Report

If you've seen a player breaking the rules, and you wish to report it, simply follow the instructions in this guide! The first important step is to make sure you have solid evidence. Screenshots may not be enough; for scams, you need to have a video for proof! Please make sure you have evidence and are not making wild claims. If you are having trouble with the links, the sections you need to go to look like this on the forums. You can report another player to the GM team with the /report chat command. Simply type /report <name></name> into the chat. This dialog will pop up: Below the options, you can read an explanation and a warning pertaining to the option you checked. These are as follows: The Report is a key item in Dead Rising 3. It can only be obtained through Smartglass. While Nick is going through Brad Park's stuff during Person of Interest, he finds this report, which talks about a plan, called the "Ultimate Solution", to take care of the illegal problem. However, all of the details regarding what the Ultimate Solution actually entails is blacked out. Jamie claims that this solution is to use a supply of poisonous Zombrex to wipe out the illegals, but Brad reveals that it was actually a plan to find a cure for the illegals. However, he signs it up as a pipe dream. The report tab forwards you to the report forum page. This allows you to report multi-accounters, bashing, and cheaters. To whom it may concern, We desperately request information. What is the status of the resistance and the threats towards Priffdinas? Many believe the city lost, but the truth is that most of it was reverted to crystal seed form long ago. With the fear of impending attacks from the east and the Dark Lord, many elders sacrificed what power they had to revert the city. The passage is ancient – it is untraveled in many years and there is a high risk that it may collapse – but that the link is once again present is a good sign and worthy of this risk. ~Iestin Personal Mission Log Transcription - Gage Blackwood - ID 242232-448 7/28/2329, 4:26 PM "For Ihe past few jumps. I've been experiencing a vague di~ sort of feeling when I time travel. It's... [pause| it's almost likesomp~ something hovering just beyond the reach of my consciousness, like a word on the lip of my tongue. And then the feeling goes away as soon as I get to where I'm going. I've never heard of anyone experiencing this before, so I'm afraid that I might be developing some new kind of time travel disease, or maybe a sensitivity to it. Not that I'm surprised; no one's ever proven that time travel's entirely safe. WE'RE the guinea pigs. [sigh] Well, whatever it is, I can only hope that it doesn't get any worse. If it does, I'll have to let Chalmen know." Simply click on the pirate themselves, or their name in Chat or your Hearties menu. Then, in their Pirate Profile - click Moderation and Report. The game will prompt for what type of problem the pirate is causing. You can choose Foul Language, Sharing/Requesting Personal Info, Rude or Mean Behavior or Bad Name for the report. Once a report is sent, an administrator will investigate the pirate's behavior and decide what action to take. Sadly, since there is no space for comments, Report doesn't always work on action. After a report has been issued, that pirate will automatically be Ignored. If someone is bothering you or doing something else that he or she should not do here, please report the behavior. 1. * contact one (or more) of the administrators 2. * describe what happened There is a saying that “the root of education is bitter but the fruit is always sweet.” This statement was more effective back in early 70s and 80s, and before that. The revolution of technology offered humans more convenient and efficient ways to learn. The birth of Wiki in the market is considered to be one of the easy ways of collaborative working. Topic of the final report The topic of the final report is Wiki and is divided into two main subjects: The research and the sample application. SAMPLE LESSONS (Massimo - write description of sample applications) CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS A report was a written, visual, or oral account to communicate the status or outcome of a situation to others. After the situation, reports were typically placed in a computer file or record for later reference. Logs were similar to reports, but were generally recorded for posterity instead of primarily for dissemination to and usage by others. Among the duties of a yeoman was bringing reports to the captain as did yeoman J.M. Colt in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage" ) Ship mission and assignment records were maintained by a records officer aboard the USS Enterprise. (TOS: "Court Martial" ) "Report" is a song by Marvyanaka-P that is based off of the show Steven Universe on Cartoon Network. It is inspired by the episode "When It Rains" and comes from the character Peridot's point of view. A report is Shark walks into the security complex, in his hand he holds a print out of a report that he wants to show to Xaaron and inquire about it. Spotting the golden mech, he walks over and salutes. "Permission to speak freely." Xaaron hmms, he had been looking at a tactical display, but now he turns to look at Shark as he is approached, "Granted, Shark. What's on your mind? It's obviously something fairly serious." Xaaron nods, "Yes, I would. Despite the obvious risks involved. I would in fact be willing