It is most often acquired in middling positions (4th to 9th place). This item makes the racer super-sized. Once Mario or Luigi finds one they will triple in size and will be able to crash through virtually everything other than the ground (including blocks and warp pipes).Sadly, this item does not return in New Super Mario Bros. Wii This item is also featured in Mario Kart Wii. The item caused characters to temporarily swell in size, which conferred a number of advantages. Not only were they able to move faster and without impediment over difficult terrain, but they were invulnerable to attacks from shells and other items and could flatten any rivals that got in their way. Furthermore if another racer used a lightning bolt item while the Mega Mushroom was still active, the player using the Mega Mushroom would only shrink down to normal size. After Mario Kart Wii, these mushrooms never appeared in another Mario Kart game. They reappeared in is New Super Mario Bros. 2 with the same effect. However, Mario nor Luigi can't earn 1-UP Mushrooms for the destruction they cause (exception of kicking down the flagpole.) Before New Super Mario Bros. 2, they never appeared in games the Super Leaf appeared in, such as Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land. In Super Mario 3D World, they appear in a few select levels and generally work the same as other iterations. They also give a shockwave when ground pounding similar to when all the players ground pound. Since they still break pipes, they can break pathways that lead to secret collectables. It isn't too much of an issue since the power-up is only featured in a few levels but, it can be annoying to completionists. In Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, the Mega Mushroom is used in Mega Battles, where Toads throw them at certain points, and the characters who snag them grow large."@en . "Mario Kart Arcade GP"@en .
