Affinity
rdfs:comment
A term for the relationship a Theist has with a Rune. Sources: HeroQuest: Glorantha, Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes An affinity is a gift given to a lucky fledgling or vampyre, red or blue, by the goddess, Nyx. Males usually are gifted affinities or gifts that have to do with the physical realm, like fighting, sword skills, or strength. Females are usually gifted with affinities that are related to the mental and emotional realms such as elements and intuition. Affinity is a unique stat in first appearing in Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade and reappearing in all subsequent games until Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, in which it was removed along with all of the support system, which was the primary usage for Affinity. Despite the return of the support system in the next game, Fire Emblem: New Mystery of the Emblem, Affinity remains absent. Unlike other stats, it cannot be changed, and it only affects combat ability when special support conversations are activated or when the unit's affinity matches that of the level. The stat bonus mechanics for support conversations are as follows: The power to gain strength from something, or when a certain event occurs. Combination of Power Augmentation and Enhanced Condition. Opposite to Aversion. Each Yarhi has a different numerical value that stands for the amount of Affinity it uses while on the battlefield. New Yarhi cannot be summoned when there is not enough Affinity in control of the party. To gain more affinity, capture Summoning Gates. Each allied Gate adds 10 total points to the player's Affinity. Affinity were an English jazz-rock fusion band, active from mid-1968 to January 1972. Like Talents, Affinities is a collective name for certain general abilities belonging to those who can channel. Unlike most weaves, Affinities are innate and cannot be learned. An affinity refers to a person's strength with a given element of the One Power. These Five Powers are Air, Water, Fire, Earth, and Spirit. See also Affinity is, aesthetically, a secondary element or faction, and follows the same scheme for the elements as the main ones of Fire, Frost, Nature and Shadow, right down to the colors for each one. Affinity was added to cards from the Renegade Edition on, essentially making two card types out of each card design and ingame graphics. Each affinity type has separate Abilities, and consequently the utility and value of each affinity of the same card can vary considerably. The specified character can be in the specified squad even if it belongs to a different faction. That character's faction is now considered to be the same as that squad's. "Affinity" is the seventh episode of the eighth season of Stargate SG-1. A film adaptation followed in 2008. Examples of Affinity include: * Adaptation Distillation: The TV adaptation replaced Margaret realising she is a lesbian after falling in love with her future sister-in-law Helen with Margaret becoming attracted to women after her fiancé tries to rape her, leading to some unfortunate implications. * Angst * Butch Lesbian: Ruth Vigers, who successfully passes herself off as Selina's male spirit guide in order to seduce and/or sexually abuse young girls at seances. This also qualifies her as a variant on the Psycho Lesbian trope - Waters (obviously) isn't arguing that lesbianism is evil, but this particular lesbian definitely comes across that way. * Dark and Troubled Past: most of the characters in the story. * Driven to Suicide: A year Kiley is the only daughter of Mark and Elizabeth Jensen, the owners of the Jensen Family Diner. She worked part-time as a waitress and spent the rest of her time trying to find ways to get out of Prescott. She discovered her ability to influence others when she accidentally put several customers to sleep while handing them their menus. The first victim she assumed to be a narcoleptic, but after the third or fourth she realized that there must be something else going on. Though Kiley is a good-hearted person, her strong desire to leave Prescott had sometimes caused her to make unethical decisions (such as using her powers to make customers leave larger tips, or convincing her parents to let her borrow their car). However, unable to resist her conscience, she usually ended up giving the extr Raising the affinity value grants additional dialogue into their history or the possibility of romance. Reaching maximum affinity with a companion will unlock a special perk. The affinity value is a hidden statistic, meaning it is not possible to check the progress without console commands. Affinity is only shown numerically in the player's profile. Elsewhere, they are shown only as progress bars to the next level for that piece of equipment, such as in the Arsenal, during missions, or in the end-mission report. Affinity indirectly affects a player's Mastery Rank. A player gains 200 Mastery points per affinity level on a previously unranked