to speak with them alone, if it were necessary." Shark smirks to that, "Consider it dropped." Report is a paper note in Fallout 4. It is a note written by McDonough, Diamond City's mayor. Procedural Addendum: It has come to the Good Master's attention that a number of acolytes are dabbling in Chaos Magic. While this isn't forbidden... it is required that you clean up any mess that may result from its chaotic effects. A report is a written or verbal account of a situation which has occurred, typically placed in a computer file or record for later reference. Special types of reports are referred to as logs. Aboard Federation starships during the 23rd century, ship mission and assignment records were maintained by a records officer. (TOS episode: "Court Martial") Report is a feature available exclusively in CF Vietnam and on the new CF SEA, allowing players to report hacks and illegal activities using in-game form. During a match, players can access Pause menu then choose "Report" to report a cheating player within the room. The menu then list all players in room to choose (Both BL and GR), a drop-down menu to choose Reporting reason (Hacking, Cursing/swearing, Server crashing...), and a small info box to enter additional info. Clcking Confirm will send a messenger to the GM center, so they can look into reported player's log to see if there is any suspicious activities. I am writing to say that my roblox age is wrong i was meant to put 1998 not 2005 can you pleas change it as its making me angry that safe chat id on and i have lot of jobs that get hashtag out Yours sincerely tingedcresant8(thats my robloxe name to.)

This report is carried by a faithful messenger who is stationed watching an ancient route of light between the temple and the under-city. We have recently noticed this link has been made stronger, as if the temple is active and safe once more. The passage is ancient – it is untraveled in many years and there is a high risk that it may collapse – but that the link is once again present is a good sign and worthy of this risk. With all hopes I wish this message finds you hands. With this link returned, hope has returned also. The time has come to rid ourselves of the remaining threats to our once great city, raise it from the ground once more and restore it to its former glory ~Iestin A report is a written or verbal account of a situation which has occurred, typically placed in a computer file or record for later reference. Special types of reports are referred to as logs. Aboard Federation starships during the 23rd century, ship mission and assignment records were maintained by a records officer. (TOS episode: "Court Martial") I am writing to say that my roblox age is wrong i was meant to put 1998 not 2005 can you pleas change it as its making me angry that safe chat id on and i have lot of jobs that get hashtag out Yours sincerely tingedcresant8(thats my robloxe name to.) The report tab forwards you to the report forum page. This allows you to report multi-accounters, bashing, and cheaters. Simply click on the pirate themselves, or their name in Chat or your Hearties menu. * If you abuse this power you can get banned for it. Many players do not believe this to be true and overuse the feature for ridiculous reasons. For example, you can't report someone for not helping you with a quest. * If the player that you report is a pirate friend, or player friend, they will automatically be deleted from your friends list. Shark walks into the security complex, in his hand he holds a print out of a report that he wants to show to Xaaron and inquire about it. Spotting the golden mech, he walks over and salutes. "Permission to speak freely." Xaaron hmms, he had been looking at a tactical display, but now he turns to look at Shark as he is approached, "Granted, Shark. What's on your mind? It's obviously something fairly serious." Shark raises his hand and offers the print out of the report, "I was looking through some old reports, just trying to learn from historical battle accounts and that sort of thing, this particular one I'm curious about. Thought maybe you could shed some light on it." Xaaron hmms, looking at the report carefully, "This happened some time ago. We found out about a facility where transformers were being subjected to some truly horrifying experiments, so a team was sent in to rescue as many as possible. The Decepticons arrived while the team was still there. It was an extremely.. messy situation. " Shark inclines his head, "Okay so you were around when this happened? This sort of report is a little hard to swallow. Like why didn't we take care of the kidnapping before it got out of hand... why it take so long to find where they had them.. that sort of thing." Xaaron sighs, "We discovered it by chance, Shark. We almost didn't find out about it at all. I was on the other side of Cybertron at the time. I only know what was reported to me about it at the time, and the aftermath was a real mess. " Shark hmms and says, "All right. I understand that. So you didn't have direct contact, just knew it occurred." he seems to be thinking that over, "Did seem like a mess all right. So many bodies to deal with.. bet it gave the scientists something to look into though.. I mean figuring out how those mechs and femmes died would have been of some interest..." Xaaron nods, "Yes, I imagine so. I don't think I have met any of the survivors. Something I would have liked to rectify. from how I understand