While great wizards can contemplate the most complex of thoughts, gods can think hundreds of thoughts at once; splitting their immortal intellect into hundreds of fragments, each able to work on separate problems, carry on conversations, and make use of their power. Gods don't see like mortals do. They see through their eyes, and the eyes of their ardent followers, and see the view from their temples and shrines and holy places. They listen through ears and holy symbols and blessed stones. Gods makes mistakes like mortals do. Gods are imperfect. This god was using a tiny fraction of their intelligence to wonder if they'd make an error. Through their manifold vision, they could see The Great Downward Engineering company catching their breath after slaying the demon lord Maphistal. Their skill was admirable, but not above the limits of what mortals could manage. No, as it stood they should be swept aside by the minions of Orcus. Except...except there was something off about them His vision was somehow obscured, as if something was seeking to hide the scene from him. Normally this would be a sign that there was a greater divine power in play, but he knew this wasn't the case. As a god, Orcus was below him, and none of the Valley gods had the power to obfuscate his sight like this. This was not the work of a god, but rather as if the adventurers had been stained by some raw divine power. \"What have you found? Or whom? What terror from the great beyond nestles within you?\" They couldn't even hear his voice. The glowed so brightly, but were also so dull he could barely see them, like lighthouses in a fog. He was not particularly concerned, only curious. He'd had a chance to kill them, and had chosen to play with them instead. Now they were something he couldn't fully comprehend, and he wondered if destroying them would have been the right choice. Given the choice, he'd prefer Orcus' plan would reach fruition. The demon lord wouldn't get far, of course. He'd swallow a few planets before he'd created enough of a disturbance that one of the greater gods would intervene. Their rampage would last a millenia at most, but it would be glorious to watch. He could feed off it for a while, as millions of souls go kicking and screaming into the Great Beyond. On the other hand, he didn't like Orcus. It was nothing about the demon lord's principles or divine portfolio, it was just Orcus himself that made his hands ball into fists. While millenia of bloodshed was tempting, seeing Orcus taken down a peg also had an appeal. Returning his mind to his immortal body, he stirred and rolled his shoulders, before reaching his mind out to another. \"I need to borrow one of your toys.\" The request was granted instantly. The other could feel his thoughts, and knew what he intended. He watched as the planar energy at his feet congealed into the form of a human in a white robe, atop a white horse. Seething blue flame burned in its eye sockets. \"The Great Downward adventurers plan to assault the last bastion of Orcus. I know you're familiar with both. I will require you to attend the battle\" The daemon though, then spoke in a calm voice \"My Lord Szuriel, for which side do I fight?\" Szuriel laughed, a deep sonorous sound that shook the walls of his chamber. \"My child, I leave that up to you.\""@en , "Apotheosis was the eighteenth episode of the first season of Caprica and the eighteenth and last produced hour of the series.