Warframe, Archwing or Companion, and 100 Mastery points per level on a previously unranked weapon. Once a player has acquired sufficient Mastery points, they can take the test to increase their Mastery Rank. Some units in FFH 2 have affinity for a specific type resource, which in practice is always a type of of mana. This is not displayed in the unit overlay, but is noted in the civilopedia. Affinity is shows as: Affinity for (Mana Type) + (Strength). For example, a Spectre, which has Death Affinity +1, gets +2 Death Strength if you have 2 Death Mana. The affinity between each character is calculated by the number of affinity points amassed throughout the game. Upon joining the party a character has 500 affinity points with each of the others, with the partial exception of Fiora, whose affinity with her sweetheart Shulk starts at 2000 points (blue), and with her brother Dunban starts at 1000 points (green). Affinity is indicated on the affinity chart by a coloured symbol, with a pink heart representing the highest affinity: Affinity is a quasi-telepathic link that was developed by the Edenists in the late 21st Century. They use it to communicate mentally with each other, with their habitats and voidhawks. By the 27th Century, it has been further developed to allow direct control of non-sentient computers (such as a bitek array) and animal life forms (such as spiders for remote sensing). One of the misconceptions of affinity that Adamists often have is that affinity is "a voice inside your head". It is so much more, as a full range of emotions, visual images, smells, and sounds can be transmitted. Affinity (親密度 Shinmitsudo?, "Intimacy"), also known by various names such as Affection (好感度 Koukando?) and Bond (絆 Kizuna?), is a relationship system used in a few titles in the Tales series. Having high affinity with various characters rewards the main character with various items and cutscenes. Affinity is an association with certain kinds of magic that leads to them being easier for the caster. Spells, spirits, and nearly everything magical have some sort of alignment. * Affinity * Alignment * Attunement * Proficiency * Propensity * Bent * Gift for * Knack for * Skill in Item affinity tells you how well a hero uses // how much a hero likes to use a certain item. * Note: All Armors & Accessories have the white affinity. Weapons are the only category to have 3 different affinities. Yellow: (Example: File:Staves Affinity Yellow.png) Since the February 2016 patch, yellow affinity toward an item shows that it is the hero's preferred item. When equipping a hero with an item of yellow affinity it will decrease the chance of the item breaking during a quest. * This affinity can now be referred to as the "best-in-slot" affinity Affinity, also known as base hit chance, is a multiplier in the hit chance calculations that contributes largely to the accuracy of an attack. It is a number which normally ranges between 0 and 100 and is effectively a percentage modifier to attack accuracy; the higher the affinity, the higher the hit chance of the attack is. Monsters and players have affinity values for each combat style. Monster affinities are fixed, but player affinities are determined by worn equipment, represented in the Loadout interface by style bonus.

Affinity is only shown numerically in the player's profile. Elsewhere, they are shown only as progress bars to the next level for that piece of equipment, such as in the Arsenal, during missions, or in the end-mission report. Upon gaining enough Affinity, equipment will rank up and (once the equipment's rank exceeds a player's Mastery Rank) gain one extra point of Mod capacity (two points when supercharged via an Orokin Catalyst or Orokin Reactor), used for applying mods. Affinity is stored in each specific item, not the player's character/account; if an item is sold or used in crafting, it loses all of its associated Affinity and ranks. The amount of Affinity a weapon or frame has earned during a mission can be seen in the post-mission report, just to the left of the reward info box, where it is referred to as XP (experience). File:Affinity Booster.png Using the Affinity Booster, purchasable for ‍ 40, doubles Affinity gain for 3 days, or 7 days with the ‍ 80 booster. Some Prime Access packages also have special 90-day Affinity boosters. The specified character can be in the specified squad even if it belongs to a different faction. That character's faction is now considered to be the same as that squad's. An affinity is a gift given to a lucky fledgling or vampyre, red or blue, by the goddess, Nyx. Males usually are gifted affinities or gifts that have to do with the physical realm, like fighting, sword skills, or strength. Females are usually gifted with affinities that are related to the mental and emotional realms such as elements and intuition. * Driven to Suicide: A year before the novel begins, Margaret attempts a fatal overdose of sleeping medicine after learning that her female lover is planning