The term "golem" appears in Jewish folklore, where such anthropomorphic beings appear, fashioned from clay. Golems can be created from many kinds of inanimate matter. Golems have a simplistic programming and no will of their own, making them stolid, loyal servants and guardians. Since they are no organic lifeforms, they need no sleep. Golems, being unliving constructs from inorganic material, are resitant towards many afflictions that affect living organisms and consciousness. Beyond physically removing the inscription on it, a Golem can be dispelled to render it inanimate. If succesful, the magical inscriptions disappear or the scroll crumbles, and the Golem is deactivated. For Golems, a successful dispel has the same effect as a Death spell on a living being - no physical damage to the material component is visible. A dispel that is targeted at a Golem itself has to overcome a spell resistance that depends on the Golem's level. There is only a single location on the Golem's body where a critical hit can be scored, which is the inscription on its forehead that brings it to life. Any parts of the Golem's body which are severed from the inscription (i.e. there is no continuous material connection between it and the inscription) are rendered inert. In other cases, a Golem may be animated by means of a scroll placed in its mouth. Of course, such a golem would be still more resilient to critical hits. Hits on the location of the inscription will not deal additional damage to the material component of the Golem, but successfully removing the inscription will deactivate the Golem entirely until the symbols are restored. A certain minimum damage to the inscription is necessary to remove it, so, while it may be easily removed from a Golem fashioned from clay or wood, it would be more difficult and require a more powerful attack to remove it from a hard material, such as metal or stone."@en . In battle the GOLEM were slow and predictable, from raising their hands slowly to show where they were striking with their energy swords or raising their long ranged launcher to the player. It was the first in the Freedom Fighter’s Alliance () series. While the Golem is similar to the Vityaz, it trades in some of the armor of its Russian counterpart to upgrade one of its light weapon hardpoints to a medium hardpoint. This grants the Golem the highest potential firepower of all medium-sized, non- robots. It also boasts reasonable starting health and speed; the Golem is fourth in the medium-sized category in terms of health after the Boa, Vityaz, and the Fujin. The Golem is arguably one of the most versatile robots in game. With firepower comparable to a Leo, speed of a Vityaz, and slightly stronger armor than a Patton, it can potentially either outrun or outgun most robots. Previously, the Golem featured its heavy weapon hardpoint on an elevated shoulder position while the medium and light weapons were mounted on its left hand side, enabling the robot to effectively shoot from cover and around the corner. Currently, however, the light and heavy weapon hardpoints are located on the left hand side, while the medium hardpoint resides on the right hand side. Having one of each type of hardpoint gives players a wide range of options when fitting out a Golem, but there is a lack of effective long range weapons for the medium hardpoint, which means the robot lends itself best to mid-range and knife-fighting configurations. The Thunder is a popular choice for the heavy hardpoint because it can be effectively combined with any of the close-range medium and light weapons; such weapons include the Orkan and Pinata, or Taran and Magnum. At mid-range, the Molot, Molot Mk2, Pin, and Tulumbas can also be effectively combined with the Trident or Zeus."@en . "GOLEM"@en . "RS 076 front.png"@en . "11"^^ . . . . . "3"^^ . . . Golems in the jewish tradition have no souls; they are like robots. It is on very rare occasion that they can speak. They receive orders either verbally or through magical slips of paper put under their tongues or in some myths in compartments in their heads. In some fiction stories (such as Discworld), Golems gain their freedom by slowly buying themselves. More modern interpretations of golems are shown to be more based on creation, with the life put into a golem the unwilling psirit of an aspect of nature. As such, these modern golems can go wild when the spirit breaks free, causing them to go on a rampage if not controlled or destroyed. While stone and clay golems are the most common, other kinds of golems are still prsesnt, mainly Flesh Golems. In some legends, golems are helpful, but if the magic words are not erased, they will eventually grow bigger and more violent. In one such story, a young wizard finds a Golem and brings it to life by putting an ancient spell in his ear, but when he can't think of anything else for it to do, it becomes violent, until two children start asking it to answer their questions, such as whether the chicken or the egg came first, where babies come from, etc. overwhelmed by their energy, the Golem takes the paper out, and some say the statue is still there."@en . . Stories about golems were so popular in Bulgaria and Macedonia that golem became the usual word for "big" in the Bulgarian and Macedonian languages."