The sands of Qalia have seen the rise and fall of many ambitious empires. Intrepid adventurers tell of fantastic ruins that stand as silent witness to the power and knowledge of the ancient Qalians. The Mordebi and Qaliathari empires have sunk beneath the seas and sands; but their memory and their accomplishments still resonate in the hearts of the nomads and city dwellers alike. The continent is one of extremes. Fierce sandstorms. Harsh sun-blasted deserts. Titanic mountain ranges that loom over the deserts. These define the landscape of Qalia. Lore (in English, science) is the knowhood of everything in the world about us, which has been learnt through overwatching and understanding how things work. Lore gainstands belief, in that nothing is taken to be true till it can be shown to so be. The Lorish Way of Making is the most widespread way of making lore. Candidate items requiring identification usually possess some sort of magical enhancement or property, but not always. Some books, potions and scrolls may also need to be identified using the Lore rating of the examining character. Cursed items are always very difficult to detect. The bard class, as part of their innate bardic lore background, are ideally suited for deciphering the hidden treasures that are unearthed. To compare for a moment, "classic" D&D uses the Lore function (sometimes implemented as a character "skill") to help solve puzzles, determine the characteristics of creatures, discern the terrain or interact with NPCs through conversation, among many other uses. Until the day the Drakan grew tired of their role as simple stewards of the planet. A mentally and physically superior race to the Humans, and also the Sapiens, the Drakan proved a sobering test for the sentient species of Atreia as they grew increasingly violent, bent on conquering everything in their path. As the years dragged on and the Drakan's thirst for power grew stronger, the fertile pastures of Atreia were stained crimson with the blood of the dead. Entire species vanished under the cruel eyes of the Drakan; others were enslaved and used against the Humans, who stood as the only species on Atreia who fought valiantly against their new adversaries in hopes of stabilizing their way of life. The Drakan swelled in numbers in their campaign against the races of Atreia and they grew increasingly confident and prideful. Before long, the Drakan would turn their backs on their creator altogether and forge ahead as a completely autonomous race. Organized through a leadership caste of five Drakan – christened the Dragon Lords – the Drakan relinquished the name Aion bestowed on them and chose another, the Balaur. The awakening of the Balaur changed the course of Atreia forever. Sadly, the Humans offered little challenge for their cruel oppressors. The Balaur massacred thousands upon thousands of Humans as they fought to dominate the planet. The stage had been set for a battle that would literally tear Atreia apart… Once a medic and explorer for the Decepticon Empire before the Ark left, LORE had disappeared for several years right after the ship left. Originally he was presumed dead, but reappeared a millennium later, having searched most of known space for the Ark and turning up nothing. The use of the term stems from Blizzard's snippets of "lore" for many of the multiplayer maps in their Warcraft RTS games, although how much of it has a relationship to the main Warcraft universe storyline is unclear. In the time when darkness made up the universe, a group of dragons were born out of chaos. But the dragons yearned for more beyond their own kind. The leader of the dragons, Morgath, used his great power to create the earth, forests, oceans, and sky. In turn, the other dragons used their power to create new races to roam the land. This newly created world is known as Auratia. It is a magnificent and beautiful land, worthy of the great and powerful dragons and their kin. The dragons lived peacefully on Auratia for many millennia, until darkness began to creep back into Morgath's thoughts. Morgath began having visions of a terrible dragon – The Devourer. Morgath called a meeting with his most trusted partners: the silver dragon, Lysaia, and the black dragon, Kronos. Morgath, aware of his own mortality, instilled his wisdom to Lysaia and his strength to Kronos before he died. The silver dragon Lysaia set out right away to share his new-found wisdom among the remaining dragons. He believed that knowledge would save them from The Devourer. But Kronos had a different idea – he planned to build an army. The black dragon created a new species called The Osira, the first humans. Kronos believed that strength in overwhelming numbers would save the dragons. Time continued to pass, and the black and silver dragons aged. While Lysaia did so nobly, Kronos attempted to regain his lost youth through nefarious means. When Lysaia discovered this, he confronted his old friend the black dragon. During this confrontation, Lysaia realized his old friend was becoming The Devourer, the monster Morgath had warned them both about! The silver dragon had no choice – he summoned the rest of the dragons to take down Kronos. Unable to completely destroy his friend, they locked him away in Chaugnar, the deepest part of Auratia. Many dragons gave up their lives to bind the black dragon to Chaugnar and ensure the safety of Auratia. Even though he believed he'd prevented Morgath's prophecy, Lysaia was deeply saddened by the loss of his companion, and he went into hiding. The rest of the dragons, relieved by his actions to save Auratia, came to refer to him as "The Guardian." Lore is pieces of background information or story that you can find hidden throughout the game world. Every piece of Lore is associated with a Perk, though some Lore Perks are tied to more than one piece of Lore. Lore can be viewed in your Mission Journal under the Lore tab. The original concepts followed simple Dungeons and Dragons storytelling that was quite common in fantasy games at the time. However, due to the community nature of the game, Everquest's story quickly ballooned as the population swelled. The players became a part of Everquest's lore and tended to make a connection between it and their characters. PvP servers such as Vallon Zek and Tallon Zek developed their own names and slurs for those of the rival factions of player characters (Shorties, Darkies, and Lighties to name a few). In the ancient times, there was the Goddess Etain and the three races she created: the Dragons, the Nordein, and the Dumianas. The Goddess Etain found faults in the Nordien and cast them into the soil. In their arrogance, the Dumianas questioned the Etain's power and authority. The Goddess was weakened by their disbelief , and the Dumianas killed her. Her soul was torn in two. The death of the Goddess left Teos out of balance and unprotected. Other Gods sought to take over Teos and created monsters to invade and destroy. When the dust settled, there were two new Goddesses overseeing Teos. The Dragons hid themselves from the world. The remaining Dumianas were split into two factions; one for each Goddess. These two races, the Elves and the Vail, find themselves in constant conflict with each other. Age old tensions fuel their aggression. Soon after, the Humans joined forces with the Elves while the Nordein re-emerged as the "Deatheaters" and allied with the Vail creating two factions: The Alliance of Light and the Union of Fury.
