"One day, the fisherman intended to go out at sea with his wife, though the couple got into an argument about whether or not they should go fishing. The old woman told him not to, as there was a storm brewing, though he quickly dismissed this claim, emphasizing the tranquility of the weather, and told her to stop "nagging". His wife countered that she could feel with her joints that bad weather was upon them, though he once again brushed off her worry, this time noting that since it was "her joints against [his] brain", he would go with the latter. As she angrily refused to go along with him, the fisherman exclaimed he would hire a new fish hauler and pay him double for his work. When Sokka readily volunteered, the fisherman promptly hired him on the spot. When his wife later referred to Aang as the "boy with the tattoos", the fisherman recognized them as airbender tattoos and identified him as the Avatar. As opposed to being glad to see him, he accused him for abandoning the world, leaving behind a time of war and suffering to continue. When Aang fled on his glider, the man yelled after him to "keep flying" and although Katara reprimanded him for his harsh words, declaring him to be a "horrible old man", he remained unfazed. When Katara left on Appa, dousing him with water, he told Sokka that his friends were impolite. As Sokka commenced to recall another instance in which they had been rude, the fisherman gruffly cut him off, handed him more supplies, and ordered him to get below deck. Shortly after the fisherman set sail with Sokka, they were caught in the powerful storm his wife had predicted. Hanging on to the ropes of the boat for dear life, Sokka commented that he was too young to die, to which the fisherman replied that while he was not too young, he still did not want to die. When lightning struck their vessel and caused the mast to break down, they were nearly crushed under its weight. At the last second, however, Aang used his waterbending to sever the beam, saving them all. As Sokka tied a rope around his and the fisherman's waist, they both were pulled atop Appa's saddle by Aang. Their salvation was short-lived, however, as a wave swallowed them and pulled them below surface. Despite hanging on to Appa's saddle, the fisherman was barely conscious. He was saved by Aang once again, when he entered the Avatar State and created an air pocket around them all, preventing them from drowning. After Appa broke through the surface, they returned to a cave where the fisherman happily reunited with his wife. Inside the cave, the fisherman was ordered by his wife to apologize to Aang. Reluctant to do so, he suggested that he could offer him a free fish instead. When Aang noted that he did not eat meat, the fisherman declared that fish was not meat. As Sokka approached him, intending to claim his pay for helping to haul the fish, the elderly man gave him a raw fish. After bickering some more with his wife, the fisherman approached Aang and acknowledged that he would not have been there if it were not for him, and officially thanked him for saving his life."@en . . "I was born many years ago and I was the eldest son in a family of four children. We were all very unfortunate to miss the Whiteman's education. My father was a peasant farmer who could not afford school fees, which was being paid in primary schools as well as high school. As the eldest son and the first child, I had no other ways but was disciplined and followed the instructions of my parents. Our main work at home was to help them in the farm and sometimes go to the Lake to fish. These daily activities at home did not allow us access to education. Although children of our age were attending schools aided by churches, many parents during this period did not understand why children had to attend school. I therefore accustomed myself with the duties at home. As my two sister Margaret and Rose were growing and could relieve in fetching water, home cleaning, kitchen work, and farm work, my father suggested I become acquainted with how children of my age at fourteen years go fishing and can help the family improve their income. I developed interest, as boys my age were becoming genius in fishing helping their families. My hope was to become a breadwinner in the family. The first interest I developed was going hooking early in the morning and late evening. The catch was very much impressive and made me eager and eager to do the work, forgetting to get involved in other activities at home and within the community. My father liked the idea and always thought inwardly in himself to make me a canoe, which would allow me go to deep waters inside the lake. I had developed much interests in fishing and so agreed with my father to improve our income. The nets we used were not taken deep into the Lake, but just cast along the shores. Every morning we went with my father to check on the catch, which was our daily meal. Things changed drastically and our family’s status changed with fish to eat and sell, my father had to do other farming activities than fishing. We became a fishing family. All the daily work was at the lake shore every morning before mother could break to prepare Lunch for the family. The fish had to be sent to the market not every morning but the women took them to dry, smoke and pack them in fish carrying papyrus, which was known as “kanga”. The markets were far, they could take several days before they come back for fish again. This interfered with the daily fish activity. Standard of living was low and even agriculture was thriving. For the above reasons and many more made most of the fishermen, to duly suspend fishing during the months of April to July, because of transportation and weather conditions. The markets were hard to penetrate. Simply life was very simple, most of the families were never alarmed of the proceedings. Most of the activities were done in small scale but profitable. We could get food, clothing, and other necessities in the family. We lived like this, I became a renowned fisherman with many canoes, and I could hire mens to help with the work. When I married my wife, I had total command in the fishing beach and could manage as the chairperson of all the management activities in the beach. My family also loved the fishing activity and it became the sole bread earner."@en . . . . "Class"@en . "90"^^ . . . . "Fisherman"@en . "14"^^ . . . . . "earth"@en . . "5"^^ . "20"^^ . . . . . . There is a story of a poor fisherman and his wife who lived in a shanty by the sea. One day, the man caught a fish that talked. The fish said it was an enchanted prince and begged the fisherman to set him free, which the man did. The fisherman's wife was furious, and commanded him to go back and demand the fish grant him a wish. The man went back to the end of his pier and shouted; Flounder, flounder, in the sea, Harken thee now unto me! The fish now owed the man, so it granted his wife's wish for a lovely cottage to replace their shack. This did not satisfy the wife for long, and she sent her husband back to demand a castle from the fish. She got it. Thus it went; next she wanted to be King, then Emperor, and then Pope. All of these the flounder granted her. At last she demanded to be the Lord of the Universe, with the power to command the rising and setting of the sun.
