Fraser is the daughter of Rose, a college lecturer and nurse, and Alister Fraser, a scriptwriter who also worked in business. She attended Hillhead High School and is a former member of the Scottish Youth Theatre. She then trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Born in Glasgow in 1976, Laura got involved in the theatre in her youth as was part of the Scottish Youth Theatre before studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Laura began acting for film and TV in the mid-90s where she had a few breakout roles on the BBC series Neverwhere. Since then she has gone on to appear in the films Vanilla Sky, A Knight's Tale, and The Boys are Back.