on marrying her (Margaret's) brother. Margaret's narrative ends with her about to attempt suicide again after she learns that Selina has betrayed and deceived her. This second attempt is implied to be successful. * Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette: Margaret is one. * Gaol Time: Margaret spends a lot of time in Millbank Prison, as does the prisoner in whom she takes an interest. * Gayngst: The primary source of Margaret's depression, following her ex-lover's marriage to Margaret's own brother. * Psychic Powers: Selina works as a psychic medium, and claims to commune with spirits. * Queer Romance: Between Margaret and Selina and Margaret and Helen. Also Selina and Ruth, and (depending on your interpretation) Selina and Mrs Jelf. * Spooky Seance: Selina works as a spirit medium before being sent to Millbank. * Victorian Britain: set in this era, and very much characteristic of its darker elements. * Victorian London See also Affinity is, aesthetically, a secondary element or faction, and follows the same scheme for the elements as the main ones of Fire, Frost, Nature and Shadow, right down to the colors for each one. Affinity was added to cards from the Renegade Edition on, essentially making two card types out of each card design and ingame graphics. Each affinity type has separate Abilities, and consequently the utility and value of each affinity of the same card can vary considerably. In the sense that the different Affinities are separate cards, Affinity is, for the most part, a consideration rather than a one, but there are a few cards whose abilities directly affect the type of Affinity. For example, the Dark Crystal, Earth Crystal, Flame Crystal, and Ice Crystal all affect their respective affinities, rather than elements, as might be supposed from their names. Affinity is indicated on the affinity chart by a coloured symbol, with a pink heart representing the highest affinity: Affinity is an association with certain kinds of magic that leads to them being easier for the caster. Spells, spirits, and nearly everything magical have some sort of alignment. * Affinity * Alignment * Attunement * Proficiency * Propensity * Bent * Gift for * Knack for * Skill in Raising the affinity value grants additional dialogue into their history or the possibility of romance. Reaching maximum affinity with a companion will unlock a special perk. The affinity value is a hidden statistic, meaning it is not possible to check the progress without console commands. Affinity, also known as base hit chance, is a multiplier in the hit chance calculations that contributes largely to the accuracy of an attack. Item affinity tells you how well a hero uses // how much a hero likes to use a certain item. * This affinity can now be referred to as the "best-in-slot" affinity White: (Example: File:Spears Affinity White.png) White affinity toward an item shows that the hero doesn't mind using said item, but would still prefer something better. When equipping a hero with an item of white affinity, it will slightly increase the chance of the item breaking during a quest. Grey: (Example: File:Guns Affinity Grey.png) Grey affinity toward an item shows that the hero really doesn't like using said item and would much prefer something better. When equipping a hero with an item of grey affinity, it will highly increase the chance of the item breaking during a quest. Kiley is the only daughter of Mark and Elizabeth Jensen, the owners of the Jensen Family Diner. However, unable to resist her conscience, she usually ended up giving the extra money she made to Prescott's many homeless people. One day, a quiet, hooded boy came to their diner looking very downcast and hungry. She helped him get a job at the diner and her parents allowed him to sleep in the back on a cot. During their time as employees together they foiled a robbery using their mutant powers. Eventually, an agent of Professor X found them hiding in the small town and offered them scholarships to the Xavier Institute of Higher Learning. Now Kiley lives in a dormitory at a mansion in Kansas, where the school is located. She stills keeps in touch with her parents and studies hard. The stat bonus mechanics for support conversations are as follows: To calculate the affinity given by each support level, add the two stat boosts together given per affinity, then round down to the nearest whole number. Example: To calculate the damage boost given by an A support with Guy (Fire affinity) and Karel (Light affinity), add the two bonuses given... 