- Samuel Colt (July 19, 1814 – January 10, 1862) was an American inventor and industrialist from Hartford, Connecticut. He founded Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company (today, Colt's Manufacturing Company), and made the mass-production of the revolver commercially viable for the first time. Colt died in 1862 as one of the wealthiest men in America. In 1867, his widow, Elizabeth Jarvis Colt, commissioned the building of Hartford's Church of the Good Shepherd, which is on the National Register of Historic Places.

He returned, patented his idea for the revolver, and promoted it in France. He would then later create and manufacture his first gun, the Patterson, which featured revolving, breach loading, and a folding trigger. The Patterson was the first practical revolver. He would later use the ideas of the Patterson to create the Colt Peacemaker - a gun which was quite popular in the wild west.

- Samuel Colt (July 19, 1814 – January 10, 1862) was an American inventor and industrialist from Hartford, Connecticut. He founded Colt's Patent Fire-Arms Manufacturing Company (today, Colt's Manufacturing Company), and made the mass-production of the revolver commercially viable for the first time. Colt's first two business ventures — producing firearms in Paterson, New Jersey, and making underwater mines — ended in disappointment. But his business expanded rapidly after 1847, when the Texas Rangers ordered 1,000 revolvers during the American war with Mexico. During the American Civil War, his factory in Hartford supplied sidearms to both the North and the South. Later, his firearms were prominent during the settling of the western frontier. A second plant in London closed after four years because of poor sales to the British military. Colt died in 1862 as one of the wealthiest men in America. In 1867, his widow, Elizabeth Jarvis Colt, commissioned the building of Hartford's Church of the Good Shepherd, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Colt's manufacturing methods were at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution. His use of interchangeable parts helped him become one of the first to exploit the assembly line. Moreover, his innovative use of art, celebrity endorsements and corporate gifts to promote his wares made him a pioneer in the fields of advertising, product placement and mass marketing, although he was criticized during and after his life for promoting his arms through bribes, threats and monopoly. In 2006, Colt was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