things, the Decepticons used it as very strong propaganda against us, claiming that we had been the ones running the facility. We were not, of course." Shark inclines his head, now he has an in he may be able to use. "Ah.. well I may be able to get you a name or two of the survivors then Xaaron. After all you would be more believable than I would. Thing is, what if one of those survivors is a Con now.. thinking that we were the ones that experimented on him or her.. would take more than this report to convince him or her of our innocence." Xaaron nods, "It certainly would, Shark. And that will likely prove to be extremely difficult. After all, it's not like we have not been involved in some.. awkward experimentation ourselves in the past. It was perhaps a foolish idea on my part to start the Triple changer program." Shark cocks his head to that, "Hey now, don't go after my heritage there pops." he notes with a little grin, then asks seriously, "Still though, would you want to talk to a survivor if they were a Con? Try to convince him or her that it wasn't us that experimented on them but the Cons?" Xaaron nods, "Yes, I would. Despite the obvious risks involved. I would in fact be willing to speak with them alone, if it were necessary." Shark smiles, "Good to know. I'll see what I can do to find some names for you. Already have some feelers out on this report as it is.. " Xaaron nods, "Ok Shark. One thing though, do not tell Optimus I am going to meet them alone." Shark raises a hand and says, "I wouldn't. I know that such things can be delicate enough. Besides, you are your own mech and don't need some young Prime telling what you cannot do eh?" Xaaron chuckles, "exactly. It's not like even the Decepticons are going to try and kill me. I’m too old." Shark hehs softly, "Kill you, no. Kidnap you though, possibly. I'll let you know if I get some names for you that aren't on the report already. I may have to resort to a little bribery to get them though, especially since the neutrals can be a little skittish about any intel they have on the Cons." Xaaron nods, and he hmms, "If you need to, think nothing of dropping my name, Shark." Shark smirks to that, "Consider it dropped." Xaaron chuckles, "You know what I mean. Generally mechs tend to be willing to help me." Shark hmms, "Point taken. I'll get rolling on that during my free time. I'll need to check in with my feelers as it is anyway." he notes, "Thanks for being willing to help out on it." Xaaron nods, "No problem, Shark." Shark puts the report into subspace, "I'll let you get back to your important work here. Will be in touch when I get any names for you and possible ways to contact those names." Xaaron nods, "Thank you Shark. Take care of yourself though. Do not get yourself in trouble with your investigations if you can help it." Shark chuckles, "Ah but that's my middle name." he states, "But I'll do my best." then he turns to head out, "If I think of anything else I need to know, I'll radio you." The Report is a key item in Dead Rising 3. You can report another player to the GM team with the /report chat command. Simply type /report <name></name> into the chat. This dialog will pop up: Below the options, you can read an explanation and a warning pertaining to the option you checked. These are as follows: If someone is bothering you or doing something else that he or she should not do here, please report the behavior. 1. * contact one (or more) of the administrators 2. * describe what happened If you've seen a player breaking the rules, and you wish to report it, simply follow the instructions in this guide! The first important step is to make sure you have solid evidence. Screenshots may not be enough; for scams, you need to have a video for proof! Please make sure you have evidence and are not making wild claims. 1. * The first step towards reporting a player is by going on the forums and creating account. If you already have a forums account, you can skip this step. If not, go to this webpage and create an account. You need to put a correct email in, and navigate to your email account. You will receive a email from ArteroPk confirming that it is you. This is to prevent spam! Click the link and follow the instructions on the page. 2. * After you've registered your account, navigate to the Report a Player Template Page. 3. * Next, copy the template, and click to this page. Create a new thread, and make sure you title it properly (Reporting [Name]) You need to post your report with the template, so be sure to paste the template into the thread. 4. * Fill in the template with the correct information and substantial evidence. 5. * Post the thread, and let the staff to the rest! If you are having trouble with the links, the sections you need to go to look like this on the forums. Report is a feature available exclusively in CF Vietnam and on the new CF SEA, allowing players to report hacks and illegal activities using in-game form. As promising as it looks, this feature is not very useful due to the warning pop-up right at the start - if you file a false report, you will be blocked permanently. Many players don't even want to try even if they know well that someone is hacking - this is because anything can happen if the GM decides otherwise. Though very popular when it's first updated, Report feature is now obsoleted, as players tend to go directly to CF Vietnam forum to report hacks instead. "Report" is a song by Marvyanaka-P that is based off of the