Pleione
rdfs:comment
Pleione was an Oceanid in Greek mythology, thus she was the daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. By Atlas, she was also the mother of the Pleiades; seven sisters named after their mother (Alcyone, Celaeno, Electra, Maia, Merope, Sterope and Taygete). Her other children were Hyas and the Hyades. Pleione is a senior officer of the crew Half Circle From Hell and a member of Notorious Fandango. Pleione is also one of the winners of the Design the Oceans Contest.[1] She designed Lima Island, on the Cerulean and Meridian oceans (as well as on the retired/merged oceans of Cobalt, Crimson, and Viridian). This genus is named after Pleione, mother of the Pleiades (in Greek mythology) and comprises about 20 species. Pleione may have been amongst the Epimelides who were the nymphs and protectors of sheep and other animals that live in flocks. The suspicion that she is one of the Epimelides is two fold. First her name means "to increase in number" which the Epimelides ensured did happen and second, her grandson Hermes was the god of animal husbandry (among many other things).