1.5 + 1.5 = 3. The evasion bonus given by that support would be 7.5% + 0.0% = 7%, because decimals are rounded down. In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, different chapter maps were given an affinity. Any character on the map that held an affinity that matched the map's was given a slight advantage in combat. In addition, a player controlled unit with a map-matching affinity had a better likelihood of finding hidden items as opposed to units that did not. Chapter bosses usually held a map affinity. Affinity is a quasi-telepathic link that was developed by the Edenists in the late 21st Century. They use it to communicate mentally with each other, with their habitats and voidhawks. By the 27th Century, it has been further developed to allow direct control of non-sentient computers (such as a bitek array) and animal life forms (such as spiders for remote sensing). Originally, affinity was achieved by neuron symbionts. That is, an implant in the brains of the "sender" and "receiver", allowing them to contact each other. Eventually, affinity was encoded in human DNA and embryos engineered to carry this gene. This was one of the reasons which caused the Edenist community to be ex-communicated from the Church (the other being the transfer of Edenist memories and personalities to the neural strata of the original habitat Eden). Affinity has two modes of communication. One is a secure person-to-person mode for privacy, the other is communial, allowing all Edenists in a given location to pick up on the conversation. Taking the communial mode further, Edenists have a "Consensus", kind of mega-meeting of minds, to discuss matters of grave concern (i.e possesion or the Laton crisis). One of the misconceptions of affinity that Adamists often have is that affinity is "a voice inside your head". It is so much more, as a full range of emotions, visual images, smells, and sounds can be transmitted. Affinity works using an odd property of physics known as quantum entanglement. When two particles are entangled in such a way, the two are linked at a fundamental level, no matter how far apart they are. This allows affinity to broadcast data etc without any apparent means of transmission (i.e. radio), which renders the link to be undetectable of non-affinity technology. It also allows faster-than-light communication. In reality, the distance that affinity has is limited by the power of the sender and the interference present such as large quantities of matter. Affinity is not used exclusively by Edenists. Owners of blackhawk starships (who are usually Adamist) will have neuron symbionts implanted which allows affinity communication with their ship. Unlike Edenist affinity, the owners link is "tuned in" to ship only. Blackhawks do have general affinity though. Another notable use of affinity (or a perversion of it, as seen from the Edenist standpoint) is that of the habitat Valisk. The personality of habitat, Rubra controls his descendants via a modified affinity in the hope that one day these decendants will make Valisk great again. "Affinity" is the seventh episode of the eighth season of Stargate SG-1. Males weaving saidin tend to have affinities for Fire, Earth or Spirit; whereas females weaving saidar tend to have affinities in Water, Air and Spirit. Therefore, Earth and Fire are typically perceived as masculine, and Water and Air as feminine, with Spirit perceived as a gender neutral power. This does not, however, mean that a channeler is limited to these gender clasifications. For instance, while captive among the Seanchan, Egwene al'Vere was noted to have an affinity for finding metals, which is rare among damane. This shows that Egwene has an affinity for Earth, she demonstrated again her affinity later in her rediscovery of making cuendillar and to heal the pattern damaged by Balefire with the crystals of the Flame of Tar Valon. The Asha'man Naeff instead showed an affinity for Air, a rarity for a man. Affinity were an English jazz-rock fusion band, active from mid-1968 to January 1972. The Affinity used to summon a Yarhi will become available for re-use when that Yarhi falls in battle. This takes time, however, and the red bar that appears next to the blue stands for the potential Affinity that will be recuperated after a period of time. The player may dismiss a Yarhi to recuperate its Affinity for use in summoning another. Some units in FFH 2 have affinity for a specific type resource, which in practice is always a type of of mana. This is not displayed in the unit overlay, but is noted in the civilopedia. Affinity is shows as: Affinity for (Mana Type) + (Strength). This translates into that unit having a bonus to it's combat strength equal to the Strength value multiplied by the number of sources of the Mana type you have. The type of strength to be given is defined seperately for each resource. For instance, Air gives Lightning strength, Entropy gives Unholy Strength, Death gives death strength, Water gives Cold strength, and both Fire and Sun give Fire strength. Most resources, however, grant normal, un-typed strength. For example, a Spectre, which has Death Affinity +1, gets +2 Death Strength if you have 2 Death Mana. A term for the relationship a Theist has with a Rune. Sources: HeroQuest: Glorantha, Sartar: Kingdom of Heroes The power to gain strength from something, or when a certain event occurs. Combination of Power Augmentation and Enhanced Condition. Opposite to Aversion.