show Steven Universe on Cartoon Network. It is inspired by the episode "When It Rains" and comes from the character Peridot's point of view. Personal Mission Log Transcription - Gage Blackwood - ID 242232-448 7/28/2329, 4:26 PM "For Ihe past few jumps. If it does, I'll have to let Chalmen know." 8/15/2329, 9:47 AM "I don't understand it. The coordinates of the station were supposed to be accurate to within a millimetre. But somehow I just ended up floating in space where the station had been about AN HOUR earlier. Unless the location and velocity data were wrong, I don't know how it could have been so badly miscalculated - they said they took everything into account, down to the most negligible effects on it's velocity by any bodies within a thousand light years of it. I could see the station drifting out there, but I couldn't get to it; the suit doesn't have any kind of thrusters. [pause] TSA protocol says to scrap a mission if something unpredictable happens, but this is obviously just an error in calculation. I thinkg I'm going to go ahead and try to find a way to get to the station. But if I go into the TSA looking for a thruster, someone might wonder what's up. So it looks like I'll have to get creative". 8/15/2329, 11:14 AM "I came up with a pretty cheesy idea for propelling myself to the space station - I still can't believe it actually worked! Not that it matters. Even after getting in, I kept running into barriers. No oxygen, no gravity, jammed doors... And here's the kicker - I heard a voice. There shouldn't have been anyone there! Whoever it was saw me and told me to get off of the station. Actually, I'm not sure he saw me so much as detected my presence. But still, I had no choice; I had to abort. It's a miracle I didn't cause a ripple. Maybe because whoever it was died up there before coming into contact with another hyman being. But I can't help but think - what if it WAS Farnstein? Did he live longer than we believe? The station was obliterated. How could he have survived? [pause] Or could the stories be true? Might it have been an artificial life form that he created? I can't escape the irony - I went there to learn the truth, but the truth is what forced me away. [sigh] Maybe this is a sign that some things are meant to remain unknown." 9/1/2329, 2:33 PM "I don't know about myluck these days. It happened AGAIN. When I got to Gaillard, there was someone standing RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME looking out over the lower wall! He spun around the second he heard the Displacement Effect. There wasn't a thing I could do. But before he could even draw his sword, an arrow came over the wall and hit him in the back. Lucky for me, I guess; he would have killed me. Can you imagine the distortion THAT would have caused? It should have created a huge one as it was; I guess we're just damn lucky and the arrow would have hit him anyway. [pause] I don't get it; the jump locations are supposed to be scanned with a fine-toothed comb. Howe could they have not noticed? I'd like to hear their explanation for this one. And then, and THEN I go to watch Philippe Augustus' men climbing up through the garderobe, and when I get there, all I see is the grappling hook they left behind. The whole reason I was sent there was to document how the castle fell, and they got me there too late for it! I know it's difficult to distill accurate information from historical accounts, but this is TWICE in as many missions. I guess I'm going to have to have a little talk with the guys in Research before I end up materializing in the middle of a Shriners convention." 9/6/2329, 2:15PM "On my last jump, the strange feeling that I've been experiencing during time travel became a little more tangible. I became aware of a faint, almost imperceptible, ghost image of my Jumpsuit floating slightly out of phase with myself. I'm assuming it's a glitch in the suit's circuitry. The Time Phase Synchronizer's probably malfunctioning. That should worry me, but I'm actually relieved - at least now I know there's nothing wrong with me. I'm going to have Bill run a diagnostic on my suit tomorrow." A report was a written, visual, or oral account to communicate the status or outcome of a situation to others. (TOS: "Court Martial" ) Aamin Marritza (while posing as Gul Darhe'el) prided himself on not losing a single report when he was a file clerk at Gallitep. He called his own computer filing system a "masterpiece of meticulous exactitude." (DS9: "Duet") After the failed assassination attempt on Vedek Bareil Antos by Neela, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Major Kira Nerys wrote a report for Starfleet. