On Archimedes’ tail was a container with a dissolving solution, with its purpose being to fuse Jyu Viole Grace's soul with Enryu's Thorn in order to create the ultimate weapon for Karaka; it was manually dropped by one of FUG's Rankers. Archimedes was named after the Ancient Greek mathematician Archimedes. Archimedes and Galileo had stalls in Doc's blacksmith's workshop between the door and Doc's refrigerator, with their names written on signs above the entrances to their stalls. He was the horse that Doc was riding when rescuing Clara Clayton from falling into Shonash Ravine on September 4, and to chase after the train on September 7. The Archimedes was a Remote Scanning Outpost located on the edge of the Sigma Octanus system, designed to detect incoming threats to the system. It was crewed by three individuals, including Ensign William Lovell. Archimedes is the divine horse of knowledge. When a player visits his public profile page, he asks a multiple-choice question. If the chosen answer is correct, the player will receive an aging point and his intelligence level will increase. If the chosen answer in incorrect, the player will not receive an aging point and he will lose intelligence. Archimedes was introduced as a prize to the players who contributed during a promotion called the quiz. Archimedes (real name unknown) is a Gadgeteer and has a power that shuts down Devisors, their devises, Wizards and their spells. He was working with Jacob Harris on a way to create mutant powers. The Archimedes was a commercial trading ship under the command of Captain Bickford. On June 21st, 2243, the Archimedes was off Beta Durani when word was revived of an unknown alien ship that had headed badly off course in hyperspace before emerging from the local jumpgate and crashed on nearby Theta 49. Captain Bickford brought the Archimedes in to help, though in truth he was somewhat more interested in acquiring salvage than rendering aid. He did however agree to allow Dr. Stephen Franklin - a young hitch-hiker who had traded his medical services for passage - to go down with the team. Though they found nothing useful they did recover and bring aboard seven badly wounded survivors, ranging in age from the equivalent to four and sixty five Earth years old. Stephen believed them to be Minbari based on their appearance and while he was unable to understand their language, while speaking to one, they appeared to recognise the word "Minbari", confirming his earlier belief. Though he did the best he could, without even a basic knowledge of Minbari biology Stephen was unable to save any of them. Still eager to learn everything he could, Franklin talked Captain Bickford into allowing him to perform full autopsies, from which he gathered an extensive amount of medical data, making detailed notes on their DNA and biology. Kimchi (Chowder) Archimedes was an Ancient Greek mathematician who came up with the Archimedes principle. According to Dr. McKay, legend has it that he came up with the idea for his principle when he was sitting in a bath, leading him to have the revelation. Instead of working to find a solution, he would relax until the solution came to him. McKay had that kind of revelation a few times during his work in the Atlantis expedition. The First Doctor (PROSE: City at World's End) and the Eighth Doctor (PROSE: Fallen Gods) claimed to have met Archimedes. The Sixth Doctor read his name in a collection of business cards of geniuses to consult for a problem of time slip. He defined him "fascinating chap, but a bit wet". (TV: The Two Doctors) Archimedes first appears with Merlin in their forest cottage. He scoffs at Merlin's idea that someone will join them for tea. Later, when a young boy named Wart does appear, he snidely reminds Merlin about his limits, when Merlin states that he can see everything in the future, as Merlin had no clue who the person was that would be joining them. Archimedes accompanies Merlin as they travel to Sir Ector's castle, where Wart lives. Merlin introduces Archimedes as a "highly educated owl," which sends Sir Ector into hysterics, much to the offense of Archimedes. The next day, Archimedes protests that Merlin should return to the woods, as Sir Ector has placed the two of them in a crumbling tower, referred to as the "guest room." It rains that night, and Archimedes is soaked due to the numerous leaks in the tower. After Merlin sees Sir Pelinore come with news, Archimedes is sent to investigate. In the dining room, Archimedes overhears the men speak of an upcoming tournament, where the winner would become king of England. The next morning, Archimedes is forced to remind a forgetful Merlin of where they are. The two then watch as Wart helps Kay practice his jousting. When Merlin scoffs at the idea that jousting is a science, Archimedes points out that Wart likes the sport just as much as the rest do. Merlin then reveals his plan to use magic to help Wart learn the value of an education. Archimedes later accompanies Merlin as the wizard gives Wart a lesson. Merlin forgets the spell he intended to cast, and awakens a sleeping Archimedes for the spell. Archimedes is shown to be very cranky early in the morning, and finds a nice tree to sleep in, while Merlin and Wart swim through the moat as fish. Archimedes doesn't get much rest, as he is soon forced to come to the rescue of Wart, who is being chased by a giant pike. After Wart and Merlin are human again, Merlin slyly notes that Archimedes cared a lot about Wart's safety. This leads Archimedes to excuse himself on the basis that young perch is his favorite dish, and that he intended to eat Wart. Later, when Merlin and Wart have transformed themselves into squirrels for another lesson, Wart is being chased by a lovestruck female squirrel. Archimedes' sleep is once again disturbed by Wart landing on top of him, to which the owl shoos Wart away, not knowing who he is. Archimedes is next seen after Wart is fired as Kay's squire. Merlin begins Wart's education in earnest by talking about very complicated theories. Archimedes sees that Wart is getting confused and forcibly takes over Wart's education. Archimedes is shown to be much more practical than Merlin. He first tasks Wart with reading a mountain of books, but when he discovers that Wart can't read or write, Archimedes teaches him. During a break, Merlin demonstrates a model airplane. Archimedes believes that it won't work, and becomes hysterical when the plane crashes, due to it being caught in Merlin's beard. When Merlin turns Wart into a sparrow, so that Wart can fly as he dreamed, Merlin begins to explain the concept of flight using Archimedes's wings as a model. Archimedes quickly stops this, and decides to teach Wart to fly himself, as he himself is a bird. He teaches Wart to fly by making him do it. Everything is going well, when a hawk appears and tries to eat Wart. Archimedes attempts to delay the hawk, and Wart is able to dive into a chimney to escape. When Archimedes sees that Wart is now in the hands of Madam Mim, Archimedes flies off to warn Merlin. Archimedes next appears as the Wizard's Duel is about to start, and he explains the premise to Wart. Alongside Wart, he watches the duel, and occasionally yells out advice to Merlin. At Christmas, Wart is made Kay's squire, to which Archimedes kindly congratulates him, but Merlin is furious with Wart's decision and goes to Bermuda. Archimedes stays with Wart, accompanying him to London to the tournament. He goes with Wart as he attempts to find a sword for Kay. When Wart attempts to retrieve the Sword in the Stone, Archimedes warns him against pulling it. Later, he witnesses Wart being officially recognized as the rightful king Arthur, and shows a mixture of happiness and disbelief. After the coronation, Arthur feels unprepared for the duties of king. Archimedes tries to help him run away, but they are unsuccessful as the castle is surrounded by cheering subjects. Merlin magically reappears to guide Arthur again, and Archimedes presumably chose to stay with them. With a longevity almost as impressive as that of the Guardians, Archimedes' ancestors had watched over and guided young Guardians as they sought their powers down through the centuries, beginning with Christopheles and Steppenwolf. Archy first took part in this practice to train Sabre, the son of Athair, after Athair refused to return to Angel Island to resume his forsaken post as Guardian after the death of his mother Janelle-Li. This change was referenced to by Archy himself, who once commented to Locke-Sabre's son-that even his father, Semper Fidelis, had had trouble dealing with Athair. At any rate, Archimedes trained Sabre and then Locke, before years later taking on the role of instructing Locke's son and the most powerful Guardian yet by far, Knuckles. (KtE: #2, #3, #11)
