| - Agent Phil Coulson is a character in the saga of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He was a former Director and now field commander of the second incarnation of S.H.I.E.L.D., first appearing in the 2008 Marvel film Iron Man and appearing in Iron Man 2 and Thor. He is featured prominently in the 2012 Marvel action film The Avengers, and also takes on a main role in the 2013 television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.
- Agent Phil Coulson is a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and later appeared in the Marvel Universe. Agent Phil Coulson is played by Clark Gregg. He served as Nick Fury's second in command for some of the Division's most important missions. One of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most decorated operatives, Coulson was put in charge of surveillance and served as the primary operative in the Avengers. As of the finale of Season One, Fury at least considers Coulson the Director of the new version of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is now needed.

- Phillip J. "Phil" Coulson is a Former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. Prior to his appointment, he served as one of the organization's best operatives. He acted as former Director Nick Fury's right-hand man for many important missions. He was put in charge of surveillance and served as the primary operative in Fury's Avengers Initiative. Agent Coulson also ran ground interference and tactical operations in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico as part of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s investigation surrounding the incident with Thor and the Destroyer. Coulson was also the primary S.H.I.E.L.D. operative in the investigation into Stark Industries: Sector 16 and the incident on the Howard Stark Memorial Freeway.
- Agent Coulson was introduced in the film Iron Man, in which he attempted to debrief Tony Stark on his captivity in Afghanistan. Coulson is one of several agents who accompany Pepper Potts in an attempt to arrest Obadiah Stane once his criminal activities are revealed. Coulson reappeared in Iron Man 2, where he is assigned to supervise Stark for a time before being reassigned to investigate a crisis in New Mexico. In both the film's post-credits scene and Thor, Coulson's assignment is revealed to revolve around the discovery of Thor's hammer in the New Mexico desert. Coulson interrogates Thor after the depowered Asgardian attacks the S.H.I.E.L.D. facility that was erected around the hammer, believing him to be a mercenary. - Described as the go-to agent of Nick Fury, Phil Coulson was described as the face of SHIELD, the organization dedicated to protecting Earth from danger both within and without. Appearing in four of the Marvel Cinema movies and a few film shorts, he portrays the image of a reliable and resourceful man who makes the best out of the situation he's given; he always gets the job done, no matter what. In one of the film shorts, he uses a bag of flour to disable a criminal who was holding a gun up at him, and in the Avengers movie he suggests to Nick Fury to use his death as a catalyst to bring the team together.