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets") Gul Evek had a lengthy report to write after the incident on Dorvan V. (TNG: "Journey's End" ) After Gowron assumed direct control of the Klingon Defense Forces in late 2375, he told Martok he should be happy - he would no longer have to file reports. (DS9: "When It Rains...") There is a saying that “the root of education is bitter but the fruit is always sweet.” This statement was more effective back in early 70s and 80s, and before that. The revolution of technology offered humans more convenient and efficient ways to learn. The birth of Wiki in the market is considered to be one of the easy ways of collaborative working. Topic of the final report The topic of the final report is Wiki and is divided into two main subjects: The research and the sample application. Research The research covers and explains in detail WIKI’s History, its Creator, how technology works, its ownership, its common uses, its uncommon uses, and how it works. Sample application The sample application shows how Wiki can be applied and what advantages it yields. The sample application turned out to be a very efficient and interesting method of group collaboration. Since group work is associated with communication and editing problems, the sample application we created demonstrates how such hassle can be avoided. The activities the project involved The first activity of the project can be described in one simple sentence: to get as much information as possible. This was achieved through interviews with various experts such as librarian and university professors. Also the online databases helped us in performing the research. One of these websites that turned out to be an extremely helpful source was the Lexis-Nexis online database found in the library portal website. This database contains journals and magazines from the past twenty to thirty years. Moreover, the search engine of Lexis-Nexis can be applied to very specific topics such as Wiki’s ownership or other interesting subjects. Group members worked on the project and their respective tasks Cervone Massimo His main responsibility within the group was to lead the group in the most effective and responsible way possible. Massimo also took part in the research of Wiki and the creation of the sample application on science covering the main topic of statics within mechanics. He also edited whatever sample application he received from the other members of the group to create the Wiki website at . Massimo also revised the Introduction written by Matin in terms of grammar and formatting style. Moreover, he was involved in researching and wroting about Wiki’s creator and how technology works. Farrell Renaldo For Part1, Renaldo’s responsible was to write about Wiki’s history and its ownership to be placed in the introduction. For Part2, he created the sample application for Liberal Arts. His main topic was Jewish studies taking Babylonian Jerusalem Talmud as a source and reference. Babylonian Jerusalem Talmud is part of Jewish Bible, thus, having the Jewish religious organization as the author. Lendhey Matin Matin proofed to be also a very responsible candidate within the group providing interesting and important sources of information. As mentioned in the proposal, his main searching methods were based on the usage of Google search engine. Obviously, to avoid plagiarism all groups members helped Matin in formulating sentences in own words without using some else’s ideas. Matin also created a sample application in Mathematics specifically Integration. Okobiah Karo Karo also demonstrated responsibility and professionalism in researching Wiki. He contacted several professors at Colleges and Universities located in New York and Oregon. For instance, at the University of Illinois Karo contacted a Professor that successfully implemented Wiki for his classroom setting. Indeed, Karo’s contribution to the research has been valuable to all members of the group. As far as the second part of the project, Karo created a sample application in Engineering. Within Engineering, he chose to show how the topic of Thermodynamics can implemented in a Wiki application. Questions being answered in this project The questions being answered in this project are the following: Questions regarding Wiki * What is Wiki? * Who is Wiki’s Creator? * How does the technology work in implementing Wiki? * Who can be regarded as the owner of Wiki? * What are Wiki’s common uses? * What are Wiki’s uncommon uses? * How does Wiki specifically work? * How can Wiki be implemented? * How does a sample application look like? * Is Wiki safe to use? * Who worked on this project? * What were each individual’s responsibilities within the group? * What techniques were used to perform the research? * What kinds of sample classes were created? * What was the outcome of the research and the sample application? METHODS This project has two main parts. The first part of the report discusses the technology, history, and creator, common and uncommon uses of Wiki while the second part describes the application Wiki technology in the creation of sample classes. We accorded our methods in line with the two main tasks of the project. Task 1: Researching the technology, history and creator and standard uses of Wiki For this task, we focused mainly on researching the City College Library database and conducting interviews with Professors and students. Research in the library In conducting our research using the library database we used the Lexis-Nexis database and the Google search engine. We decided to use these two methods of research because Wiki is a relatively new technology and most of the information we required are in journals and magazine articles. Lexis-Nexis is very extensive with full texts magazine articles and journals. The only book we found on Wiki is “The Wiki way: Quick collaboration on the Web” by Leuf, B. & Cunningham, W. (creator of Wiki). Cervone Massimo and Farrell Renaldo worked together and researched on the technology, history and creator of Wiki. They conducted the research and readings together during meeting times – on Thursdays at 11am- 2pm. They found most articles from the Lexis-Nexis database and Google search engine. Google??? turned out to be very useful in