His stand-up, retained in consequent performances in TV and film comedies, was characterized by a reliance on speaking extremely quickly, jumping from one subject to the next, and adopting numerous stereotypical voices in the absence of any apparent comic observations or timing. Williams claimed he inherited his impersonation skills from his mother, whose slurred Quebecoise accent he frequently mimicked as a child, and his quick thinking and physical comedy from his father, who he often accompanied during his stints as an \"adult baby\" on the streets of Hollywood. Garry Marshall, producer of the then-popular sitcom Happy Days and a frequenter of the club, saw a special talent in Robin and invited him to audition for the role of the alien Mork on Happy Days. Legend has it that he got the role in the show because ABC wanted to cash in on his stand-up success, and they thought the best way to explain the fact that he couldn't stop talking in silly voices and standing on his head was to cast him as an alien. Given an unpromising role in a TV show that was clearly on the wane, Williams nevertheless stole the show with his Mork character. That he rose to fame coming off the heels of a cameo says a lot about the immediate impact he made on an audience. He is best known for his roles as Mork in the 1978-1982 TV series Mork & Mindy, Theodore Roosevelt in the Night at the Museum films, Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting, Daniel Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire and Genie in Aladdin. Williams was asked to voice the Genie in the Disney animated film Aladdin, shortly after lyricist Howard Ashman passed away. In gratitude for his success with the Disney-produced Touchstone film Good Morning, Vietnam, Williams agreed to take the role for SAG scale pay ($75,000), on condition that his name or image not be used for marketing, and his (supporting) character not take more than 25% of space on advertising artwork, since Toys was scheduled for release one month after Aladdin's debut. Additionally, Williams believed the character's voice was his property and did not want it to be imitated. The studio went back on the deal on both counts, especially in poster art by having the Genie in 25% of the image, but having other major and supporting characters portrayed considerably smaller. Disney's Hyperion book, Aladdin: The Making Of An Animated Film, listed both of Williams' characters, \"The Peddler\" and \"The Genie\", ahead of main characters but was forced to refer to him only as \"the actor signed to play the Genie\". Williams and Disney had a bitter falling out, resulting in Dan Castellaneta taking over as the voice of Genie in The Return of Jafar and the Aladdin television series. Castellaneta was also hired for Aladdin and the King of Thieves and had completed recording all his lines. When Jeffrey Katzenberg was fired from Disney and replaced by former 20th Century Fox production head Joe Roth (whose last act for Fox was greenlighting Williams' film Mrs. Doubtfire), Roth arranged for a public apology to Williams by Disney. Williams agreed to perform in the Hollywood Pictures film Jack, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and even agreed to voice Genie again for the King of Thieves sequel (for considerably more than scale), replacing all of Castellaneta's dialogue. When Williams re-teamed with Doubtfire director Chris Columbus for Touchstone Pictures' Bicentennial Man in 1999, Disney asked that the budget be cut by approximately $20 million and when the film was released on Christmas Day, it flopped at the box office. Williams blamed Disney's marketing and the loss of content the film had suffered due to the budget cuts. As a result, Williams was again on bad terms with Disney and Castellaneta was once again recruited to replace him as the voice of Genie. The 2004 DVD release for Aladdin has no involvement whatsoever from Williams in the bonus materials, although some of his original recording sessions can be seen. Even though Jim Meskimen had been cast as Genie's new official voice actor in 2008, Williams eventually made peace with The Walt Disney Company again and in 2009, he agreed to be inducted into the Disney Hall of Fame, being honored as a Disney Legend."@en . . (His first film was actually a sketch movie called Can I Do It Till I Need Glasses. His scenes were cut out after the film's first release but restored for rerelease just before Popeye came out.) After Mork and Mindy was cancelled, Robin still struggled on the big screen, through The World According To Garp, Moscow on the Hudson, and the very poorly received Club Paradise. It wasn't until Good Morning Vietnam that people started taking this comic seriously, and he got his first Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He was nominated again for Dead Poets Society two years later, and yet again for The Fisher King two years after that. He didn't win either time. He continued to churn out classic roles, like the Genie in Aladdin and the title role in Mrs. Doubtfire. In 1997 he finally won his rightfully-deserved Oscar for Good Will Hunting. After that, he went through a period of overly-maudlin films such as What Dreams May Come, Patch Adams, and Bicentennial Man. When these films became critical failures (and even gave him a disturbingly sizable Hatedom), he went into another period in 2002, one no one would have expected: his dark period. Death to Smoochy, Insomnia, and One Hour Photo established that he wasn't always so cute and cuddly, and all but Smoochy got rave reviews. Although he returned to the stand-up stage that same year, he continued to make films of all sorts of genres. Dramas like House of D, comedies like RV, and animated family films like Happy Feet proved that this man could somehow still make terrible movies worse and good movies amazing. His hobbies included bike riding, Warhammer 40000, Getting Crap Past the Radar in television shows and family movies, and hanging a lampshade on just about everything in Real Life. Known to wear suspenders and loud Hawaiian shirts, but rarely both at the same time, although it has happened. He was also One of Us. His daughter's name is Zelda (and guess what: they made an ad out of it for the remake of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time 3DS and Skyward Sword). His favorite TV show of all time was Neon Genesis Evangelion. He played Dungeons and Dragons. He also went on record saying that if they ever made a Live Action Adaptation of Pok\u00E9mon, he wanted to play Professor Oak. Had mentioned playing a sniper in the Battlefield series of FPS and was picked to demo Spore. Often dubbed by Koichi Yamadera for Japanese releases of his films. Unfortunately, on August 11, 2014, Williams committed suicide. Apparently, he was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and was very distraught about that. His last known work was with Sarah Michelle Gellar on The Crazy Ones, a CBS show that only lasted half a season and aired in their comedy block, but didn't really gel with their other comedies. Not to be confused with English singer-songwriter Robbie Williams or that chick who writes computer books or the animator Richard Williams."@en .
