Splendor bought her power gems; this is not the usual means of obtaining them if its known what they are. In Splendor's case, the seller didn't know what they had. More common is how Vamp obtained power gems; she stole them from Nightgaunt, who apparently didn't secure them all that well to his belt. Another means of obtaining them is \"aggressive bargaining\"; \"I'll exchange your children for your power item.\" There may be a link between Power Gems and Dynamorphs, as Dynamorphs can also become attuned to various inanimate objects. However, Green Witch mentions that it's uncertain whether Red Thunder's Power Gem contains a dynamorph or not. Once part of an ancient, rare meteor, power gems gradually lost their abilities over time, but were potent when first mined. In 23 BBY, Quenelle and Obi-Wan Kenobi attempted to locate a set of three power gems, known as the Lost Stars of Nallastia, on the moon of Nallastia. Upon finding them, they used them to dissipate an energy field. The Pirates of Iridium, prior to their destruction by the Jedi in 22 BBY, used these shards to great effect in their operations. By taking advantage of the gems' shield-disrupting power, they could cripple spice freighters and other spacecraft, looting their contents with little resistance. Leia, however, learned of the event from her childhood as stories her father, Bail Organa, told her. While for a time it was presumed that all power gems were destroyed with their bandit owners, one of the relics survived in the possession of the smuggler and ex-pirate Raskar. Retiring to a remote Outer Rim planet, Raskar kept the gem until a worthy foe bested him in combat. Eventually, he was trounced by a cocky smuggler and his furry companion, and was forced to relinquish control of the last power gem, the item that they were sent to retrieve by the Rebel Alliance as a last resort against the Executor. After joining the Rebel Alliance, Han Solo and Chewbacca, upon retrieving the power gem, turned their acquisition over to General Jan Dodonna immediately following the Battle of Yavin. In a futile effort to destroy the Super Star Destroyer Executor, Jan's son, Vrad, took the gem and flew skyward. The resulting event did little to disrupt the warship's shield\u2014hardly any power was left in the gem after all the years that had passed. While the general's son failed to destroy Executor, his brave attack did buy the Alliance time to successfully evacuate the Yavin 4 base. In addition, the little amount of shielding that was disrupted nonetheless allowed the Millennium Falcon to damage one of the Executor's sublight engines. Besides the power gem kept by Raskar, there were other power gems scattered across the galaxy, usually buried, which some spacers attempted to locate during the Galactic Civil War. While not as potent as to disrupt the shields of enemy vessels, they were nonetheless powerful enough to mitigate damage on its wielder, as well as enhance their ability to dodge. In addition, they also acted as a pink light source for various spacer houses."@en . . . . (KtE: #26, #27, #28, KCX) Years later, Robotnik used a Power Gem to boost the power of his Metal Sonic v2.0, which caused him to transform into Titan Metal Sonic v2.0. However, Knuckles used the power of a second gem to enlarge himself, and defeated the robot, while the other gems were stolen from Robotnik by renegade robots Heavy and Bomb. Despite this, Metal Sonic survived and repaired himself. He later located and fought Sonic, defeating him with ease due to having the power gem embedded in his chest. Metal Sonic sacrificed his life to save both Sonic and Tails after being convinced to surpass his programming, though his power gem survived the lava flow from Mount Mobius and was later incorporated in the robot once he was rebuilt as Shard, providing a steady source of power while also helping with self-repair. (StH: #86, #87, #238, KCX, SU: #41) Dr. Eggman retained one Power Gem from his predecessor's supply, and decided to use it to improve his latest Metal Sonic v3.0 model. Imprinted with combat data from all the previous incarnations, Metal Sonic v3.7 engaged Shard in battle, but eventually realized that the Power Gem was a weakness as well as an advantage. As such, it caused the gem to self-destruct, cracking Shard's gem core in the process. Metal Sonic was subsequently rebuilt into version 3.8, retaining all the abilities of its predecessor despite the loss of the gem. Metal Sonic reported the destruction of both Power Gems, but Shard's fate following the encounter was never learned. (SU: #50)"@en . . "Rock"@en . . . .
