Weasley would later join Potter as his partner and the duo would serve the Department of Magical Law Enforcement for a decade. During this time Potter became acquainted with Elise Fleamont, a notorious adventuress and thief; the two became romantically linked after a case involving the Bulgarian Minister for Magic. After their largest case with the DMLE involving the hunt for Lord Darius Travers, a dark wizard and member of the Wizengamot who attempted to overthrow the Ministry and conquer Muggle Britain, William and Elise married. Potter was convinced that Lord Travis was being played behind the scenes and searched for years to uncover the identity of the one he called the \"puppeteer\". However, he was convinced to abandon his search by Elise in order to focus on his relationship with their son, Henry. In 1889, Potter and Weasley would be dragged into a case involving the puppeteer when a string of mysterious deaths were linked by William and the Ministry tasked the two with hunting the man down. Their trail led them to Arthur Conan, a professor at the European Magical University and acclaimed author. Although Potter confronted Conan, he had no evidence in order to lock him up in Azkaban, so he eluded the pair. Subsequently, William's wife succumbed to Dragon Pox, which drove him into deep depression. In 1891, Potter and Weasley prevented the outbreak of a war between the magical communities of Europe by intercepting an assassin sent by Conan. During this case, he became acquainted with a French Romani woman, Renee Hearne, whom he developed romantic feelings for. After aiding Hearne in stopping the assassination attempt on the French Ministry's ambassador, which was being perpetrated by her brother, Potter and Hearne began a relationship. William and Renee married in 1893 and had a son, Charlus. News of his marriage was thankfully well-received by his eldest son, Henry; he would bond well with his new stepmother. Potter lived in retirement in Wales with his family for decades before the outbreak of violence and terror across magical Europe unknowingly perpetrated by Gellert Grindelwald. Potter was called in by the Ministry to identify the terrorist responsible. When he traced the symbol and trail to Grindelwald, the International Confederation of Wizards created a task force of Hit Wizards to track him down. Potter became part of the force, which consisted of fifteen of some of the best wizards in the magical world; two of them happened to be distant relatives of his, Lincoln and Lazarus Potter, who were American and Australian respectively."@en .
