Samuel Beckett was een bekende menselijke artiest die romans en gedichten schreef met een pessimistische ondertoon. Benjamin Sisko refereerde in 2370 aan Beckett, tezamen met Vincent Van Gogh en Y'Raka, als een voorbeeld van pessimistische artiesten die waardevolle werken gemaakt hadden. In tegenstelling hiertoe beschreef Gideon Seyetik deze werken als "zwart en deprimerend". (DS9: "Second Sight") Samuel Beckett (1906 – 1989) was an Irish writer and poet. When Gideon Seyetik commented that "nothing of any worth was ever created by a pessimist", Benjamin Sisko cited Beckett, Vincent van Gogh and Y'Raka as examples of people who Sisko "wouldn't exactly call them optimists". Seyetik responded by describing the three's works as "dreary, dark and depressing. (DS9 episode: "Second Sight") Samuel Beckett was a 20th century Irish playwright, author, and poet. In 2370, Benjamin Sisko referred to Beckett, along with similarly-natured Vincent van Gogh and Y'Raka, as an example of pessimistic artists who created something of great worth. Contrary to this view, Gideon Seyetik described their works as "dreary, dark and depressing". (DS9: "Second Sight") Apart from some French-language poems, written late in Beckett's life that remained untranslated into English at the time of his death, Beckett translated all of his own works into his other language. He translated into French the works that he originally wrote in English and translated into English the works that he originally wrote in French himself. Beckett won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969.

Apart from some French-language poems, written late in Beckett's life that remained untranslated into English at the time of his death, Beckett translated all of his own works into his other language. He translated into French the works that he originally wrote in English and translated into English the works that he originally wrote in French himself. Beckett won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1969. Samuel Beckett was een bekende menselijke artiest die romans en gedichten schreef met een pessimistische ondertoon. Benjamin Sisko refereerde in 2370 aan Beckett, tezamen met Vincent Van Gogh en Y'Raka, als een voorbeeld van pessimistische artiesten die waardevolle werken gemaakt hadden. In tegenstelling hiertoe beschreef Gideon Seyetik deze werken als "zwart en deprimerend". (DS9: "Second Sight") Samuel Beckett (1906 – 1989) was an Irish writer and poet. When Gideon Seyetik commented that "nothing of any worth was ever created by a pessimist", Benjamin Sisko cited Beckett, Vincent van Gogh and Y'Raka as examples of people who Sisko "wouldn't exactly call them optimists". Seyetik responded by describing the three's works as "dreary, dark and depressing. (DS9 episode: "Second Sight") When a writer was crossing Vulcan's Forge and found it difficult, he remembered Beckett's words "I can't go on; I must go on; I will go on" in an effort to continue his journey. (ST - New Worlds, New Civilizations short story: "Tempered by the Forge") Samuel Beckett was a 20th century Irish playwright, author, and poet. (DS9: "Second Sight") Ira Steven Behr is a reader of Beckett and was inspired by Waiting for Godot when writing "The Ascent" . (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, p 400) In Behr's The Ferengi Rules of Acquisition, Behr jokes that his "proudest moment in show business came when he was chosen to collaborate with Samuel Beckett on a Broadway musical of the film Rocky".
