Eliška Sokol
rdfs:comment
Eliška Sokol, an illegal Czech immigrant, is found murdered as "When the Bough Breaks" begins, and yet she remains a powerful presence throughout the episode. This motivated, even driven, young woman has set in motion a chain of events which lead not only to her murder, but to the reuniting of the remnants of her family. At first it seems to Beckett and Castle that either getting mixed up with the wrong crowd, because she lost her job and had to make her rent somehow, or her abusive ex-husband, another Czech by the name of Teodor Hájek, will account for Eliška's untimely demise.

However, little by little it becomes clear that they are following in the footsteps of another detective, the victim herself, who was obsessed with a particular group of little boys who are six years old. Castle and Beckett eventually discover that Eliška's son was born with Niemann-Pick disease, a fatal congenital condition which, in the case of the type A form, has a prognosis of roughly 18 months in most cases. Her son lived to be three, but on his passing Eliška could not bear to be with Teodor, as he reminded her too much of what she had lost. The couple divorced, and some time thereafter Eliška began to suspect that the child who died had not, in fact, been her genetic offspring. She got a job at the hospital where her son had been born, and where Dr. Cameron Talbot worked, and scoured the records to substantiate her hunch, and when she found the names of other boys born at the same time, she tracked them down and tried to acquire saliva samples for DNA testing. She eventually discovered that Dr. Talbot's son was, in fact, genetically hers, but by this point the doctor had become suspicious and confronted her, trying to buy her off. In the ensuing fight, Dr Talbot killed Eliška, and then made every effort to cover up his crimes.
