Spectroscopy has revealed that Sedna's surface composition is similar to that of some other trans-Neptunian objects, being largely a mixture of water, methane and nitrogen ices with tholins. Its surface is one of the reddest in the Solar System. It is believed to be a dwarf planet by several astronomers and is large enough to be considered one under the 2006 draft proposal of the IAU, though the IAU has not formally recognized it as such. For most of its orbit it is even farther from the Sun than at present, with its aphelion estimated at 937 astronomical units 31 times Neptune's distance), making it one of the most distant known objects in the Solar System other than long-period comets. Sedna's exceptionally long and elongated orbit, taking approximately 11,400 years to complete, and distant point of closest approach to the Sun, at 76 AU, have led to much speculation as to its origin. The Minor Planet Center currently places Sedna in the scattered disc, a group of objects sent into highly elongated orbits by the gravitational influence of Neptune. However, this classification has been contested, as Sedna never comes close enough to Neptune to have been scattered by it, leading some astronomers to conclude that it is in fact the first known member of the inner Oort cloud. Others speculate that it might have been tugged into its current orbit by a passing star, perhaps one within the Sun's birth cluster, or even that it was captured from another star system. Another hypothesis suggests that its orbit may be evidence for a large planet beyond the orbit of Neptune. Astronomer Michael E. Brown, co-discoverer of Sedna and the dwarf planets Eris, Haumea, and Makemake, believes it to be the most scientifically important trans-Neptunian object found to date, as understanding its unusual orbit is likely to yield valuable information about the origin and early evolution of the Solar System.", "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/yaUrhRueRLAHlJRxGOV9uw==": "You're looking peppy today!", "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/atlantica/property/wikiPageUsesTemplate": { "__deferred": { "uri": "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/B1fNooWZLpe_-JdeJB_tfQ==" } }, "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/tjVqB8-eZKjknaLPCx2P7A==": "pirate", "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/3s-AycCT5ntM8WfhfKavtQ==": { "__deferred": { "uri": "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/YZx8ChHYTM1eyZichZE1xQ==" } }, "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/WK5B7yXVzZglC8xAa4kwpg==": "1", "http://purl.org/dc/terms/subject": { "__deferred": { "uri": "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/1mf8aCidfeL771KeV1kQuA==" } }, "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/demigod/property/wikiPageUsesTemplate": { "__deferred": { "uri": "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/resource/YQjq23LfLmksmRUb4hHt3w==" } }, "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/ontology/abstract": "Sedna (Inuktitut: ᓴᓐᓇ, Sanna) is a Goddess of Inuit lore. She is the ruler of Adlivun, the Inuit underworld which is below the Earth's and below the Seas. While legends on her vary greatly, each contain several similar elements. One such myth stated that Sedna was once a child with a great appetite for human flesh. One day, her father took her out to sea on his Kayak, after she attempts to devour her father's arm, he throws her overboard. She attempted to hold onto the Kayak but her father cut off her fingers and so feel deeper into the water, becoming the Goddess of the Sea and ruler of the Underworld. Another prominent myth paints her in a much more sympathetic light. Sedna was a beautiful woman who lived with her parents. Her mother was kind and her father was a great hunter. She loved her parents so much that she refused to marry. One day, a bird dressed as a man convinced her to move into his luxurious home. After discovering that the man was a bird and that his home was a barren island, she was greatly upset. Her father came to visit someday, and when he learned that the birdman tricked his daughter, he killed him and took Sedna home. Soon, the birdman's friends attacked Sedna and her father in the form of a giant thunderstorm. Mysteriously, Sedna was transformed into a great spirit. Quite unexpectedly, the wreckage of a massive starship was found crashed on Sedna's surface. It was heavily damaged, due to thousands of years of meteor impacts, and it was discovered that the spaceship predated even the earliest known Noki ruins. Sedna is generally avoided by most spacecraft(because of superstition), as most worlds with unexplained alien ruins are. The only human population of Sedna is in a small community of archeologists who live around the wrecked spacecraft(With a population of 250), studying it. The community has experienced a number of strange events, such as all power going out suddenly, and mysterious cryptic messages appearing on computer screens. It is unknown what causes these strange happenings; it has even been suggested that part of the long dead crew of the ancient spacecraft's conciousness is still intact. It is the coldest most distant place known in the solar system. She has a high albedo and very red-Reddish object after mars. The temperature never rises above -240 celsius (-400 degrees Fahrenheit). Just like Eris it was discovered by Dr. Mike Brown, Drs. Chad Trujillo , and David Rabinowitz. Sedna is suggested to be formed near the sun, in region between Jupiter and Neptune. It may have an gravitational encounters with other bodies causing it to launched in its current orbit. However, the trouble is that she never comes closer than about twice the distance of Pluto. It could be related to the hypothesized Oort cloud, but its 10x closer than the predicted distance of the Oort cloud. The Oort cloud is an immense spherical cloud surrounding the planetary system and extending approximately 3 light years, about 30 trillion kilometers from the Sun. This vast distance is considered the edge of the Sun's orb of physical, gravitational, or dynamical influence. Brown speculated that this "inner Oort cloud" might have been formed billions of years ago when a rogue star passed by the sun, nudging some of the comet-like bodies inward." Sedna (2003 VB12) diameter is 800 - 1100 miles, less than 1,700 km ( about 1,00 miles). It's mass is unknown and the bulk density is also unknown, probably about 2 grams per cubic centimeter making it roughly half rock and half ice. Its orbit is highly elliptical with an orbital period of 11,249 years. The average orbital radius is 525.6 AU ( semi-major axis), orbital eccentricity is 0.855, and orbital inclination is 11.9 degrees - 12 degrees, less Pluto's. The rotational period of Sedna is about 20 days or so, but no longer than 50 days. Sedna's Axial period is 10 hours, Perihelion is 76.0 AU, and Aphelion is 928 AU. Sedna had our astronomers baffled with its mystery self. Sedna rotates slowly, which causes astronomers like Mike Brown to think it has a moon. However, with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope, it shows that Sedna stands alone with only faint background of the stars around it. "I'm completely baffled at the absence of a moon," Brown said. "This is outside the realm of expectation and makes Sedna even more interesting. But I simply don't know what it means. There are four possibilities for why we can not see Sedna's moon. The first reason is that the moon may be behind Sedna and we could not see it. The chances of this happening is 1 in a 100 chances, but it can not be ruled out yet. Second reason is perhaps the moon is fainter than what we exspected. Third reason is perhaps there is no moon. It is possible that there was once a moon, but it may have gotten knocked out by another passing object or it's time just ran out. The last possibable reason is that perhaps our evidence is misleading us. Either the brightening and dimming that we think we see are not real or the measurement is real, but we are being fooled. Before we can determine if Sedna really have a moon or not, We need to careful look at the rotation of Sedna next year.", "http://dbkwik.webdatacommons.org/ontology/abstract": "Sedna (Inuktitut: ᓴᓐᓇ, Sanna) is the goddess of the sea and marine animals in Inuit mythology, also known as the Mother of the Sea or Mistress of the Sea. Its thought that the Dwarf planet Eris orbits a Brown dwarf star named Niburu and that Sedna orbits either a black star or a nuetron star named Nemesis, due to gravity purturbations being observed on the planet Neptune back in the year 1850 a few years after Neptunes discovery. These gravity purturbations of Neptune, Pluto ,Eris and now Sedna all clearly indicate that the Solar system is just a singal star system but the single star moved places over the billions of years. The findings indicate its always just been that mono-solar system that moved and a brown dwarf that never ignigted that purturbs the orbits of Neptune, Pluto , and Eris, and Sedna.
