The 1989 The Winston was a Winston Cup (now Nextel Cup) All-Star event held at Lowe's Motor Speedway on May 21, 1989. In the infamous Tide Slide, Rusty Wallace spun out Darrell Waltrip and then cruised to his only All-Star victory. "I hope he chokes on that $200, 000 dollars," quoted a furious Waltrip. It turned out to be a watershed in Waltrip's career, as Waltrip went from nemesis to sympathetic and popular driver in most fans' minds.