@en . "The Golem is a creature from Jewish folklore which was a clay figure animated by a holy man. It was generally unable to speak, lacked a soul, and followed orders like an automaton. The original Hebrew word can mean an unshaped form or figuratively a stupid person. In some versions of the legend, the golem always obeyed its creator but could act as a Literal Genie; the idea of the golem deliberately rebelling was only introduced later. Note that even in the early versions, the Golem usually had to be destroyed for causing destruction or taking meaning from people's lives by making work too easy. The most famous golem story is that of Rabbi Loew, said to have created the Prague golem in the 16th century to protect the Jewish community. In German-speaking countries, the bestselling novel The Golem (1915) by Gustav Meyrink brought it back to public consciousness and led to a series of silent films; the third film, a prequel from 1920 which shows the origin of the golem (who has the worst case of helmet hair in existence), survives today. The legend of a superhuman protector has been seen by some as a possible inspiration for Superman. In some versions the golem was animated by writing the Hebrew word for "truth" (אֱמֶת ʼĕméth) on its forehead, and made inert again by erasing the first letter, converting it into the word for "dead" (מֵת mēth). However, other versions included using a "Shem", literally meaning a name and referring to one of the secret names of God. This could be put on its forehead or in the mouth. The entry of the golem into popular culture as a fantasy monster is probably Dungeons and Dragons, which called the classic version a "clay golem", and included other types such as Stone, Iron, or the Frankenstein's Monster-like "Flesh Golem". Other fantasy worlds have expanded into substances such as Lead, Wood, Lava, Blood, Mithril, and even more unlikely substances, like Glass, Paper, Wax, Junk and Maggots. And don't even get me STARTED on the ones made of dirty laundry. More loosely the term can be applied to any robot that is explicitly run on magic rather than technology. Talos, a mythical Greek giant made out of forged bronze is a good example. See Living Statue, Frankenstein's Monster, Snowlems and Artificial Human. Usually a Perpetual Motion Monster. Not to be confused with User:Golem The Troper. Or the other Golem. Or Gollum. Or even the game of the same name. See also Improvised Golems, for when you don't have time to make a proper golem. Also, since they require spirit energy to maintain the Demonic energy that powers them, they need to copulate with human men periodically in order to continue functioning. After falling in love with a man, Golems will erase their own runes and overwrite them with the name of the man they’ve fallen in love with. This emotion is different from orders that come from runes. "Golems are self-moving magical constructs. They are not truly intelligent, but they can respond well to different events within their remit. Thus, a warrior Golem is good in battle but cannot comprehend social interactions at all, while a servitor Golem would be an excellent servant but could not learn a new culture and might not even know to run away in battle.[1a] The Golems that survive in ruins tend to be military and were usually designed to guard part of the complex. Non-military Golems are only found in undisturbed ruins; otherwise, previous explorers would have destroyed or stolen them. Military Golems in an explored complex probably destroyed the previous explorers. Golems disturb most inhabitants of the Old World, who tend to see them as creatures of Chaos. This is not entirely false, as they are powered by magic, but they are designed to work for others and can, therefore, be controlled.[1a] Golems with non-military functions might also be threatening if they are hard to stop and the context has changed. For example, a Golem designed to keep a road clear might set about dismantling a village that has been built across its road. As Golems were designed to be controlled, each has a control method.[1a]"@en . . . "thumb|left|354pxDie Golems sind künstlich erschaffene Wesen die meist zu Kampfzwecken konstruiert werden. In some stories, the rabbi needs to write a series of Hebrew characters on a piece of parchment which he places in the golem's mouth. In other versions of the legend, the golem is activated by having the Hebrew word emet, meaning truth, written on its forehead. To deactivate the golem, one character is erased, leaving the word met, Hebrew for death, left on its forehead. Much like traditional zombies in Haitian folklore, golems are usually depicted as carrying out all commands that their masters give them without question. The commands may need to be written on parchment and placed in the golem's mouth or may simply be spoken. Instructions given to a golem usually have to be very clear and specific and a golem will usually carry on performing the same task until it is ordered to stop. For example, if a golem is given the command, "Fetch water from the river and pour it on the kitchen floor", if it is not told to stop, it will pour bucket after bucket on the floor, quickly flooding the house and eventually causing the river to run dry. A golem may misunderstand its commands and do things that its creator did not intend it to do, often with disastrous consequences. The most famous golem legend is that of the Golem of Prague. The legend states that in the 16th century, the Holy Roman Emperor ordered that all Jews be expelled from Prague or killed. Rabbi Juddah Loew ben Bezalel created a golem to defend his people. The golem was so successful at striking fear into the hearts of the imperial troops that the Emperor pleaded with Rabbi Loew to deactivate it. The rabbi agreed, on condition that the Emperor promised to stop persecuting the Jews. The deactivated golem was kept in storage, the Emperor knowing that it would be brought back to life if he broke his promise. Some versions of the legend say that the Golem of Prague became uncontrollable, indiscriminately killing Jews and non-Jews alike. It is sometimes said to have turned violent after a woman rejected its advances. Stories of golems may have inspired Mary Shelley's 1818 novel about the creation of an artificial man, Frankenstein. It has been suggested that the word "golem" is the origin of the name of the character Gollum from J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, although the character bears little resemblance to the golem of folklore."