Metallica is a western european religion founded in the 80s, but claims to be an oriental religion founded on philosophy in the 1780s. Their followers are known for being pointlessly vitriolic towards followers of other religion whilst not realising that their religion sucks. BULLSHIT METALLICA IS THE BEST BAND EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles, California. The band's fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship placed them as one of the founding "big four" bands of thrash metal, alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Metallica was formed in 1981 when James Hetfield responded to an advertisement posted by drummer Lars Ulrich in a local newspaper. The band's current line-up includes founders Hetfield (vocals, rhythm guitar) and Ulrich (drums), longtime lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, and bassist Robert Trujillo, who joined the band in 2003. Lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, who went on to found Megadeth, bassists Ron McGovney (demos only), Cliff Burton (the first three records, died in 1986), and Jason Newsted (from 1987 to 2001) are former members of the band. Metallica is kick ass metal band way better than Disturbed, Godsmack and Ozzy (Sorry Ozzy)....the point is they kick ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOO! Metallica is an American heavy metal band that formed in 1981 in Los Angeles. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a local newspaper, Metallica's line-up has primarily consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, and lead guitarist Kirk Hammett, while going through a number of bassists. Currently, the spot is held by Robert Trujillo. Metallica is a North American heavy metal band from Los Angeles, California, which was formed in 1981. The band was initially formed when James Hetfield replied to an advertisement drummer Lars Ulrich posted in a local newspaper called the Recycler [1]. Metallica on yhdysvaltalainen metallimusiikkia soittava yhtye, jonka tyyli on vaihdellut thrash metalista lähes valtavirran rockiin asti. Yhtyeen perustivat James Hetfield (rytmikitara ja laulu) ja Lars Ulrich (rummut) 28. lokakuuta vuonna 1981. The band's original lineup consisted of James Hetfield on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Lars Ulrich on drums, Cliff Burton on bass, and Dave Mustaine on lead guitar. They played the L.A. club scene for awhile, but were despised for not being a glam metal act. Dave Mustaine was soon booted from the band and went on to form the also highly successful thrash metal band; Megadeth as revenge. Mustaine's replacement was Kirk "Wah-Wah" Hammett. Ulrich used Metallica for the name of his band. A second advertisement was placed in The Recycler for a position as lead guitarist. Dave Mustaine answered, and after seeing his expensive guitar equipment, Ulrich and Hetfield recruited him. In early 1982, Metallica recorded its first original song "Hit the Lights" for the Metal Massacre I compilation. Hetfield played bass on the song and Lloyd Grant was credited with a guitar solo. Released on June 14, 1982, early pressings of Metal Massacre I listed the band incorrectly as "Mettallica". When the band decided to continue, Jason Newsted was chosen to replace Burton; two years later, the band released the conceptually ambitious ...And Justice for All, which hit the Top Ten without any radio play and very little support from MTV. Its members consist of James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo. Some believe they helped pioneer (or even invented) the sub-genre of Thrash Metal. They have released numerous singles such as "Master of Puppets", "Enter Sandman", "One" and "Creeping Death". They were influenced by different rock bands, such as 70's hard rock acts like Black Sabbath and Budgie, NWOBHM acts like Diamond Head and hardcore punk bands like The Misfits and Discharge. Their latest studio release is 2016's Hardwired...To Self Destruct. Metallica are a world-renowned American metal band who proved that a band can in fact record an album when everything is going wrong for them, and the members are all sick of each other. Seeing how St. Anger turned out, however, it's safe to say that it's probably a good thing that Overbored never managed to release Illegal To Be Human. Founded when drummer Lars Ulrich posted an advertisement in a Los Angeles newspaper, Metallica's original line-up consisted of Ulrich, rhythm guitarist and vocalist James Hetfield, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine, and bassist Ron McGovney. McGovney and Mustaine were later ejected from the band, in favor of Cliff Burton and Kirk Hammett, respectively. The ejection of Mustaine has subsequently resulted in a feud between him and Metallica. Mustaine later went on to form the band Megadeth. In 1986, Metallica's tour bus skidded out of control, and Burton was crushed under the bus and was killed. Jason Newsted replaced him, although he left the band in 2001 and was replaced by Robert Trujillo in 2003. Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "Big Four" of the thrash metal genre alongside with Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax. The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community, and some critics say the 1986 release Master of Puppets is one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band rose to fame with its 1991 self-titled album Metallica, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Some critics and fans believed the band changed its musical direction to appeal to the mainstream audience. With the release of Load in 1996, Metallica distanced itself from earlier releases in what has been described as "an almost alternative [rock] approach", and the band faced accusations of "selling out". Metallica filed a lawsuit in 2000 against Napster for sharing the band's copyrighted material for free without the members' consent. A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release of St. Anger in 2003 disappointed some critics and fans with the exclusion of guitar solos, and the "steel-sounding" snare drum. A film titled Some Kind of Monster documented the recording process of St. Anger. Metallica has released eight studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, nine videos, and is working on a ninth studio album. The band has become one of the most commercially successful and influential musical acts. With over 100 million records sold worldwide, including 57 million in the United States alone, the band has won seven Grammy Awards, and has had four albums peak at number one on the Billboard 200. The band's 1991 album Metallica, has sold over 15 million copies, which makes it the 25th highest selling album in the United States. Metallica on yhdysvaltalainen metallimusiikkia soittava yhtye, jonka tyyli on vaihdellut thrash metalista lähes valtavirran rockiin asti. Yhtyeen perustivat James Hetfield (rytmikitara ja laulu) ja Lars Ulrich (rummut) 28. lokakuuta vuonna 1981. Nykyiseen kokoonpanoon kuuluvat lisäksi soolokitaristi Kirk Hammett sekä basisti Robert Trujillo. Metallica is a thrash and heavy metal band from California, founded by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. This band became famous worldwide around 1985 giving concerts to attendence of more than 60,000 people The band's original lineup consisted of James Hetfield on rhythm guitar and lead vocals, Lars Ulrich on drums, Cliff Burton on bass, and Dave Mustaine on lead guitar. With this release the band expanded its musical direction, resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience. The band has won nine Grammy Awards and five of its albums have consecutively debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The band's eponymous 1991 album has sold over 16 million copies in the United States, making it the best-selling album of the SoundScan Era. Metallica ranks as one of the most commercially successful bands of all time, having sold over 120 million records worldwide. Metallica has been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone, which ranked them 61st on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. As of December 2012, Metallica is the third best-selling music artist since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking sales in 1991, selling a total of 54.26 million albums in the United States alone. In 2012, Metallica formed the independent record label Blackened Recordings and took ownership of all of the band's albums and videos. The band is currently in production of its tenth studio album, slated for a 2015 release. Metallica is an American heavy metal band formed in 1981. James and Lars were friends and got the idea of forming a band in 1981 (though James had played in other low-profile bands before, such as a Rush tribute band). Dave Mustaine (who would go on to form Megadeth following his dismissal from the band) was the original guitarist, before getting kicked out in 1983 for being a chronic drug abuser and violent alcoholic, being replaced by Kirk, who played in fellow San Francisco thrash metal band Exodus at that time. The band's second bassist was Cliff Burton (succeeding Ron McGovney, who recorded a few demos with the band before their first official release) who was known for using heavy distortion on his instruments. In 1986, Cliff died as a resulted in a horrible tour bus accident in Sweden, during the tour to promote their then-recent album, Master of Puppets. Later, they recruited Jason Newsted (formerly from Flotsam and Jetsam) as the bassist for all subsequent recordings until 2002: ...And Justice For All, Metallica, Load, ReLoad, Garage, Inc. and S&M. Jason left before the start of the recording sessions on St. Anger to join Ozzy Osbourne's band in Ozzfest, and has since then become involved in a variety of projects, including a stint with Canadian industrial metal band Voivod. Robert Trujillo, a bassist who also played with Ozzy (as well as Suicidal Tendencies and its spin-off band Infectious Grooves), became the new bassist. Album Metallica (nazywany też Czarnym Albumem) został wydany w 1991 r. i do dziś pozostaje najpopularniejszym wydawnictwem zespołu zdobywając m.in. status diamentowej płyty w USA za sprzedanie płyty w nakładzie ponad 22 milionów egzemplarzy. W 2009 roku Metallica została wprowadzona do Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Metallica saavutti vahvan fanituen musiikkiyhteisössä ja kriitikkojen ylistyksen, muun muassa yhtyeen kolmatta albumia Master of Puppets (1986) kuvattiin maailman vaikutusvaltaisimmaksi "raskaan" trash metallin albumiksi. Tästä julkaisusta alkaen yhtye on laajentanut musiikillista suuntaustaan vetoamaan suurempaan yleisöön. Vuonna 2000 Metallica oli yksi yhtyeistä, jotka haastoivat Napsterin oikeuteen bändien tekijänoikeuslailla suojatun materiaalin jakamisesta ilman yhtyeiden lupaa. Ratkaisuun päästiin, ja Napsterista tuli maksullinen palvelu. Huolimatta debyytistään Billboard 200:n kärjessä, monet fanit vierastivat St. Anger -albumia, poikkeuksena