Sus primeros golpes tras una batería se remontan a 1991, con la formación The Art of Butchery (brutal death metal). Durante la siguiente década, realizó con esta banda la grabación de una demo “Butcher Works” (1993), de un cd editado y distribuido a nivel internacional por una compañía japonesa “My Pleasure is your Pain” (1995), y de una última grabación llamada “Apologic Mirages” (1998), la cual no llegó a ponerse a la venta… Será también durante ese mismo periodo cuando coincidirá por primera vez en un grupo con Juan (voz RUNIC), habiendo compartido escenario con grupos como Haemorrhage, Avulsed, Gothic Sex o Napalm Death, entre otros… En el 2001, y tras la grabación de Awaiting the sound of the unavoidable, Rivas se centra de lleno en guiar intensidad y velocidad de remado en RUNIC… Con The flag of Rivas. Rivas resembles a woman of slender build draped head to toe in a long gown and wearing a headdress. A single green gem is adorned on her forehead and her arms are hollow and limp like the sleeves of a nightgown. She is of great height, being one of the taller Origins, and very curvaceous. In 1988 Phoenix SA import/export head Malcolm Grey sent his employee Ma Sek to Miami to deliver a package (drugs) to Rivas, but it never arrived, as the trucks normally filled with produce and drugs contained produce only. Rivas then went looking for Ma Sek, taking his wife, May Ying, hostage to force Ma Sek to return his money and drugs. Rivas and his man Cortez tortured May Ying until she disclosed where she was to meet her husband, but was all a ruse set up by Ma Sek, as he planned to leave with his partner, Dimitri, on a boat with the goods. May Ying's ex-husband, Martin "Marty" Castillo, took his Metro-Dade OCB team to the warehouse where Rivas was and ordered Rivas to surrender.
