Arachne
Arachne (アラクネ Arakune) is a Phantom born from an unnamed, unseen Gate who gave up in despair . His target is Masahiro Yamamoto, who is out purchasing baby items for his pregnant wife at a flea market. He is able to merge with the ground, possessing a hard exoskeleton, clawed hands, and an axe. Arachne is also very fast, rivaling Wizard's speed in Infinity Style.
Arachne was a beautiful queen. However, she was incredibly vain and when her daughter's beauty began to outstrip her own, Arachne had her daughter thrown into the ocean where she drowned. In turn, Zeus cursed Arachne and turned her into a hideous half-spider creature. She was banished to a deserted island in the Charybdian Sea.
In Greek myth, Arachne was a spinstress who wove beautiful tapestries. They were so beautiful, she claimed that she was better than the goddess Pallas Athena. Angered by this, the goddess of wisdom challenged her to a spinning duel. In some interpretations of the myth, Arachne defeated Athena. In others, Athena proved the superiority of the gods to man, and Arachne hung herself in distress. Whichever the case, Athena changed the poor girl into a spider so that she may weave forever, and because of this myth, all members of the spider family are called arachnids.
Arachnes are supernatural creatures who have abilities similar to those of spiders. They appeared in Unforgiven.

In Greek mythology, Arachne was a great weaver, so great in fact, that she thought herself better than Athena. Athena was angered, but gave Arachne a chance to redeem herself. Assuming the form of an old woman, she warned Arachne not to offend the gods. Arachne scoffed and wished for a weaving contest, so she could prove her skill. Athena dropped her disguise and the contest began.
Arachne refused to acknowledge that her knowledge came, in part at least, from the goddess. Offended by Arachne's arrogance, Athena set a contest between the two weavers. According to Ovid, the goddess was so envious of the magnificent tapestry and the mortal weaver's success, and perhaps offended by the girl's choice of subjects (the loves and transgressions of the gods), that she destroyed the tapestry and loom and slashed the girl's face. “Not even Pallas nor blue-fevered Envy \ Could damn Arachne's work. \ The goddess raged at the girl's success, struck through her loom, tore down the scenes of wayward joys in heaven". Ultimately, the goddess turned Arachne into a spider, and Arachne's offsrping had all taken a vow to find and hurt those of Athenian decent.
The Arachne is a special prestige class for Lolth's most powerful clerics. The Arachne embodies the evil and self centered nature of the Spider Queen and calls upon Lolth's power only to dominate everyone else in drow society.
Arachne is a large Arachnos boss. She is encountered in the Olive Grove, guarding a hoard of treasure and the Sacred Olive Branch.

Arachne is a fictional character from the Wild Cards series of books. Arachne can extrude silk from her bulbous body and weave it swiftly into her famous spider-silk shawls. Her daughters sell them to tourists in Jokertown (who don't know how they are made). Their booth on Henry Street has an array of delicately dyed scarves and shawls. The trembling, almost transparent fabric earns Arachne a good living supplying the scarves to Saks and Neiman-Marcus. She is politically active and even travelled down to the 1988 Democratic National Convention when Gregg Hartmann was nominated.

The goddess Athena had taught men to make tools, and she had taught women how to weave. With this gift, Arachne claimed herself to be the best weaver, even greater than the goddess of arts and crafts herself; she declared that a contest should be held to see who was the better weaver. Athena then transformed into an old woman to try and talk Arachne out of the contest and to beg forgiveness from the goddess for her misconduct, but Arachne only scorned the old woman and took nothing back. Outraged by the maiden's stubborn arrogance and ungratefulness, Athena emerged from her disguise and accepted the challenge. Arachne remained fearless, but still stubborn; determined to win the contest, she hastened to her fate.