finding the information on Wiki’s ownership and its history. Most of the information of the creator and technology of Wiki was found on Lexis-Nexis. Lendhey and Okobiah worked together and researched on the standard and instructional uses of Wiki, and its possible future. Some part of the research was also done in the City College library using the Lexis Nexis database. This research was also conducted during meeting times on Thursdays, 11am – 2pm. They also consulted various reviews to determine the possible future of Wiki and its use by various such as companies and institutions. To complete this part of the first task, they conducted interviews to determine the immediate attitude of the City College Community to the use of Wiki technology. Interviews and Surveys In completing the research for the standard uses and possible future of Wiki, Lendhey and Okobiah interviewed Dr. Barnet on March 9th,2006 at 12:00 noon to learn his point of view of the use of Wiki for instructional and informational purposes. After we interviewed him, we decided to interview other people, especially students in order to have a balanced view of the attitudes of the City College community towards the use of Wiki technology. Cervone interviewed a friend and Okobiah interviewed a student at City College of New York. Wendy Amsellen was interviewed by Ferrell Renaldo on Monday, 20th, 2006 at 3:15pm. We also wanted to interview two professors at University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Illinois, Chicago, who have implementations of Wiki for instructional uses. We were unable to get in touch with the professors due to conflicting schedules. However we as a group interviewed Professor Dave Sullivan at the Oregon State University on Tuesday March 21, 2003 . Task 2: Creating Sample Application classes in required subject areas. This task required creating sample application classes in four subject areas: * A sample instructional in Integration for the Mathematics subject area * A sample instructional in Statics (Mechanics) for the Science subject area * A sample background application in Jewish Studies –Heretics and believers for the Liberal Arts subject area * A sample background application in thermodynamics for the Engineering subject area. FINDINGS Part 1 – Research What is Wiki? Wiki is a type of website based on writing communities in which groups and communities can easily exchange information on particular topics. Anyone wanting to use Wiki does not necessarily need programming skills because Wiki works like a word document in a simplified form. It can be read just like any other website. Furthermore, a big advantage about Wiki is that it stores the old documents. For instance, if a user decides to modify the content of a document, Wiki will not erase the old document but store it for future references. If anyone erases the entire content, a safely stored document can be easily retrieved. Wiki’s History The history of Wiki starts with the name Wiki Wiki. Wiki Wiki in its original Hawaiian tongue means very fast or very quick. The Wiki Wiki technology or Wiki for short allows any individual to quickly add, delete or revise any posted material. Wiki Wiki Web was the name of the first Wiki, it was created by Ward Cunningham in 1994, and published on the world wide web on March 25th, 1995. From Wiki’s inception in 1995 it was seen as the future of collaborative writing and direct communication within and without an organization, amongst researchers, students, and writer of mass media. For instance in January of 2001, a Wiki electronic encyclopedia was established, and the name of this online encyclopedia is Wikipedia. Wikipedia contains over three million articles in various languages, and approximately a third of which is in English. In December 2002, the company Social Text developed and launched the first commercial Wiki software which allowed any one person or Business to use Wiki technology for the purpose of collaborative writing. In addition, by the end of 2004, downloads of Wiki software such as Media Wiki and T1 Wiki, grew to over one million. Today many companies and the mass media use Wiki as their sole means of collaborative writing. Wiki’s Creator Ward Cunningham was the first person to create a website in which everyone who visited the website had the ability to edit and add new material to it. Since those who visit these Wiki sites have the ability to do corrections, the websites will always be accurate and up-to-date with the least amount of errors. Indeed, Ward Cunningham is the father and the creator of Wiki and has an innovation of community-oriented computing. How technology works Since everyone is involved in the webpage, teamwork is highly facilitated. Working together in a group sharing information, documents, and other important paperwork, is not an easy task. The way Wiki’s technology works is that the entire group working on a certain project can edit and add important information to it. The advantage lies in the fact that no webmaster is needed to create a website. It is like working in a virtual office room without being literally present. Comparing conventional websites to this new technology, Wikis can be up-to-dated more often then regular websites, thus, making the content newer then regular websites. The reason is because it is easier and more convenient to make corrections and add new material to it. You do not need call an HTML expert to modify the content but everyone such