Khorne
rdfs:comment
Thus it is that the followers of Khorne are just as likely to be comprised of remorseless berserk killers as well as honourable champions of the battlefield. The Warriors of Khorne, though gore-maddened berserkers all [1a], [2a], take no 'artful' approach to killing, for such indulgent displays serve only to empower Slaanesh, the honourless adversary of Khorne amongst the company of the gods. It is also due to the warrior-code of the devotees of Khorne, who believe it is the solemn right of every warrior to die an honourable death in battle with sword and axe in hand [10]. Khorne is the mightiest of the Gods of Chaos. Khorne is the Blood God, Lord of Rage, Taker of Skulls. He is wrath incarnate, the embodiment of a never-ending lust to dominate and destroy. It is his sole desire to drown the galaxy in a tide of slaughter, to conquer and kill every living thing until there is nothing left but spilt blood and shattered bone. The Blood God is commonly depicted as a broad and muscular humanoid who stands hundreds of feet tall. He has the face of a savage, snarling dog, though his twisted features are all but hidden by a baroque helm decorated with the skulls of conqueror kings. Khorne's exaggerated physique is further distorted by heavy, overlapping plates of armour fashioned from brass and blackened iron. His every word is a growl of endless fury, and his roars of bloodlust echo across his realm. Khorne is the Chaos god of anger, violence, and hate. Khorne is the mightiest and the second to emerge of the four Gods of Chaos, fully coming into existence during Terra's Middle Ages. Every act of violence gives Khorne power, whether committed by his followers or by their enemies. Khorne is said to have inherited a martial nobility and honour, and considers the weak and helpless to be unworthy of his wrath. His associated number is eight, reflected in the organization of his armies, and in smaller matters such as the number of syllables in a daemonic follower's name. Khorne, the Blood God, is one of the four Chaos Gods. He embodies rage and anger, and his followers exist only to destroy. It is said that he appears as a massive, vaguely humanoid creature within his blasted realm in the Warp; a twisted, dog-faced individual clad in brass armor and bearing a tremendous axe. To the follower of Khorne, strategy is useless and tactics pointless. They live, fight, and die by one rule and one rule alone: Kill anything that moves, smash anything that doesn't. His Daemons resemble creatures of ancient Christian Hell, eight-foot horned monstrosities with long tongues and longer swords. Khorne is the name given to the malevolent chaos-god of anger, violence, and hate, and is the Chaos god that is the purest embodiment a deity of War. Every act of violence gives Khorne power, whether committed by his followers or by enemies. The name "Khorne" derives from his Dark Tongue name, Kharneth, meaning "Lord of Rage" or "Lord of Blood". He is considered the eldest and most powerful of the four primal chaos deities - which consist of himself, Nurgle, Slaanesh and Tzeentch. Khorne is the Chaos God of blood, war and martial valour. He acts outwardly by seeking the deaths of others, preferring close combat over ranged weaponry, and the only things he respects are strength and martial prowess. As such, he is completely opposed to the decadent Slaanesh. He is both the eldest and most powerful Chaos God. Khorne is the Blood God, the angry and murderous god of Chaos, one of the great four Powers. His great brass throne sits upon a mountainous pile of bones - the remains of his followers who have died in battle and of the many they have killed in his name. The growing bone pile reflects the success of his worshippers, feeding his glory, but never quite quenching his thirst for blood and death. Cult's dedicated to Khorne are made up of a mix of uncontrollable fighters, who excel at killing, and those who are weak and desire strength. Unlike other gods, who's temple is built from stone or metal, Khorne's temple is the battlefield, where one can here the cries of "Blood for the Blood God" and "Skulls for the Skull Throne". Khorne is the simplest god to worship of the Chaos Gods, but also the most powerful. The Blood God doesn't care where the blood flows from, so long as it keeps flowing.