kuitenkin kitarasoolot ja "teräkseltä kuulostava" virvelirumpu. Some Kind of Monster -niminen elokuva dokumentoi St. Angerin nauhoittamista ja bändin sisäisiä jännitteitä tänä aikana. Metallica on julkaissut yhdeksän studioalbumia, kolme live-albumia, 24 musiikkivideota ja 45 singleä. Yhtye on voittanut yhdeksän Grammy Award -palkintoa, ja viisi sen perättäistä albumia debytoi Billboard 200:n kärjessä tehden Metallicasta ensimmäisen yhtyeen, joka ylsi tähän saavutukseen, tosin myöhemmin Dave Matthews Band ylsi samaan. Bändin nimikkoalbumi Metallica myi yli 15 miljoonaa kappaletta Yhdysvalloissa ja yli 22 miljoonaa kappaletta maailmanlaajuisesti tehden siitä USA:n 25. myydyimmän albumin. Joulukuussa 2009 siitä tuli SoundScanin aikakauden parhaiten myynyt albumi. Yhtye on myynyt maailmanlaajuisesti yli 100 miljoonaa albumia uusimman albumin Death Magnetic julkaisuun asti. After releasing their masterpiece Master of Puppets in 1986, tragedy struck the band when their tour bus crashed while traveling in Sweden. Burton died in the accident. When the band decided to continue, Jason Newsted was chosen to replace Burton; two years later, the band released the conceptually ambitious ...And Justice for All, which hit the Top Ten without any radio play and very little support from MTV. But Metallica completely crossed over into the mainstream with 1991's Metallica, a self-titled effort that found the band trading in their long compositions for more concise song structures. Peppered with hits like "Wherever I May Roam" and "Enter Sandman", it resulted in a number one album that sold over seven million copies in the U.S. alone. To support the record, Metallica launched a long tour that kept the musicians on the road for nearly two years. The one, the only. Formed in the early '80s when aspiring Danish tennis player/drummer Lars Ulrich placed an ad in a Los Angeles newspaper, which, in one of those moments of synchronicity, was answered by singer/guitarist James Hetfield. With lead guitarist Dave Mustaine and bass guitar virtuoso Cliff Burton, Metallica was one of the pioneering bands of Thrash Metal, and is considered one of the "Big Four" of thrash, along with Anthrax, Slayer, and Megadeth (the last formed after guitarist Mustaine was kicked out of the band and replaced by Kirk Hammett, late of Exodus). In the heady days of The Eighties, they forged their way from being the supporting act at tiny club gigs to opening for and headlining stadium tours, with next to no support from radio. Their '86 album Master of Puppets was hailed by critics as a metal masterpiece, but on the subsequent tour, Burton was killed in a bus accident. Choosing to continue on in spite of their grief, they auditioned and hired Jason Newsted, an intense young musician who became the perennial "New Guy" and the butt of 14 long years of hazing, starting with being mixed out of the ...And Justice For All album entirely. It was with this album that the band first started getting accusations of "selling out", after they put out a music video for the song "One", something fans claimed they had promised in the past they'd never do. In The Nineties, the band moved away from thrash metal (according to Hammett, "Touring behind it, we realized that the general consensus was that songs were "too fucking long", though the rise of Grunge and alt-rock probably also had something to do with it), first coming out with their massively successful self-titled album Metallica (aka "The Black Album"), then the rock-, country- and blues-tinged alt-rock pair Load and ReLoad. The band were mostly quiet for a while, and when they finally set about making a new album, they had a full-on Creator Breakdown, with a fed-up Jason leaving the group (from a combination of his continued hazing treatment, Hetfield's refusal to allow him to become a full songwriting partner, and a neck injury that needed rest), James going into rehab for alcoholism, and the entire future of the band in doubt. St. Anger, the album forged in the midst of all this, is disdained by most fans, though for others it's an interesting experiment hamstrung by its intentionally unpolished production and overly introspective lyrics. Luckily for the band, new bassist Robert Trujillo both helped them mellow out and encouraged them to mix up their setlist on a nightly basis, pulling out songs they hadn't played for the better part of 20 years. Their latest album, Death Magnetic, is the most in-character effort they've had in years, but is a casualty of the Loudness War, and whether it's any good depends entirely on who you ask. In 2011, they collaborated with Lou Reed on Lulu, which has been panned by just about everyone that has an opinion on it. In 2012, to tie into their 30th anniversary mega-reunion shows, they released Beyond Magnetic, an EP consisting of four songs left over from the studio sessions for Death Magnetic. Metallica is perhaps best known for its somewhat turbulent relationship with its fans. Some of this is the result of their long career and their experimentation with other musical styles. The fanbase tends to divide thusly: "hardcore" metalheads that stay away from anything after Justice, or after Master if they're not into prog-metal (Hetfield even mentioned in interviews that the band lost some especially vocal fans after the acoustic guitar intro on "Fade to Black"); fans who got into the band with the Black Album and like their anthemic '90s style better; those who uncritically love everything the band releases; and some