The comic is one of the few Aliens, Predator and Aliens vs. Predator comic books to serve as a direct sequel to an earlier story. Specifically, it features the return of Herk Mondo, the Xenomorph-slaying mercenary featured previously in an issue of Aliens: Colonial Marines. In the Aliens comics line, Aliens: Mondo Pest was preceded by Aliens: Music of the Spears, published concurrently with Aliens: Colonial Marines, Aliens: Stronghold and Aliens: Earth Angel; the unreleased comic Aliens: Matrix was also due to be published concurrently. Mondo Pest was followed by Aliens: Frenzy.