n10:abstract
Cult's dedicated to Khorne are made up of a mix of uncontrollable fighters, who excel at killing, and those who are weak and desire strength. Unlike other gods, who's temple is built from stone or metal, Khorne's temple is the battlefield, where one can here the cries of "Blood for the Blood God" and "Skulls for the Skull Throne". Khorne is the simplest god to worship of the Chaos Gods, but also the most powerful. The Blood God doesn't care where the blood flows from, so long as it keeps flowing. Khorne's realm in the immaterial realm is known as the Fortress of Khorne, and it is a monument to the fury and bloodshed that the Blood God expects from his followers. Khorne sits on the Throne of Skulls in the centre of the Brass Citadel. The Skull Throne is a brass throne on top of a mountain of skulls belonging to those slain in his name. Around his citadel is a moat filled with the boiling blood of those who've died in battle and beyond that, a barren wasteland. For those who make it far enough through this wasteland, there's a chasm that splits the land in two. This chasm was said to have been caused when Khorne, angry for an unknown reason, smashed his sword into the ground with such force that a massive chasm was created from the blow. Khorn hates magic and those that use it, thus reserves much of his hatred for Tzeentch, but his true wrath is reserved for Slaanesh - who is his complete opposite and seen as a weakling by the war-god. He is associated with the number eight, and it's reflected in rituals. Khorne is envisioned as a monstrous demon that sits upon a huge throne of brass atop a mountain of skulls, surrounded by a lake of blood. The skulls are said to be all of the skulls claimed in Khorne's name, as well as those of his slain Champions, and the blood is said to be that which was spilled for him. Thus, both the lake and mountain are eternally growing. The name "Khorne" derives from his Dark Tongue name, "Kharneth", meaning "Lord of Rage" or "Lord of Blood". Although Khorne despises the use of magic and accordingly hates Tzeentch, Slaanesh is his opposite. Khorne and Slaanesh personify two entirely opposing aspects of Chaos, and Khorne considers Slaanesh a weakling without martial pride or honour. Images of Khorne show it to be a mighty being, sitting upon a great throne of brass atop a mountainous pile of bleached skulls centered in a lake of blood. The skulls are of all those slain by Khorne's Champions, and of all his slain Champions. The mountain slowly grows ever higher. Khorne is said to have inherited a martial nobility and honour, and considers the weak and helpless to be unworthy of his wrath. His associated number is eight, reflected in the organization of his armies, and in smaller matters such as the number of syllables in a daemonic follower's name. Khorne is known by a thousand, thousand names in the North. In blood-drenched Norsca alone he is known as Kharnath, Akhar, Kjorn, Khorgar, the Axefather, the Bloodfather, the Bloodwolf and the Wolf-Father, and yet other uncounted multitudes of titles and aspects [1a], [2a]. The Blood God is worshipped by almost every tribe in the North [1a], [2a], [5b], for the Northmen are warrior-peoples who exalt in the contest of arms. Particularly the Norscans, who most eagerly of all embrace Khorne's call to eternal warfare [8a]. In the sagas of the North, Khorne is depicted as an raging, mightily thewed giant with the snarling head of a great wolf, clad in a set of burnished brass plate that easily turns aside any blow [1a], [2a]. His snarling wolf-like visage is concealed by a great winged helm and he clutches a massive battleaxe in his fist. Legends tell that the drawing of this dolorous weapon is the harbinger of calamity, and that Khorne could split asunder reality itself with the merest strike of this blade were it his desire [2a]. Upon his fingers he bears brass rings upon which are mounted the skulls of lesser, usurper war-gods, and his terrible bellows of fury echo across creation and shake entire worlds to their core [4a]. The works of daemonologists however posit that the Blood God resembles one of this Bloodthrister Greater Daemons, only far greater and far more terrible [5a] Khorne Himself sits upon his Brass Throne atop an unimaginably tall mountain of skulls. The grizzly trophies having reaped since the first creature killed its sibling in rage [1a], [2a]. Their number is beyond counting, for every moment, the mountain grows taller as Khorne's warriors make bloody tithes to it, whether by the foes they slay in battle or by themselves slain. The mountain is said to reflect the bloodletting of mortal realms, forever feeding the already omnipotent Blood God, but never sating his infinite thirst for death. For Khorne cares not from whence blood flows, only that it flows, without cease for all eternity. It is said, however, that Khorne welcomes his servants who died in battle into his Halls, where they are said to fight on for all eternity under the Blood God's gaze [2b]. To bring these warriors into his fold, Khorne has charged his consort; the Daemon Princess, Valkia the Bloody, to descend onto the battlefield with every dawn and to carry the slain to his Brass Halls of Eternal Battle [2b] [16]. The hope of this incredible fate reward drives the grim warriors of the Savage North to untold heights of bloodthirsty strength in battle, for to enter the Halls of Khorne is a reward without equal. Khorne favours the Wolf as his sacred animal, for like Khorne himself the wolf respects only strength and longs after the scent of blood. Thus, wolves and hounds often bear strong association with Khorne, particularly amongst the Norse [10a]. It is perhaps for this reason that the Flesh-Hounds of Khorne tend to take on a lupine aspect when hunting in the realms of men. Other totemic beasts of Khorne are invariably those of power and strength; such as lions, powerful