Several were used by the Irish Office of Public Works on river drainage schemes in the 1970's, these machines were fitted with extended dipper arms and Dorman air-cooled Diesel engines. They were sometimes fitted with a ripper tooth or a hydraulic rock breaker in an attempt to remove rock from riverbeds. The Mustang proved to be too light for this role and suffered from boom and frame cracking.