@en . "Graveler"@nl . "8"^^ . . . "1"^^ . Higher level golems possess extremely dense bodies and can level mountains with a single strike. However, they tend to be peaceful in nature, unlike most demons of the Netherworld. Beware their murderous temper, though. Monster Weapon: The Golem's natural attack is a huge slam attack, This attack deals 3d6 damage. Ability Boost: Whenever a Dark Knight would normally gain a bonus to their Charisma score, the Golem instead gains a bonus to Strength. This stacks with the bonus to strength the Dark Knight would usually gain. This replaces the Ability boost of the Dark Knight. Construct (Monster, Demon) •+4 Strength, +2 Wisdom, -4 Dexterity, no constitution • Large sized (+30 hp) -1 to armor class as well as attack rolls. +1 to CMB and CMD, -4 on Stealth Checks. •Speed: 20 feet • Darkvision out to 60 feet • +2 to Intimidate checks and climb. +4 to bluff when pretending to be a lump of... I dunno something. • Automatic Languages: English and Japanese Bonus Languages: Any This replaces the normal Race. For every 50 damage you receive, increase your strength by +2 (Max +20). Repairs: The Golem can be repaired using a Craft check that has to do with wood, stone, or metal. The craft check heals a number of hit points equal to the craft check and takes 1 hour for every 5 hit points recovered. RAGE: The Golem gains the Rage ability of a Barbarian. The golem does not possess a constitution score, but still gains the bonus to hit points and fortitude saving throws that the bonus would grant him. This is gained at 5th level and replaces the challenge ability. Rage Powers At 10th level, 15th level, and 20th level, the Golem gains rage powers, using his Golem level as his barbarian level to determine the strength of the powers he can select. Energy Resistance: The Golem gains resistance to Cold instead of fire at the levels indicated, gaining immunity at the end. This replaces the Dark Knight's normal resistance. A Golem whom has reached 20th level is becomes a juggernaut of destructive power. Once per day as a standard action the Golem can become a Gogmagogg. Your size increases by one category, your height doubles, and your weight increases by a factor of eight. Your features shift into those of a cold and alien being of hellish invincibility. You gain a +8 size bonus to Strength, a +3 natural armor bonus, darkvision 60 ft., and your damage reduction increases by 10. These modifiers replace the normal modifiers for increasing your size. The size modifier for AC, attacks, CMB, and CMD changes as appropriate for your new size category. Your natural weapons and any weapons you wield are considered your alignment for the purpose of overcoming damage resistance. This spell doesn't change your base speed. Determine space and reach as appropriate for your new size. If insufficient room is available for the desired growth, you attain the maximum possible size and may make a Strength check (using your increased Strength) to burst any enclosures in the process (see Breaking and Entering). If you fail, you are constrained without harm by the materials enclosing you-the spell cannot crush you by increasing your size. All equipment you wear or carry is similarly enlarged by this spell. Melee weapons deal more damage. Other magical properties are not affected by this spell. During this technique you can take a full round action to make a single attack on an opponent, if the attack hits you deal critical damage (x3 on an actual critical hit) and the creature must make a fortitude saving throw DC: 10+1/2 Golem level + Strength modifier or be stunned and thrown a number of feet equal to 10 x your level. Dois de seus aprendizes representariam o fogo e a água, ele o ar e o corpo do golem, a terra. Assim, os três moldaram seu corpo com argila e conjurando as mágicas dos rituais que lhe foram revelados em seu sonho, animaram o golem. Depois que o autômato completou sua missão, retornou a sinagoga, voltou a ser matéria inanimada e até agora está lá, escondido."@pt . "180"^^ . . "700"^^ . . . . For example, a pile containing many scrolls may become a paper golem, and a pile of rocks may become a clay golem. In addition, polypiling many bone objects (such as unicorn horns) can produce a skeleton. Stone golems can be created by stoning any of the other golems (e.g. with a cockatrice corpse). Stone golems themselves are stoning resistant, since it would be rather odd if stoning could kill them. Casting stone to flesh at a stone golem will turn it into a flesh golem. "The word “golem” refers to any vaguely humanoid-shaped construct built by another creature. Golems can be found in stone, metal, straw, iron and even flesh types. In some cases, a bound elemental or eldritch magic animates the golem; other golems are purely mechanical constructs. All golems share a number of traits. As mindless, soulless constructs, they cannot feel, nor do they require food, air, or sleep. They follow orders literally and unrelentingly. Adventurers cannot reason with golems. They cannot bargain with golems. A golem is a tool, a weapon, with a specific purpose. It fulfills that purpose or dies trying. Golems are able to withstand even the harshest environments. This trait combined with their loyalty makes them excellent guardians for vaults and underground lairs. The harvest golem is one type; other types of golem undoubtedly exist. (MG 85) Golems typically guard mystical dwellings. Recent reports tell of golems roaming the countryside as if independent of any masters. Some sages suspect a hybrid form of arcane magic is causing this phenomenon. (WRPG 240) Golems were featured in Warcraft III, usually as creeps. Golems also appear in Blizzard's Diablo games, in the form of Clay, Blood, Iron and Fire Golems, summoned by Necromancers. During the War of the Ancients, Alexstrasza made a Dragon Golem of herself to fly Krasus back to the battlefront. After the magic had worn out it collapsed. (Sund 217)"@en . "47"^^ . . . . "1"^^ .