The birth of the Arachne was first hinted at following Sonic the Hedgehog's final encounter with Uma Arachnis, after which the eggs containing them were seen hanging in a web in a nearby tree. Some time after their mother's death, the Arachne hatched and launched an assault on Castle Acorn, their intention being to capture the Sword of Acorns. Arachne was once a mortal weaver of unparalleled skill, but she became prideful and arrogant from all the praise she received for her work. She later challenged Athena to a contest to see who was truly the best weaver. Though there were different variations of the story of the contest, there was one similarity shared by all: Athena ended up transforming Arachne into the first spider and made her immortal. Hence, Arachne's name came to mean "spider" in Greek.

Outraged by the maiden's stubborn arrogance and ungratefulness, Athena emerged from her disguise and accepted the challenge. Arachne remained fearless, but still stubborn; determined to win the contest, she hastened to her fate. Athena's tapestry had four corners that were decorated with miniature scenes showing the terrible fate of arrogant women who were disrespectful to the gods. With these, Athena hoped to warn the maiden about what she could expect from her pride and presumption. Arachne's tapestry, however, was decorated with miniature scenes as well, but she had done so to ridicule the immortal gods. They illustrated the many love affairs of Zeus, as well as the many romantic exploits of Poseidon, Apollo, and Dionysus. Once the contest was finished, Athena admired Arachne's talent, but couldn't tolerate her disrespect. Athena tore apart the tapestry and struck Arachne three times on her forehead with the shuttle. Distraught with defeat, Arachne knit a rope around her neck and tried to hang herself, but Athena showed pity on her by catching her. She, however, couldn't release Arachne from her punishment; she said, "Live, wicked wretch, but hang forevermore. Let my curse remain even upon your children and their children to the end of all your race." Athena then sprinkled some juice from the leaves of a poisonous plant onto Arachne, and she transformed into a spider. Thus, now Arachne and her descendants (the "arachnids") were to weave for all of eternity.

A supervillain thief with spider-themed gadgets. Whether she is a low-powered superhuman or a highly trained athlete is unclear.
Arachne were arachnids native to Endor. A bio-engineered group also made their way to Talus, but these were mostly eradicated by a group of spacers working for the Corellian Security Force. In turn, Zeus cursed Arachne and turned her into a hideous half-spider creature. She was banished to a deserted island in the Charybdian Sea. When a shipload of pirates landed on the island to bury their treasure, Arachne began to kill them. She laid eggs inside their bodies, planning to grow an army of spiders to rule over. Hercules and Iolaus landed on the island shortly after the pirates and with the help of the pirate captain Nebula, they defeated Arachne.
Arachne was a great weaver who boasted that she was better than Athena, goddess of wisdom, weaving, and strategy. Arachne was born from a shepherd's daughter and began weaving at a young age. When Arachne refused to acknowledge that her skill came, in part at least, from the goddess, Athena took offense and setted up a contest between the two. Presenting herself as an old lady, she approached the boasting girl and told her that she could never compare to any of the gods and asked her for forgiveness. Arachne told the "old lady" that she speaks the truth and told her to come down herself and challenge her. Athena removed her disguise and appeared in shimmering glory. The two began weaving away. After they were done Athena saw that Arachne's work was far more beautiful than her's, she ripped Arachne's work into shreds and sprinkled her with Hecate's potion, turning her a spider or after Arachne realizes her mistake and to teach her to respect the gods and their work. Only felt guilty about what she done, Arachne hung herself. Out of pity, Athena brought Arachne back to life as a spider, so she and her children could weave for all time.
Arachne was once a mortal weaver of unparalleled skill, but she became prideful and arrogant from all the praise she received for her work. Arachne's tapestry featured Zeus: Zeus being unfaithful with Leda, Zeus being unfaithful with Europa, Zeus being unfaithful with Danae. Even Athena admitted that Arachne's work was flawless, but was outraged at Arachne's disrespectful choice of subjects. Finally losing her temper, Athena destroyed her tapestry and loom, and struck Arachne on the head. Arachne realized her folly and was crushed with shame. She ran off and hanged herself. Athena took pity on Arachne. Sprinkling her with the juices of aconite, Athena loosened the rope, which became a cobweb, while Arachne herself was changed into a spider. She now weaves tapestries in the form of webs.
