Hades is the main antagonist of the Hercules franchise, and one of the secondary antagonists in Mickey's House of Villains. He is the ruler of the Underworld, Pain and Panic's leader and boss, Hercules's uncle and arch-nemesis, and Zeus's younger (older in original Greek mythology) brother. He was voiced by the legendary actor, James Woods. Hades was born on Olympus to Uranus and Gaea, but he was saved when his father decided to eat him. Hades was always the outcast of the gods since he found all of them annoying and because he didn't develop a golden glow to his skin which somehow became blue. Because Satan was nowhere to be found, a new ruler of the Underworld was needed. Hades was tasked with this which he hated, but was still relieved to be away from all the rampant incest on Olympus. Hades is the Greek god of the Underworld and the main antagonist of the 1997 Disney animated feature film Hercules. While the Hades of Greek mythology was not particularly malevolent, he is made into an evil figure in the Disney film, where he attempts to steal the Mount Olympus throne from his brother Zeus. Hades is among the most popular Disney Villains, in addition to being one of the franchise's primary members. Hades, voiced by James Woods, is a fictional character and the main antagonist in the 1997 Disney movie Hercules, based on the Greek god Hades. Unlike the mythological Hades, who is for the most part a relatively passive deity doing a sometimes nasty job, this version is a fast-talking, evil deity, reminiscent of Satan. The character's mannerisms were due to James Woods ending up using a "car-dealer"-style voice while the movie was being made. His hair is blue fire, and whenever he gets angry, it flares and becomes red. His hair-flame has also been shown to flare when he grows particularly excited (when the Fates tell him he will overthrow Zeus), although in this case it remains blue. Hades later reappeared in Hercules: The Animated Series and the Kingdom Hearts series. In all of his appearances he was voiced by James Woods. Woods has said that Hades is one of his favorite characters to portray, and he would gladly go on voicing the character whenever asked. His status as a god and cunning make him one of the more powerful Disney Villains, although he is usually shown as a follower of other villains such as Maleficent in Disney crossovers. He is also known for being one of the few Disney Villains to provide comic relief.
