  • In the original series, The Rani appears in two Doctor Who classic series serials, The Mark of the Rani (1985) and Time and the Rani (1987), portrayed both times by Kate O'Mara.
  • The Rani, also known as Ushas, is a Time Lady, first introduced in The Mark of the Rani. Played by Kate O'Mara, she is the third 'major' renegade to be introduced to the series, the other two being the Doctor and the Master.
  • Since 2005, the Rani has been every single female character on the show, and until proven false, every character on the show. In fact it would be easier to list the characters that aren't the Rani, which are as follows: * The Rani, since it is obvious to even the most plebian fan that the Rani can't be herself.
  • The Rani was a renegade Time Lady who was once a friend of both the Doctor and the Master in the Doctor Who franchise. However, when she became a renegade and broke away from Time Lord society, she became a rivial of the Master, who also turned renegade, and a great enemy of the Doctor.
  • The Rani was the same age as the Doctor. (TV: Time and the Rani) As a Time Tot, the Rani played hide and seek with the First Doctor, with the Ninth Doctor claiming that his skill at finding her "drove her nuts". (COMIC: Weapons of Past Destruction)
  • She views alien civilizations as nothing but potential subjects for her scientific experiments, and has no qualms about slavery, subjugation and even mass murder. The Rani was an evil (or, arguably, simply amoral) scientific genius whose villainy came not from the usual variety of lust for power and suchlike, but from a mindset that treated everything (including morality) as secondary to her research. She was known to enslave entire worlds in order to have a ready supply of experimental subjects and a place to carry out her experiments uninterrupted. Her major interest was in altering the biochemistry of other species.