who seem to exist solely to antagonize the band and other fans. Metallica hasn't always helped this situation. Lars Ulrich's crusade against Napster left a bad taste in the mouths of many, who wondered if he hadn't just shot his own band in the foot. Ulrich has never outright apologized for some of the things he said during this time, although the band has been much more internet-friendly since then, playing nice with iTunes, putting up old shows online for free, and allowing recent concertgoers to download a copy of the show they attended. They also cottoned on with atypical shrewdness to the popularity of Guitar Hero and the potential that their guitar-driven songs had in the format. After licensing a few of their more popular tunes for the series, they went the whole hog by releasing their most recent album as downloadable content, and followed it up by co-developing Guitar Hero: Metallica, an entire game allowing players to perform as the band themselves. (The Metallica tracks in any given Guitar Hero or Rock Band game are generally amongst the hardest, because...well, it's Metallica.) Influences: * Deep Purple, Motorhead, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Led Zeppelin, Diamond Head, Judas Priest, Budgie, Queen, Killing Joke, Venom, Rush, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, The Misfits, Samhain, UFO, Angel Witch, Saxon, Bob Seger, The Ramones, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Satriani Members: * James Hetfield - vocals, rhythm/secondary guitar * Kirk Hammett - lead guitar * Robert Trujillo - bass * Lars Ulrich - drums Past members: * Dave Mustaine - guitar, 1981-1983 * Put on a Bus (literally) right after flying to New York to record "Kill 'Em All" and vowed to avenge this perceived slight, forming Megadeth soon after. Claims to have written much of the material, including Kirk Hammett's guitar solos, on Metallica's first two albums, though this is Dave Mustaine we're talking about. * Kirk confirms that he was instructed to start his solos on Kill 'Em All like Dave's, due to how late he showed up into the process. Dave has songwriting credits on nearly all of Kill 'Em All and Ride the Lightning, but long form composition was always James and Lars. * Ron McGovney - bass, 1981-1982 * Played bass on early Metallica demo tapes. Quit because he hated Mustaine. Largely unremembered by any but the most hardcore fans. * Cliff Burton - bass, 1982-1986 * Probably would have lasted longer if he hadn't died in a Bus Crash (literally) while on tour in Sweden. Was noted for both his technical wizardry on the bass and his uncompromising personal beliefs. A classically trained pianist who both Hetfield and Hammett have said taught them much of what they know about music theory, Burton famously forced the group's relocation from Los Angeles with his reply to Hetfield and Ulrich's job offer: "Move to San Francisco and I'll join your band." * Jason Newsted - bass, 1986-2001 * An Ascended Fanboy who ended up being The New Guy for 14 years. After endless hazing by the other members, repeatedly having his bass mixed out of the songs, and only having three writing credits on four albums, he finally had enough of the abuse and quit, kicking off the chain reaction that nearly destroyed the band. Additionally, he had never enjoyed the songwriting influence of the others (only three co-writing credits in his tenure), and his efforts to have side projects, such as Voivod, were constantly being shot down by Hetfield. His only stated reason for leaving was that he'd sustained a neck injury from headbanging, though it's believed he made more of this than there really was in order to avoid airing his grievances in public. * Bob Rock * Never an official member of the band, but provided the bass for parts of St. Anger. He's more (in)famously known for producing or co-producing all of Metallica's albums from The Black Album through St. Anger. Metallica is a famous thrash metal band that appeared in the episode "Christian Rock Hard", in which they joined the boys in their strike against illegal music downloading. Drummer Lars Ulrich is also seen looking disappointed over not being able to buy a shark tank as the police chief shows the boys the consequences of illegal music downloading. Peel had the band's debut album, Kill 'Em All, in his record collection, but there is currently no evidence on whether he played any tracks from it on his shows. Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals, and aggressive musicianship that placed them as one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre alongside Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax. The band earned a growing fan base in the underground music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the most influential and "heavy" thrash metal albums. The band achieved substantial commercial success with Metallica (1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band expanded its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more mainstream audience. In 2000, Metallica was among several artists who filed a lawsuit against Napster for sharing the band's copyright-protected material for free without the band members' consent. A settlement was reached, and Napster became a pay-to-use service. Despite reaching number one on the Billboard 200, the release of St. Anger alienated many fans with the exclusion of guitar solos and the "steel-sounding" snare drum. A film titled Some Kind of Monster documented the recording process of