can put hand on it. Wiki’s Ownership From the research, I could not find a clear understanding of who owns the Wiki technology. However the Wiki technology seems to be protected by copy write laws, Trademark, patent etc. It seems plausible to conclude that since Cunningham was the creator of Wiki, he owns the patent and copy write of Wiki, and frames it in such a way that allows others to use the Wiki technology and create similar technology for it. Companies such as Social Text, Confluence, and JBoss, commercially produce Wiki softwares. Each company seems to have their own set of copy write laws, trademarks, and patent that protects its software and govern its uses. They are literally hundreds of web sites that are able to create, host, or download Wiki web pages. For instance, Jotspot, Wiki cities, Wiki farms, and riters offer free Wiki hosting, and downloads; however, the Wiki software these websites used maybe owned by a company who protects the software through copy write laws, trademark or patent. Common uses of Wiki Common Wiki uses are: brain storming, developing frequently asked questions with responses, collaborative working environment, planning, scheduling, family histories, course material and project. This is why Wiki is gaining recognition especially in the educational field. Collaborative work between students and teachers is now becoming much easier thanks to the implementation of Wiki. Some examples are students who use Wiki to collaborate on a group report, compile data, or share the results of their research. Professors can make use of Wiki to organize a course and Wiki can serve as part of each person’s course website. Uncommon uses of Wiki One uncommon uses of Wiki is the implementation of videos while editing the web content even though it is possible. Usually Pod casting is responsible for audio and video broadcasting. This method of using video in Wiki is called video LAN and is used to play media files and streams. How it works The way Wiki works, is that most of its engines are free and need to be connected with a databases to store the documents and information. Obviously, every document or even character occupies a memory in the CPU of the Computer. Using a conventional website requires knowledge and intelligence to maintain its structure and correctness. However, when it comes to maintain a Wiki type of website, little technical skills are required such as understanding codes deriving from hypertext markup languages. If someone has these kinds of knowledge, one can decorate and format Wiki websites to make them more attractive for the user. SAMPLE LESSONS (Massimo - write description of sample applications) CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Wiki has clear potential in distance education, allowing users to brainstorm ideas with an unlimited number of people around the world, and to collaborate with them in exchanging files and developing WebPages. It is believed that an increasing number of educators will encourage their students to develop the simple online editing and sharing skills that makes Wiki useful. In addition, Wiki easily creates simple website that allows students to spend more time on the contents of the site instead of trying to learn how to make one. In the project development, teachers see what students are doing and they help them if students are off the track. Moreover, teachers comment on the project from time to time rather then to present their comments on the final draft. Even though there are various positive things to talk about Wiki, there are several disadvantages. In an interview conducted by Cervone Massimo, Ferrell Renaldo, Lendhey Matin and Okobiah Karo on March 9, 2006 with Professor Barnet – Librarian for the Science Library and City College of New York, we as a group came to the conclusion that Wiki is not as famous as originally believed. In fact, we asked Professor Barnet whether he uses Wiki or not and if he will ever use it in future? The answer was that he never used Wiki before admitting even that he did not know much about Wiki. An interesting point Doctor Barnet mentioned was the issue with the safety of Wiki. Having the ability and power to manipulate information, a persona can practically write any information possible. This information can be wrong. Dr. Barnet added that he found an article on the website two months ago containing offensive language; absolutely inappropriate for readers. Moreover, terrorists may take advantage of Wiki websites to edit information that can lead to enormous tragedies for our society. One example of such misuse of Wiki is to share information on how to create a bomb and where to get the material. Hopefully this will never happen! Furthermore, he supported his opinion by presenting one more behavior by user. He said, NASA scientists had posted a really good article on the supernova explosion and few weeks later someone deleted it before many had chance to read it. Many universities and schools like university of Illinois uses Wiki to help students understand several courses like Biology 414/614 and Psychology 055/111. However, Dr. Barnet does not support the idea of using Wiki for City College of New York. Wiki can be made better if it has some kind of security or protection such as a password. The password should then be shared only within the group composed by individuals collaborating on specific tasks. This is the most important recommendation about Wiki one could suggest .
