"Doctor Ren\u00E9 Emile Belloq, more commonly known as Ren\u00E9 Belloq, is the main antagonist of the 1981 Best-Picture nominated action-adventure film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, the first instalment in the Indiana Jones series. Belloq was a French archaeologist who takes credit for Indiana's findings. Like Jones, Belloq scoured the globe for antiquities, but would rather sell them for his own profit instead of giving them to a museum as Indy did. On several occasions, he would simply let Jones do the dirty work and then steal the prize for himself. An example is when Belloq and the Hovitos tribesmen force Indiana to hand over a fertility idol he has braved numerous booby traps to obtain. Belloq is a clear rival to Jones, and even sees them as being more similar than different. Belloq aids the Nazis in finding the Ark of the Covenant, as he intends to use the relic to speak with God. The spirits within the Ark killed the Nazis and caused Belloq's head to explode, allowing Indiana to take the Ark back to the United States government. He was portrayed by Paul Freeman, who also portrayed Ivan Oozein Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie & Reverend Shooter in Hot Fuzz."@en . . . . . . . . .