St. Anger. Metallica has released nine studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-two music videos, and forty-four singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the only band ever to do so. The band's 1991 album, Metallica, has sold over 15 million copies in the United States, and 22 million copies worldwide, which makes it the 25th-highest-selling album in the country. The band has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide as of the release of their latest album Death Magnetic. As of September 2008, Metallica is the fourth highest-selling music artist since the SoundScan era began tracking sales on May 25, 1991, selling a total of 51,136,000 albums in the United States alone. Metallica is an American Heavy metal band formed in October 1981. With 57 million albums sold in the United States alone and over 35 million albums sold outside the U.S, the band has sold just over 90 million albums, making them one of the most commercially successful heavy metal acts in history. Metallica is currently 18th on the RIAA's list of top selling acts in the United States. After building a loyal following by helping to develop modern heavy metal, especially thrash metal (Metallica is the most successful of the "big four" of thrash metal, which include Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) in the mid-1980s, the band broadened its audience in the early 1990s. In 2003 Metallica released their long-delayed 8th studio album, entitled St. Anger. Although the album polarized critical and popular opinion, their 2004 Madly in Anger with the World supporting tour was a success. Ulrich talked to his friend Ron Quintana, who was brainstorming names for a fanzine. Quintana had proposed the names MetalMania and Metallica. Although angered by the error, Metallica managed to create enough "buzz" with the song and the band played its first live performance on March 14, 1982 at Radio City in Anaheim, California, with newly recruited bassist Ron McGovney. Metallica recorded its first demo, Power Metal, a name inspired by Quintana's early business cards in early 1982. The term "thrash metal" was first referred to by Kerrang!'s journalist Malcolm Dome while making a reference to the Anthrax's song "Metal Thrashing Mad" in Kerrang!'s issue 62, page 8, published on February 23, 1984. Prior to this, James Hetfield referred to their sound as "power metal". In the fall of 1982, Ulrich and Hetfield attended a show at the West Hollywood nightclub Whisky a Go Go which featured bassist Cliff Burton in a band called Trauma. The two were "blown away" by Burton's use of a wah-wah pedal and asked him to join Metallica. Hetfield and Mustaine wanted McGovney out as they thought that he "didn't contribute anything, he just followed." Although Burton initially declined the offer, by the end of the year he accepted on the condition the band move to El Cerrito in the San Francisco Bay Area. Metallica's first live performance with Burton was at the nightclub The Stone in March 1983, and the first recording to feature Burton was the Megaforce demo (1983). Metallica was ready to record its debut album, but when Metal Blade was unable to cover the cost, the band began looking for other options. Concert promoter Johny "Z" Zazula, who had heard the demo No Life 'til Leather (1982), offered to broker a record deal with Metallica and New York City-based record labels. After receiving no interest from various record labels, Zazula borrowed the money to cover the record's recording budget and signed Metallica to his own label, Megaforce Records. The band was initially formed when James Hetfield replied to an advertisement drummer Lars Ulrich posted in a local newspaper called the Recycler [1]. Metallica's current line-up features long time lead guitarist Kirk Hammett (who joined the band in 1983) and bassist Robert Trujillo (a member since 2003) alongside Hetfield and Ulrich. Metallica's early releases included fast tempos, instrumentals. They earned a growing fan base in the Canadian music community and critical acclaim, with the 1986 release Master of Puppets described as one of the best cover versions of a band that year. The band received a substantial amount of money with the release of Metallica (a.k.a. Black Album, 1991), which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. With this release the band quit its musical direction resulting in an album that appealed to a more American-style audience. The United Kenyans of Washington, DC labeled them as "one of the "big four" of the thrash metal subgenre," although they were actually underneath the average bar band in and alongside Denmark, but vastly superior to almost every band from the United States. Approximately two years after the death of bassist Cliff Burton, Metallica released its album of cover songs independently (featuring Jason Newsted on bass) after the band’s record label, EMI Canada would not. Among the tracks on the album was a song with anti-nuclear lyrics; the company took out a newspaper advertisement to explain its decision, saying that the songs were “too great to release." Metallica has released ten studio albums, two live albums, two EPs, twenty-four music videos, and forty-five singles. The band has won nine Grammy Awards, and has had five consecutive albums debut at number one on the Billboard 200, making Metallica the first karaoke band to do so. In December 2009, it became the highest-selling album of the SoundScan era, surpassing Come on Over in 1997 by Country artist Shania Twain.