hunting hounds, and even oxen [8a]. The code of Khorne is a simple stricture: blood and death [5b]. His only commandment is that his followers kill and wage war without end. Every life taken in anger increases the Blood God's baleful power, and as a result, Khorne is said to look favourably upon warriors who slay even their own comrades in arms -- for all death is equal in his eyes [1a]. It is a common sentiment amongst Khorne's followers that a day without bloodshed is a day wasted, and that should a man let a day pass without killing, he shall incur the terrible wrath of Khorne. Thus, Champion of Chaos high in Khorne's favour are despised and feared by even their fellow servants of Chaos, for there is no telling when they shall slay even their own allies in their blood-lusting battle-frenzy. While a god of uncontrolled death and destruction, Khorne is said to have inherited a savage code of martial honour, and ultimately considers the weak and helpless as unworthy of his scorn as they are of his mercy. The battle cry of the Warriors of Khorne reflects their god's love for wanton violence: "Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Skull Throne!" they cry when plunging into the thick of the raging maelstrom of combat that they so crave. To a follower of Khorne, the slaves of degenerate Slaanesh are effete weaklings without honour or strength. Just as the devotees of Tzeentch are book-bound cowards unwilling to engage in honest battle. Khorne's sacred number is eight -- and this is reflected in the organisation of His legions, as well as in more esoteric matters; like the number of syllables in a daemonic creature's name. Also note that the Mark of Khorne very vaguely resembles a stylised eight [8a]. Khorne broods from a throne of carved brass, atop a mountain of skulls, The macabre trophies are the fleshless heads of his champions, stacked alongside those of their defeated opponents. A hundred thousand species are represented, from human heads beyond counting to Tyranid skulls the size of hive city hab-blocks. The ever-growing pile of bloodstained bone reflects the material victories of his followers, feeding Khorne's glory but never quenching his thirst for blood and death. At Khorne's side rests a great two-handed sword, a legendary blade capable of laying waste to the substance of worlds with a single blow. This fell weapon is known by various names to the different intelligent races of the galaxy, including Woebringer, Warmaker, and the End of All Things. It is said that when Khorne takes up his sword, a single sweep can cut through reality itself, allowing Khorne's daemonic legions to spill forth into the Materium. The code of Khorne is simple: blood and more blood. His only temple is the battlefield, his sole sacrament the spilled blood of nations. Consciously or not, all warrior cultures pay him homage with their acts of murder and destruction, from the headhunting tribes of backwater Feral Worlds to the planet-conquering warbands of the Chaos Space Marines of the World Eaters Traitor Legion. Every single life taken in anger increases the Blood God's power. He looks well upon those warriors who slay their friends and allies, for they prove their understanding of a greater truth -- Khorne cares not from whence the blood flows, only that it flows. Friends or enemies, all the dead are equal in the eyes of the Lord of Battle. Those Khornate devotees who let a day pass without committing an act of bloody-handed slaughter inevitably incur the Blood God's displeasure. Khorne is said to have inherited a martial nobility and honour, and considers the weak and helpless to be unworthy of his wrath. The battle-cry of the followers of Khorne reflects his desire for wanton violence: "Blood for the Blood God! Skulls for the Throne of Khorne!" Alternatively, they may cry, "Skulls for the Skull Throne!" In the throes of violence, Khorne's followers are also known to bellow, "KILL! MAIM! BURN!" repeatedly while hacking apart their enemies. Also, the Khornate Berserkers known as Khorne's Chosen often shout "Break their backs!" while in the thick of the brutal, bloody battle they so passionately seek out. Followers of the Chaos God Slaanesh, who Khornates see as degenerate scum who kill only for pleasure rather than to test one's self against mighty enemies, are favoured foes to face in battle, as are the servants of Tzeentch, who are seen as Sorcerers unwilling to engage in fair and honourable combat. Khorne's sacred number is eight, reflected in the organization of his armies, and in smaller matters such as the number of syllables in a Khornate daemon's name. Where possible, his warriors will form up into squads of this number. His primary colours are blood red, black and brass. Also note that the Mark of Khorne looks vaguely like a figure of eight or a stylized human skull. Khorne is the Power of Chaos in its aspect of mindless and absolute violence, destroying everything and everyone within its reach, slaying both friend and foe alike. He is the Huntsman of Souls who drives the great armies of Chaos before him. His horn sounds in the depths of the Chaos Wastes, urging his followers ever onwards in search of fresh prey. The gore-maddened followers of Khorne harry beyond the edges of the Known World, delighting in slaughter by the tainted light of a blood-stained moon. Khorne watches the wild destruction wrought in his name and his bellows of rage and delight can be heard echoing across the void between worlds. Khorne is commonly depicted as a muscular humanoid figure hundreds of feet tall, sitting on a vast and weirdly-carved throne of brass, which in turn rests on a mountain of blood-stained bones. He is dressed in plate armour of a strange and alien design, elaborately carved and worked with a repeating skull motif. His head is covered by his huge winged helmet, with only a portion of his bestial, snarling face showing beneath the helm.
