Sorgo Frud was a male Ousan guerilla leader in the Ousan-Peoly War who became an officer of the Royal Army of the Golden Empire. Nearly a man when the Peoly first attacked his homeworld, Frud was unable to join the army to repel the invaders. However, once the full barbarism and technological capacilities of the aliens became known, he joined the underground resistance. Beginning as an ammunition carrier, he eventually became involved with the operations of the resistance, setting traps for the Peoly and ambushing patrols. He was scarred in a hand-to-hand fight with a Peol soldier who clawed him with his forearm "fingers", but managed to avoid being bitten and cut his attacker's throat. Frud married during the war, but his wife was killed by the Peoly.

Frud married during the war, but his wife was killed by the Peoly. When the Golden Empire arrived, annexed both planets, and ended the war, Frud initially considered a return to civilian life. He remarried a comrade from the resistance, but found civilian life too strange after nearly two decades of guerilla war. At his wife's encouragement, he joined the Royal Army, quickly working his way up the ranks as a tactical advisor. By the time of the Great Liberation, he held the rank of colonel. Frud was among those who opposed Tiro Maathkes's plan to bait the Tetrarchy of Mezlagob farther into the Romasi sector, and was also skeptical of the proposed invasion of Tizgo V. Nevertheless, he contributed his knowledge of ground combat against superior forces to the plan for the assault. When the war ended, Frud was among those who attended the dedication of Keltrayu's Tomb.
