  • Flicky is a fictional female bluebird who debuted as the main character in the arcade game Flicky, and has since become a part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series as a species commonly used for "organic batteries" in the evil Doctor Eggman's robots, also known as badniks. Flickies seem to be large abundance in Sonic's home planet, as they appear to live on South Island, Little Planet, Westside Island and Angel Island. They also play integral parts in Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic Adventure.
  • Flickies are a kind of colorful bird that live in various regions across the planet. Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik constantly uses them as batteries for his various Badniks. They are freed from inside the robots they are imprisoned in when the robots are destroyed. Dr. Eggman also collects them in Prison Eggs in order to use them later as batteries for his Badniks.
  • Flicky's original designer was Yoji Ishii, a member of Sonic Team until August 1999. Yoji Ishii designed the original game with Yoshiki Kawasaki, who stated Flicky being his favorite character. As the Flicky later gets introduced to the Sonic series in the original Sonic the Hedgehog in 1991 as minor character, her appearance was altered by Naoto Ōshima to fit to the cast of animal friends. She was named Flicky in both the Japanese and Western backstories (as revealed in the Japanese game manual and Western documents such as the Sonic Bible), the only one of the animal friends to have the same name in both versions. In the second draft of Sonic Bible, Flicky the Bluebird is known for coming from a large family like other animal friends.
  • Flicky has since been re-released as part of the Sonic Mega Collection for the Nintendo GameCube, Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 where it was an unlockable extra game, and in Sega Genesis Collection (Sega Mega Drive Collection outside of North America) for the PlayStation 2 and PSP. It has also been released for mobile phones. Flicky next appears in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 (Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection outside of North America).
  • A game made by Sega and released in 1984 for arcades and Sega's SG-1000 console, and subsequently ported to several computers and the Sega Genesis. It predates Sonic by seven years but was designed by a future member of Sonic Team, namely Youji Ishii. It also inspired the Sonic game Sonic 3D: Flickies' Island (also known as Sonic 3D Blast). The player's objective in each round is to run around as Flicky, collecting all of the Chirps in the stage, and then to run to the exit. The enemies Tiger and Iggy will try to scare away the Chirps and hurt Flicky.
  • Before this, Flickies could also be found living on Mobius, although these characters were simply other members of the Emerald Hill folk and could talk freely to Sonic and friends. The various designs could often be seen being released from Badniks. Flickies' Island Flickies are said to talk in the unintelligible language of Tweet. These days, Flickies are occasionally used as delivery birds. The Ultimax-Eye used them to help spread news about The Ultimax's exploits.
