Il meccanismo di funzionamento delle invocazioni dell'ottavo capitolo è totalmente nuovo rispetto agli altri capitoli della saga di Final Fantasy: ideato e progettato da Hiroyuki Ito, esso prevede che ogni G.F. possa essere messo in Junction con un personaggio, in modo che possa accrescere le sue statistiche e dargli supporto in battaglia tramite l'invocazione. Bei G.F.s handelt es sich um autonome Energiekörper, denen meist bestimmte Elemente, wie etwa Blitz, Feuer oder Wasser, zugesprochen werden und die im Kampf herbeigerufen werden können, um die Truppe zu unterstützen.
