The B1 Battle droid was a model of battle droid in service to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Designed several years before the Clone Wars, the Battle Droid makes up the main infantry force of the Trade Federation. The droid's head was designed to imitate the shape of a Neimoidian's skull to strike fear in their enemies, while their bodies were modeled after the Geonosians. While earlier models were colour coded to show their role or rank, later models were coloured to blend in with their surroundings with only a numerical marking on the back of a comlink booster pack serving to distinguish one droid from another. Battle Droids were designed for cheap, mass production and are relatively weak compared to other military droids. Their main armament includes an E-5 Droid Blaster and a few thermal grenades. Initial programming of the droids limited them to relatively simple tactics during combat such as swarming their enemies. However, during the Clone Wars, the tactical programming was improved and made more efficient overall, though the droids' reaction times during battle remain quite slow. At first Battle Droids were managed by a central control mainframe, typically located in a starship or a well defended facility. This created a vulnerability, however, that led to severe failures after a mainframe was destroyed, so newer designs gave the droids autonomy in the case of such a catastrophic event. Battle Droids have also been coded to take a role as pilots in battle, which allows them to take control of tanks and barges if their pilot leaves the vehicle. However, they cannot operate any of the vessel's weaponry, making them relatively useless in combat operations. The current manufacturers of B1s are Cerberus Corporation and the Trade Federation (which the droids are most usually assosiated with). An upgraded version of the droid exists, known as a B2 Super Battle Droid. Some noteable B1s include Doug and OOM-7. B-1 battle droids were the battle droids that made up the Federation Droid Army. After the Federation joined the Confederacy of Independent Systems, they became a part of the Confederacy's greater war force. They were designed for cheap mass-production. Following the Naboo crisis, the Galactic Republic enacted strict legislation that prohibited the use of droid armies and the development of military hardware. The Trade Federation, however, relocated its droid foundries and laboratories to remote territories far from the Republic's jurisdiction like Geonosis. The Trade Federation also developed a new generation of B-1s with enhanced intelligence and independence. When the Trade Federation became a member of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, it pledged its droid forces to the Separatist cause. B-1s would be the Confederacy's most common soldiers. Quadrillions were churned out on countless CIS factory worlds. They can be found operating several different vehicles such as a STAP or a AAT. B1 battle droids were products of the Trade Federation. They were fearsome opponents on the battlefield. B1s proved effective on almost every target imaginable, as long as all you could imagine were unarmed populations consisting mostly of seven-year-olds. B1s saw extensive use by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars. B1s were not cluttered with bulky artificial intelligence or electronic brains. Left to their own devices, they would often inadvertently short-circuit themselves by staring directly up into a rainstorm with their power generator casings open. Also, they required constant updates to their operating systems, and their registers got so cluttered with unused files and file remnants, their processing speed fell to almost nothing after a few months of battle. Fortunately, few B1s lived that long. Certain battle strategies caused them to freeze motionless while their eyes glowed blue (known to frustrated users as the Blue Routine of Death). Rifles that were specifically designed to be used by B1s would often refuse to install because of driver errors. Oh, and if you blew up their droid control ship, they'd experience an error called a CTG or crash-to-ground. B1s armed with blaster rifles and complemented by STAP platforms and AAT tanks brought about a short-lived victory for the Trade Federation in the Invasion of Naboo by swarming the capital city. They emerged victorious despite some of the Royal Naboo Security Forces actually having guns and shooting back. Captain Panaka was heard to remark, "I can't believe we're losing to these things." Later on, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi showed up and slaughtered them all in an hour or so. "I would like to take these people to Coruscant.""Huh-huh-huh-huh. You said 'wood.' Huh-huh-huh." ―Qui-Gon Jinn, trying to bluff his way past a B1 battle droid Eventually, after the formation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, the B1 battle droids became foot soldiers in the Separatist Droid Army. The Techno Union designed a number of "power-ups" for the B1s to use, including: * the "Super Mushroom," causing them to upgrade to a B2 super battle droid * the "Fire Flower," causing them to upgrade to the flame battle droid * the "Super Leaf," causing them to upgrade to the raccoon battle droid * the "Frog Suit" * the "Mynock Suit" * "Kuribo's Shoe" B1 battle droids participated in the Battle of Geonosis. Experts say there is a distinct possibility one of their shots may have hit a Jedi at some point. Throughout the rest of the Clone Wars, the droids were typically pitted against clone troopers, against whom their kill ratios were significantly higher. To save the clones from embarrassment, any soldier killed by a B1 battle droid had their death certificate written to say "slipped on a banana peel, fell down a flight of stairs, and died." At one point a B1 battle droid had the head of C-3PO attached to its body. From that point on, all B1s enjoyed Village People music, had excellent fashion sense, and couldn't throw a baseball properly. The B1 battle droid, originally known as the OOM battle droid, was a line of battle droid developed at the behest of the Trade Federation military leadership in the wake of the Stark Hyperspace War. Designed to be easily assembled and cost-effective, the series was capable of enduring circumstances Federation biological soldiers were unable to fight in by sacrificing more advanced artificial intelligence and built-in armament in favor of a master control signal and handheld weapons. The droids were initially utilized in anti-pirate operations and were first deployed en masse during the Invasion of Naboo in 32 BBY, when 900,000–1,200,000 of them were used to seize and hold the planet until being cut from their control signal in the Naboo Space Battle. In the period following the armistice that had concluded the conflict, the Federation droid army continued to grow in size and was merged into the armed forces of the newly formed Confederacy of Independent Systems in 24 BBY. They were again used in large numbers in the Clone Wars of 22–19 BBY, with several billion of them used across the galaxy. With the Confederate leadership's death in 19 BBY on the world of Mustafar, most droid forces were deactivated and melted down by the Galactic Empire. About two to three percent of the armóy avoided destruction and were later used by Separatist holdouts and various criminal forces. [[Image: .jpg]] The B1 battle droids were the first in the B-series of droids, and were used by the Trade Federation during the Blockade of naboo, and later by the CIS in the clone wars. They were secretly manefactured on geonosis. B1 battle droids were battle droids that made up the backbone of the Trade Federation droid army and the Seperatist droid army.
