queen of the Amazons. When Heracles sought ought her girdle as part of his 9th labour, she willingly gave it to him. Hippolyta is the Classical Age hero for Poseidon. She wields a bow. Hippolyta is the Classical Age archer Hero for Poseidon in Age of Mythology. "Hippolyte, Wild-Eyed Queen of the Amazons" was later listed as one of Hercules' "Twelve Labors" by Salmoneus in an exaggeration of his life story. Hippolyta would go on to marry King Theseus of Athens, leaving the Amazons to become Queen of Athens and giving birth to Theseus' heir, Prince Hippolytus. She aided Xena and Gabrielle in taking back the Palace of Athens after Mesmer put Theseus into a deep sleep.. Hippolyta appears in the myth of Heracles. Fearing that Hippolyta had betrayed him, Heracles kisses her for about two minutes then hastily killed her, ripped the girdle from her lifeless body, and set sail, narrowly escaping the raging warriors. An alternate story of Hippolyta's death involved her sister, Penthesilea. Penthesilea had killed Hippolyta with a spear by accident when they were hunting deer; this accident caused Penthesilea so much grief that she wished only to die, but, as a warrior and an Amazon, she had to do so honorably and in battle. She therefore was easily convinced to join in the Trojan War, fighting on the side of Troy's defenders, where she was killed by Achilles, who almost immediately afterward regretted doing so. Hippolyta is the Queen of the Amazons, and mother of Diana. __TOC__
