Columnar cells (or columnar epithelia) were epithelial cells whose heights were at least four times their width. In 2369, Doctor Julian Bashir noted while performing an autopsy on Hon-Tihl that the membrane permeability in his columnar cells was off, suggesting that a problem with them may have led to his death.
