Piri ist zu diesem Zeitpunkt erst 14 Jahre alt und dennoch schon an dem Anschlag beteiligt. Da für den Anschlag die Sternenflottenoffiziere Thomas Paris und Harry Kim verurteilt werden sucht die USS Voyager nach den wahren Tätern, um ihre Besatzungsmitglieder zu entlasten, und findet schließlich Vels Raumschiff. Vel weigert sich, mit der Voyager zu kooperieren und behauptet, mit der Sache nichts zu tun zu haben, aber Piri verrät durch eine unbedarfte Bemerkung ihre Beteiligung am Anschlag und die Sensoren der Voyager spüren Spuren von Trilithium an Bord auf. Captain Janeway lässt deswegen beide gegen ihren Willen an Bord beamen und stellt sie unter Arrest. Außerdem ordnet sie für beide ein Bad an. Vel und Piri planen von Anfang an, die Gefangenen gewaltsam zu befreien, aber Captain Janeway will den Konflikt friedlich lösen. Deswegen wirft Piri ihr Feigheit vor. Als die akritirianische Regierung Paris und Kim auch nach Präsentation der wahren Täter nicht frei lässt ändert Captain Janeway ihre Meinung. Sie lässt sich von Vel die Position des Hochsicherheitsgefängnisses geben. Vel fordert für diese Informationen, dass die Voyager auch weitere Gefangene, Mitglieder von Open Sky, befreit, aber Janeway weigert sich. Als sie ihm droht, ihn und seine Schwester Piri doch noch an die Regierung zu übergeben, lenkt er ein, um seine Schwester zu schützen. Piri was rescued from that same detention center by Vel, who was also an Open Sky member, after he led Voyager to the prison where she was also being detained.
